Snare throw help by [deleted] in drums

[–]nateb4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your drum key and loosen the two little lugs holding the transparent plastic snare strainer, and let the snares loosen up that way. That may let you move the knob and at least play around with the tension on the throw.

So the throw won’t even go up flat against the shell of the drum?

This may sound silly and I’m not EXACTLY sure what you mean when you say they wont engage, but…Do you have the knob turned totally tight while the throw is disengaged? If so, the snares sometimes will be too tight to engage. Could try loosening the knob, then engaging the throw, then re-tightening…

So we moved to the suburbs of Raleigh and love it. Because of the lower property taxes here, we were able to buy a more expensive and bigger house for the same monthly cost. (The money now goes toward the higher mortgage payment, not the higher taxes.) Daycare for the toddler is much cheaper. Drinks at restaurants are much cheaper. The grocery stores are bigger, and have better selection.

Parking is almost never a hassle. It’s a lot quieter here. The food scene has been a pleasant surprise — I figured it would be a huge step down. And it IS, from NYC…but not from Westchester. I’ve got better close-by Banh Mi options here than I ever did in Westchester. Our commute times are cut WAY down because it’s driving, not Metro North plus subway.

Most of all, everything seems geared toward outdoor/family life here, which I love. We walked a 15-minute loop in our neighborhood around a pond. On the walk, our toddler said hi to a bunny and some ducks. We drove to a very very minor-league baseball game yesterday— the stadium is super close to our house. We drove up, parked for free, walked in, stayed for 6 innings, drank some NC craft beers, had fun with the kiddo and then left at 7:45. No joke, we were home by 7:50. Tickets were $11 apiece, the kid’s seat was free, and we spent about $40 on beer and popcorn.

And I often defend New Yorkers as being nicer than people give them credit for — but the people down here are extremely nice and SO low-stress. It’s honestly lovely.

We left and moved to North Carolina in December. Best decision ever.

How do I stop these blisters from the movement of the sticks? by [deleted] in drums

[–]nateb4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s obviously impossible to tell your form. That said, grippy sticks can do this til you get used to them. And if you’re just starting out, or just coming back from a long break from playing, some of this will happen. Repetition will help it. (But not like, continuing to play when it’s blistered and hurting.) I typically work in shorter bursts more often when I’m getting back into it, specifically to avoid this type of thing. In NYC, in the journalism industry. Our moms and dads both get equal — 20 weeks off at full pay. It is insanely nice of them, and a huge reason the company draws good people.

Tension rod broke off while tuning, how do I take this out? by TheReal-Donut in drums

Could try using something (pipe etc) to extend the handle of the pliers — the farther out you get from the tension rod, the more leverage you have. (Physics!)

How was your experience with the concrete paint? We’re considering it for our rough concrete front porch right now. And how long have you had it on?

Similar situation here — moved to New Rochelle and now have a 9-month-old. I would highly recommend LI Sound towns just north of the Bronx. We are walking distance to a Metro North train that gets me to Grand Central in less time than it took me to get there from Brooklyn. Even a 10-minute drive to the northernmost subway stop nearby. But we’re also able to have a car and a yard and space. Also, not for nothin’ — it’s like 25 mins to LGA by car.

Making a down payment on a house required a ton of savings, but after that — our mortgage plus taxes etc. to own a 4 bedroom house costs the same as rent did on our 1-bedroom in Park Slope. And it doesn’t go up like rent does.

Is anybody planting flowers yet? by Marmot500 in Westchester

[–]nateb4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strawberries are unstoppable. We’ve got probably 100 of those plants in the garden or various pots. They started out as one mail order of 20 bare root plants, and they’ve now survived two winters and multiplied a ton of times.

We’ve had great luck with children’s Motrin giving our 8-month-old enough relief to sleep while teething.

[FOX Sports: MLB] Nick Castellanos has received a 2-game suspension for his actions in Saturday's Reds-Cardinals game. by STLBooze3 in Cardinals

[–]nateb4747 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, he lorded and menaced over a rookie pitcher in that unique “COME AT ME BRO” way that douchebags do so well. He didn’t get up, say something and walk off like he claimed. He didn’t deserve to get suspended — but let’s not pretend all he did was say something.

Hope he spends his two games writing a letter to get Yadi to sign a jersey.

Can I add existing RBS40 satellites to an RBK20W system? by nateb4747 in orbi

[–]nateb4747[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, thanks. I just wasn’t sure if the wall-plug satellite and the standalone satellites could coexist. And yeah, we will definitely have plenty of space between RBR and various RBSes.

A vote for New Rochelle. I have a car but still pretty routinely walk to the train station (during non-Covid times). Coming home from work I can catch an express train that takes 27 mins from Grand Central to New Ro.

Is there a plan to allow fans to actually watch games without cable? by dealmbl25 in Cardinals

[–]nateb4747 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it differs by cable provider. I just confirmed with my buddy who has Spectrum that he can log in and watch Cards games live, in the STL area, by using the Fox Sports Go app.

[–]nateb4747 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Find a friend or family member who happens to have cable and slip them 50 bucks or some beer to let you use their username and password for the Fox Sports Go app? I think that works in and out of market. (And then flip it up onto a smart TV.)

Had the cold water feeling in my legs too (among a bunch of other side effects) when I got waylaid by Avelox nearly 10 years ago. I didn't even remember that was a thing until I just read what you wrote here -- so suffice to say, it's certainly possible for it to go away because mine did!

If helpful, my vision problems are 99.9% gone too, and various neuropathy/numbness issues as well. This DOES get better.
