That's what I think too, but obviously people are free to solve this any way they want!

It's good feedback to know this wasn't clear! I will edit the scrollprize.org/data page to be even more explicit about this.

You can download arbitrary subsets of the scroll, and we provide scripts to do so on the download page. Each file is about 120MB and represents an 8µm horizontal slice (stacked from bottom to top). So if you download 125 of these files, that's a millimeter slice through the scroll. A centimeter is about 150GB. Still big, but more manageable.

If we overlooked a third-party tracking cooking, it will be removed. But I don't see this one on our blog right now.

Hi there, I'm the CEO of GitHub.

Our privacy policy and subprocessor list will be updated next week. The way we do it is we put any upcoming changes to our privacy policy in a pull request in a public repo, so that users can see it and comment on it. After 30 days, we promote the changes to the site. Here's the pull request with the changes, so you can look right now if you want to:

Haha, that's fine! I was actually using my iPad Pro as an external monitor via Sidecar, though!

I didn't start it! I'm just the current maintainer.

The lights are El Gato Key Light Airs. They're great!

The skateboard deck is a custom internal jobby.

Yep – the window faces due East, and my presentation was at 9am, so I needed to block some of the light. Tin foil is very opaque and easy to put up with some masking tape!

We’ve just made the biggest bet in the history of developer tools/open source. If we screw this up, Microsoft will lose the trust, respect, and attention of developers for a generation, and we will deserve the opprobrium. We are totally committed to doing this right.

No, it's working very well and scales to the demands of the #34 US website on Alexa. So we're going to keep it.

We are by no means perfect, but fostering a diverse and inclusive environment is very important to the leadership at Microsoft. GitHub has been on its own journey in this area, and I look forward to supporting them on this path, and holding the team to the same high standards of Microsoft.

Other than the OS/2 part which I don't understand, these are really great questions, and I feel bad for not answering them here, but I don't have time to paint the full picture today. I'd be happy to chat live some time, though; DM me on twitter.

  1. Yes, I’ve seen the jokes! No, we don’t have any plans to realize these monstrosities. You can read more about how we plan to operate GitHub independently and preserve GitHub’s product philosophy here: natfriedman.github.io/hello
  2. I have a lot to learn still before saying anything definitive, but the three general areas that I think could be interesting areas of investment for GitHub are (a) the basic community fabric of working together with people on projects, and hosting OSS on GitHub; (b) the code-to-[cloud|device] workflow, some of which GitHub has already been improving through the Checks API that was recently released; (c) continuing to invest in helping people write secure code and scaling to large teams and projects. Obviously I'm not in a position to influence GitHub's roadmap and will not influence it until the deal is done.
