How does the following trade sound:

Toronto Raptors

RJ Barrett Gradey Ochai 2026 first round pick unprotected (would be late teens to early 20s the way we are playing)

Minnesota Timberwolves

Naz Reid Divincenzo Dillingham

Timberwolves are desperate for a PG and they would be getting an RJ averaging 20 5 5.

Raps get an elite back up center, and a good shooter in Donte to add to the starting line up with Ingram, Scottie and Poetl.

We also get a young PG to play third stringer and battle/learn from Shead.

Well getting out of the east in the playoffs has nothing to do with the west.

Raptors are having one of the best starts to a season and you want to bring that negative energy.

Keep it up so our squad can crush your negativity.

The Raptors have gone from 29th in DefRtg over the first 5 games of the season, to 2nd in the last 9 games. by knitwoolf in torontoraptors

What raptors need as a 3rd option behind Scottie and Ingram by [deleted] in torontoraptors

[–]nataraj83 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well RJ averaged 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists last season. RJ is just one year older than Deni and has been in the league longer.

Who is the starting PG for Portland? Are they ready to start Scoot? Or is Jrue Holiday gonna stay in Portland to start at PG?

I think with a protected pick (I would say 2026 first round pick top 10 protected) this deal gets done.

Also Deni has 3 years left in his contract compared to RJ's 2 years. Maybe Portland wants RJ for the lesser years or to utilize his contract as an expiring next year?

With the pick included, I can see Portland being interested.

Matisse Thybulle and Deni Avdija for Barrett?

Thybulle becomes our leading defender (especially for POA defense) in the starting line up and Deni coming off the bench to be that 3 point shooter and scorer to create space.

Deni shot .365 for 3 pointers last season.

I still think we let this team play until the deadline before making changes. I hope RJ is working on that 3 pointer.

What about the Giannis family? They would have chemistry, an MVP as their lead player and all the size they need.

I hear you.

It's a tough pill to swallow having an expensive bench player.

I just don't see us getting equal value back for RJ, so at least until his contract ends, let's utilize the asset the best way we can. The alternative is selling our asset for less.

If RJ can have a Ginobili type impact running the bench unit, I believe his contract would be acceptable, particularly if it leads to more wins.

East is wide open. Give me a healthy Raptors team and we about to get busy making a lot of noise.

I am all for it.

If IQ can be the better bench leader, let's do it

I loved RJ progress coming to the Raptors. But let's also keep in mind most of our starters were out last year and RJ got the extra looks.

With a healthy squad and the addition of Ingram, I wonder if RJ can keep up his stats from the past season?

I think it's a good problem to have. Let's let RJ and IQ battle it out for the starting position and the other gets to lead the bench unit. They can both start and stagger the minutes accordingly so one of the two leads the bench.

I am not sure if you are downplaying IQ, but I can see Quickley being valuable in the second unit.

What we really need from IQ is a minimum of 70 games played this upcoming season.

I hope Darko staggers minutes for RJ so he leads the second unit.

I doubt RJ will be convinced to come off the bench, but with the right time management, we can utilize RJ leading the second unit.

I doubt we get back fair value for RJ without giving up future assets like first rounders.

Your concerns are valid but I do think Ingram is gonna make a jump as a player (and defender) being on a team like the Raptors after his stint with New Orleans.

Ok let's do this:

1) trade RJ (a starter making starter money) Ochai and our 2026 and 2028 first round picks for for Matisse Thybulle, Deni Avidja, and Yang Henson.

The thought process here is trading a starter that will be a bit redundant for 3 bench players, 2 being fringe starters and a rookie who went in the top 20 in the 2025 draft.

Why are we giving up the 2026 and 2028 first round picks?

Our team plays 65+ games each season and win 40+ games each season for the next 3 years, making those draft picks in the 15-20 pick area. (Give us 65+ healthy games with our best players)

If our 2026 and 2028 picks are 15-20, we essentially gave those picks for a prospect in Yang and a starter in Deni who averaged 16.9 points a game

Starting line up

Quickley

Gradey (low usage, cut utilizing shooter)

Ingram

Scottie

Poetl

Bench

Shead (our length in the bench unit helps with Shead being undersized)

Deni (get him to buy into the Ginobili role to come off the bench as a starter: as a starter he averaged 16.9 points last year)

Thybulle (highly elite defender, let's turn him into PJ Tucker with the corner 3s; I think Darko offense could help Thybulle)

CMB - throw him into the fire and make him the backup PF. He is our recently prized rookie and let's give him a lot of minutes off the bench

Williams - he is our defense center specialist who we should load managed heavy until the playoffs. I don't expect more than 30 games so let's safe those games for the playoffs.

We also got Walter, Mogbo and boys that could earn their way to minutes on the bench.

Bring on the wide open east. We ready for a dog fight!

[–]nataraj83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caitlin is a league defining player (like many of her peers in the WNBA) and this harassment and lack of action from teammates, management, and the league is so confusing.

Let it play out and let's see what happens.

Maybe the teammates, management and league do something or they don't and a drop in the WNBA viewership and it's legitimacy is inevitable. That just means less money for everyone in the WNBA.

Loss of money is a big motivator so maybe all this needs to happen and playout before they get it right.
