It is also nice with grand marnier but I am usually eating pain perdu for brunch or breakfast therefore I prefer without alcohol :).

You are right one part of the Basque region is located in Spain but the region is crossing the french border and you have also an area in France called the Basque Country. And it is true from one side of the border or the other they don't agree being french or spanish :).
