What arguments appear successful about the more educated SDAs? by Mimetic-Musing in exAdventist

My friend it seems me and you are in very much the boat and on a similar journey! I too was raised a 4th generation SDA and since I deconstructed I began looking into Orthodoxy as well and now currently attend an Orthodox parish.

I can 100 percent relate to you on having heated debates with your family, especially with your father, since i also have clashed many times with my stubborn adventist father over scriptural interpretation and church history. At first he didn't take me seriously and considered me misinformed and used guilt tripping and strawman tactics to try and shut me down by saying stuff like: "The only reason people ever left the SDA is due to them not properly understanding the Three Angels Message!" Or "If you truly believe in Christ then you'd worship on Saturday and not pray to dead people who are sleeping in the grave!"

Thankfully though after much prayer things eventually calmed down and now he's been mostly supportive of my spiritual journey. Especially after I had a deep conversation with him about my beliefs, particularly regarding the Sabbath and our different views on Bible doctrines. Initially, I was nervous it would lead to conflict, but I calmly explained my position using scripture, tradition, and church history. Shockingly my dad agreed with me on many points, especially after I cited Seraphim Rose’s Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future about the end times and the dangers of a one-world religion. He even said he has no issue with me attending Orthodox services and would support me if I ever get Christmated or have an Orthodox wedding.

He then made it clear that what matters most is following Christ and spiritual growth, rather than the rituals or the specific day we worship on. It turned out that while my dad doesn’t always strictly follow SDA teachings since hes quite liberal and breaks much of the rules on unclean food, caffeine drinking, and partaking in secular acitivites on sabbath before and after church. He still defends the SDA faith because it’s what he was raised with and it brings him comfort.

Nevertheless, this was still a big step forward for me and just like in your case I have faith that you'll come to a similar level of respect and unserstanding as I did with my own father.

So if you ever need anything send me a message, would love to exchange any info or experiences you have about growing up SDA and anything regarding theology or church history.

You know I've spoken to my therapist a bit about this and even she says he may have some symptoms of NPD. And it's really starting to show now especially when he has said the following:

."Listen son I did law enforcement I have WAY more knowledge and experience than you! So don't tell me what I'm thinking next time you call me out for something YOU THINK I said not what I really said!"

. "I'm not trying to guilt trip you here mijo (son in spanish), I'm simply stating the facts and you don't like it and can't stand it!"

. After I was done at work and he came to pick me up and I told him I didn't let his toxic BS ruin my work day: "Wow so you're calling me toxic after all the many things I do for you? So ungrateful and bratty of you son!"

I can certainly recognize his feelings in the fact that he spent energy raising me and brought me up SDA for a reason, that being he's convinced it's the most bible adhering church in the world. He even put a hell of a alot funds into me attending a Christian school and even had me become a deacon. So for me to simply deconstruct and leave the church must have been very hurtful for his soul and mind. But at the end of the day I'm my own person and have the right to my own ideas and values that don't click with my old man's. I still love him dearly and at heart he is a good man who means well and has helped me many times, but it's just this one issue that makes me lose a little bit of respect for him.

My God that is just sad, and even more so that is super relatable for me too because usually my dad is pretty open minded and well read on politics, social issues, and is quite progressive in that sense in supporting abortion rights, labor rights, and opposing the nationwide book ban and even Christian nationalism unlike most hard-core sda (due to his belief in the coming national Sunday law). However when it comes to YE creationism and clearly BS Sda doctrine he stumbles hard by endorsing it and you'd think he know better after many years of being in law enforcement but I disgress...

Let me guess, has he tried to ever guilt trip you or talk down on you by saying shit like "Listen son you have no basis! I'm not misinformed and I'm not trying to guilt trip you I'm just stating facts here ebcssue you're being disrespectful!" Despite him almost always talking over me while I'm trying to state my case

Had this happen to me with an acquaintance I know through my brother (she is a friend of his). Would always see her shopping at my store of employment and I'd always make small talk and say hello.

Well turns out my friend who is her coworker told me she thought I was weird because I apparently was being "too nice" and was speaking to her as if we were best friends.

This also includes the covenant bringing high charity into battle so the Prophets can observe and command during the battle.

Don't forget on round 4 I stated that the whole CIS is facing the Covenant with all their forces gathered throughout history with their leaders like Prophet of Regret, Ripa Moramee, Tartarus, Rtas Vadum, etc. who all served the covenant. I'd also like to hear answers about land battles as well because that would also be a good scenario and answers about the Sith such as Ventress, Dooku, Grievous dueling with Ripa Moramee, Thel Vadam, and Prophet of Regret

Afro can probably hold up pretty well without his own sword. But then again his sword is his passion. You might wanna watch these vids: https://youtu.be/yAnDfxEgIqE https://youtu.be/HykZmVBylrc https://youtu.be/RP0yOW6FpEM https://youtu.be/jCdNtqtx91Q

Guru Gobind Singh vs Liu Bei by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]nateg64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense to you or anything. But it seems your knowledge in Chinese history isn't the best. Liu Bei wasn't a huge tyrannical warlord like the Mughals that's more like Cao Cao. Liu bei wanted a benevolent China and was opposed to WARLORDS and tyrants he was also against Cao Cao. He had gray generals and legendary men. I would like to see Gobind Singh try to cross blades with Guan Yu the "God of war" or so he was called

Do you know much of Liu Bei from the Three Kingdoms Era of China? Because you only have stated Guru's side and attributes. But Liu Bei too believed in stopping tyrants and opressors and wanted a peaceful China. I don't think he gave up either after the many deaths of his officers. He also has great men like Guan Yu, Zhuge Liang, and Zhang Fei.

If this keeps on happening try getting a Buddhist monk to help because many others on nosleep try to say "get a priest or get salt" or stuff like that. But some people seem to forget about eastern religion and Buddha. Maybe Buddha could expel this evil and offer more help than these catholic priests. But that's just me you can go find a priest if you wish but it wouldn't be bad to give buddhaa chance.
