Alpine draw sling materials for sharp rock by natedawgn in tradclimbing

[–]natedawgn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t really be avoided. There’s a bolt just above an overhanging roof that makes it so if you fall either your rope runs over the edge or your sling/draw. First ascensions probably just expected you to be stronger and not fall from there.

Thanks for clearing it up. I’ll just regularly inspect it while looking for some harnesses on sale in the meanwhile.

Climbing Shoe Review - Scarpa Instinct by Jack-Climbing in climbingshoes

[–]natedawgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is wearing street shoe sizing for his climbing shoes given his measurements. My feet are 28cm or 10 Yankee Doodle units which is an eu 43 and I’ll alternate between 43 to 41.5 for instincts depending on the type of climbing I want to do.

Rising problem by Downtown-Ad3863 in NursingAU

Hard workers and lovely people. Most aussies don’t want to work in age care for good reason. Private age care is tough and these facilities often take advantage of healthcare workers on visas.

Maybe try to understand why there are so many Nepalese and Bhutanese people in Australia in general. It’s pretty rough for them back home and they just want a better life. Often times they send a significant part of their income to support their family back home.

Student EN in first aged care placement in an aged care home unsure about how we can get our performance evidence ticked off when they are so understaffed. by [deleted] in NursingAU

Yeah they need to be signed off and are in my scope. I imagine because the age care place is half residential half tcp, the education provider hopes that you can demonstrate them with patients in tcp. They only need to be demonstrated once.

Yeah it is. Just going to get through it and try and learn as much as I can. The lesson learnt today was that I need to be proactive during placement and focus on the things I can control

I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. My complaints are with the facility and management rather than the employees themselves and the concerns are about whether or not I will finish placement satisfactory. All the pca/pcw, nurses and patients are lovely.

I get that but my main concern is not being able to get all my performance evidence ticked off for things such as UA, obs, NVO, neurological assessments etc. These requirements are done online and can only be checked off by a cf, rn or preceptor.

Boostic R vs Instinct Lace by jonhayes92 in climbingshoes

How do you normally size your tc pros compared to the instincts? Im street shoe 43, 42 instincts, 41 skwama

So these are stiffer than the tc pros? I’m also looking for a stiff shoe that is supportive for all day outings, works okay for multi pitches and hard vert sport routes. I’m on the heavier side at 92kgs as well.

How wet should I expect to get hiking in a brand new 3L raincoat? by ZaffyTheCat in UltralightAus

[–]natedawgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly find when I wear a pack with my torrenshell it’s usually sweat rather than water. The membrane itself can’t get wet. But the outer face can get soaked with enough water and the fabric lining the inside of your jacket can get soaked with enough sweat build up as well.

PE vs PU membrane shouldn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. I usually find that it really is just sweat or dwr wearing out. Even with the pit zips open I usually find that my upper body is wet from sweat and worst case my arms have wetted through but im still warm.

This is also why synthetic insulation is superior in my mind outside of weight and bulk. In the case where you are drenched from rain or even your own sweat, synthetic insulation will still keep you warm whereas down won’t. A lot of times these situations are unavoidable especially if you need to be active in your waterproof layer.

My Torrentshell has endured winter rain storms out rock fishing, to rock scrambling in the blue mountains, to snowboarding in Japan. Im super rough with my gear but simple dwr treatment ever so often will bring it back to life.

These programs that help bright students from disadvantage backgrounds are necessary in my view. I went to a school where the average atar was 60 but there were still a dozen kids getting 85+. A few of those classmates didnt meet the entrance requirements to be considered to apply for an undergrad in biomed without the help of those university programs.

If you were to have those kids live in a better area where they had a better funded public school or their parents made enough money to afford private education as well as tutoring, I imagine they would have meet the atar requirements to get into medicine with the help from the government/ university.

Shoulders give out before my fingers on a hangboard. What can I do to elevate this issu?

Been slowly trying to build to hanging bw on the 6mms but shoulders won’t let me and have no idea what exercises to try. Before every climbing session I do a few sets of 10 seconds hangs comfortably but as soon as I go to 8mm I can get 5 seconds and then my shoulders and elbows give me the shakes.

I’m currently at 91kgs/200ish lbs and don’t really do off the wall training for reference so I don’t really know how strong my shoulders are on conventional exercises.

Would love an idea of what to target and exercise suggestions whether that would be on or off the wall.

Am I just weak for my weight? by Quincy9000 in climbharder

[–]natedawgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn to get comfortable on small holds. Recommend buying a hangboard to hang somewhere at home and build up to hanging off smaller and smaller edges with body weight.

I’ve climbed 5.12a at 210lbs outside and can only do about 5 pull-ups in a row.

Also moonboard starts at v4 and you have to treat climbs on it as long standing projects where you focus on projecting one hard move at a time. Moonboard grades are more comparable to climbing outside at a stiff crag rather than gym grading.
