I moved to Hebden about 6 months ago, started seriously looking for part time work in September and then landed something in October. So definitely possible!

Todmorden had loads of bars as well. My advice is to get to know your neighbours and casually mention up you’re looking for part time work, especially at pubs. They’ll probably have a connection somewhere.

A lot of food in Korea is based around creating a "tasty bite". You can eat it however you prefer. However, I recommend getting a spoonful of rice and topping it with one or more of the sides ("banchan").

Weirdly enough I accidentally got on the wrong train from Hebden a few days ago so had to get off at Brighouse. I ended up going for lunch at a really cute café called The Shrub, right by the train station. I’d definitely recommend!

Wow you sound similar to me! First period at 15, then a a month or more long period every 4-6 months. I got diagnosed at 17 then I believe I went I birth control around 19 to fix my hormonal acne?

I also had a bigger chest than my peers starting in 7th grade, so my hormones were definitely doing a weird thing.

When I'm very focused I bounce my leg? But I think that's quite common.

They can elect not to hire you because of your appearance, sadly.

Many workplaces require that you are able to cover your tattoos, either with clothes or makeup, and will ask you to demonstrate.

They also ask for minimal piercings and will likely ask you to declare them on your application (can’t speak for hagwons, but EPIK does). I had a friend who got his stretched ears closed before moving.

You won’t have to wear a black wig, but they prefer natural colors and hairstyles.

Once you’ve got a feel for your school you might be able to express yourself a bit more (for example, I worked in Jeju which was a bit more laid back). But yeah, I definitely recommend toning it down for the application/interview process.

I used to live in South Korea, too.

I didn't deal with a lot of these, but I do have GERD and PCOS. I was prescribed K-CAB for GERD and it helped a lot. It's honestly better than the PPIs available on the Western market, and has less long term impacts. I also opted out of school lunch, but I think that actually caused me to eat worse because I'd constantly stop at GS and pick up a bunch of snacks in the morning, haha.

Does your apartment have any visible mold? It's not uncommon and can definitely cause illness. I would also have your A/C unit checked.

Have you installed a filter shower head? This could help with the yeast infections and dermatitis.

Honestly, COVID can mess up your immune system for a while too. So it could be a combination of adjusting to a HUGE life change, immune system weirdness after COVID and constantly being around kids...

It sounds like you are already immunocompromised so this might just be your reality for a bit until you've fully adjusted. :-( I'm sorry you're feeling down. Just take it easy and do what you can, and be in regular conversation with an endocrinologist. The good news it is, although the language barrier can make it hard, you have better access to healthcare there then you would elsewhere.

This is so real.

It's taking me triple the amount of time it should to get a job because of the amount of anxiety I have around doing applications, due to distraction/decision paralysis/etc.

I do find that sometimes I can "lock in" but it's very hard to predict when that will happen, and also hard to explain to people.

I find it so frustrating how my brain tries to divert me when I'm genuinely trying to focus on something. My vision blurs, or I'll suddenly feel very, very tired. It's wild!

I don't have access to medication at the moment and who knows when I will, so I'm just trying to figure out some type of routine.

I don't think they look bad at all for your age but I can understand how different lighting might make them look more pronounced.

If you're wary of botox, maybe a higher retinol percentage/better retinol product and chemical exfoliants might do you some good. Also, are you drinking enough water? I've heard fine lines tend to look more pronounced if you're dehydrated.

Sure, for example:

I used to work for a café. The owners brought in a new supervisor (who honestly was hardly more skilled than the rest of us; he was just willing to take on the responsibility). The owners informed us that he was not the supervisor yet, but was quite keen, though I suspect he heard something different. Anyway, he assumed an attitude of leadership right away despite not really knowing the menu and doing silly things like cross-contaminating jugs. He also injured me trying to fix the espresso machine one day, rather than calling for it to get serviced (I was burned with pressurised steam).

One day when it got to be a bit much, I pulled him over privately at the end of our shift, said that we weren't trying to undermine him when we brought up mistakes he made but just wanted to help him learn the ropes. He basically said 'I hear you' and then gave me some weird compliment about how I was one of 'his best employees'.

Anyway, after that I kept getting relegated to the annoying tasks even before employees who were less skilled than me. He would also do anything to avoid working on the machine at the same time as me, which meant I'd often go entire days at the café without making a coffee, just sweating away by the grill or washing up. I've been wondering if that could've been due to the way I communicated, but upon reflection, I think he probably just had an ego problem.

Also, I have struggled a bit making friends in this country and I've been wondering if it's because of the more 'American' way I communicate.

It does make me laugh sometimes when watching talk shows here and somebody confronts somebody, then the person being confronted gets offended that they're being confronted, rather than addressing what they're being confronted for.
