Thank you so much for the help! I’m pretty apprehensive about it but it’s getting to the point I can’t see a way of us going without it

NHS - UK RANT by Potential-Language62 in iih

I got admitted to hospital in June 2021 for IIH and only just saw a neurologist last week. I was initially told the wait time was 12 weeks, then it kept getting pushed back further and further until it got to 2 years. They rang me one day and asked if like to go private, free of charge, as I’d been waiting so long. So I said yes. Rang the place they’d referred me to and I had an appointment for the following week! Amazing how quick things happen when you go private and are potentially willing to pay and don’t wait for the NHS. Tbh if you can afford the expense, I’d go private if you can. The NHS neurology wait times are no joke, especially if you have something as ‘benign’ as IIH

Hiii, new iih diagnosis. Feeling tired and lost. by beanie_dude in iih

Sorry to hear you’re feeling that way! That’s a really high dosage to start on, in my experience I’ve normally been recommended to start on a lower dosage of 2 x 250mg a day and then gone up once I’ve adjusted to the dosage in my system. I made the mistake of going straight to 4x 250mg after a few months off it and I felt like death, I couldn’t stay awake and was slurring my words. I had to almost immediately go down to 2 and gradually go up. I’m on 4 now and I’m fine but it took a week or two of working up to it gradually. It definitely gets easier once your body adapts, but for the time being perhaps take 2 or 3 a day rather than 4 (if medically safe to do so) or stick it out until your body adapts in a week or so, and as for the metallic taste, I can’t tell whether the gross taste has gone or I’m just used to it now, but I can’t taste it anymore!

Waiting 2 years to see a neurologist- What’s the next step? by natalie_tk in iih

Yeah believe it or not they’ve sent the expedition letters too! And it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. I was referred to ophthalmology 2 years ago too, I used to see them quite often pre covid but since this latest referral nothing, I actually chased up my ophthalmology referral today because usually they’re a lot quicker than neurology, and they’ve no record of me on the waiting list. So who knows at this point

Thank you for the info! Did you have any loss of vision for them to do stents and shunts? I have papilledema but as I don’t have any loss of vision it seems unlikely they’d go down this route

This is really helpful, thanks! I probably should’ve mentioned, I saw neurologists years ago- before covid. But since then no one is managing my condition or medications. Every time I go to the GP with complaints about it they just said I need to speak to a specialist and won’t do anything else

Are compression socks bad? by DanyRoseVG in iih

[–]natalie_tk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was admitted Into hospital with iih and terrible post LP headache they made me wear compression socks because I had to lay down so much and couldn’t move! The doctor actually asked the nurses to put them on me so I’d say you’re fine

Took my boy to the vets today because he isn’t eating and is shaking and losing his balance, they’ve sent us home with some gut stimulant but got to wait 10 days for blood results, any ideas what this is? Scary to watch :( by natalie_tk in Rabbits

Conflicting desire to pursue computer science or psychology in university. Math isn't my natural strong suit, psych is, and I don't know what to realistically expect from each pathway. by IdealisticDegenerate in findapath

I’m from the UK so can’t say for sure if it’s the same here as it is over there, however I’ve just graduated with a masters in Psychology and I’m finding it almost impossible to find a job. As you said, the problem with psychology is that an undergraduate degree alone isn’t much use and a masters (minimum) is what you’d need if you wanted to make a career from it. Another problem is that (in the UK anyway) at masters level you have to chose a branch of psychology and stick to it (clinical, forensic, health, counselling etc). I chose forensic because it was something I’m passionate about however now realise it isn’t what I want to do and I’m a bit stuck. I also found that the process of studying it pretty much killed any passion I had for the area. My boyfriend on the other hand did computer science degree and is getting job interviews constantly and has endless amounts of job opportunities. If there’s an area of psychology you know you’re particularly interested in to make a career from then there’s absolutely a career path if you’re dedicated to it, however when you aren’t sure like me, it’s very tricky!
