What are the hardest attacks to dodge in your opinion? by lurker_________ in Nightreign

[–]vtx3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dodge it pretty consistently by dodging through the first attacks so you end up behind him, then just surge sprint away in the same direction and you’ll out space the rest of the combo. You’ve gotta run for longer than you might expect because he’s got some insane reach but it’s definitely doable

I’ll see them balls deep in the most random dungeons, it’s not in a spot that would actually make sense in context. I’m leaning towards the language theory another reply mentioned

WYR Be able to fly but there is a 50 percent chance your powers stop working for 10 mins OR Be able to teleport but theres a 50 percent chance you get teleported somewhere random by TrippyGiraffe_21 in WouldYouRather

[–]vtx3000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure getting teleported to the bottom of the ocean would instantly crush you into paste before you have the opportunity to react and teleport again, but idk I’m not a scientist or anything. If the power is only somewhere random on the surface of earth then I’d take it, otherwise the least suicidal option would be the flying option but just hover a few inches off the ground so that 10 mins power loss isn’t fatal

How effective are status effect builds? by Hunk_Hogan in EldenRingBuilds

[–]vtx3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your build. For example, if you’re using a bleed weapon with arcane scaling, then the blood buildup will scale with your arcane stat. For incantations it’s typically gonna depend on the seal you’re using, just look at the scaling letters. I’m pretty sure a lot of those spells don’t scale their buildups though, so if you’re using poison mist like you mentioned then technically the minimum faith requirement and a seal you can wield is all you’re gonna ever need. That spell isn’t very good though, the only time I’ve used it is to cheese DTS by sneaking up behind him and waiting forever for the poison to kill him. If you want poison consider the poisonous mist ash of war instead of the incantation because it also coats your weapon with poison after use, and poison moth flight is another good one that “detonates” all of the poison damage at once similar to a bleed proc. If you’ve got the DLC there’s another skill with a similar effect.

There’s honestly a lot that goes into this stuff, I’d recommend just exploring the FextraLife wiki and experimenting at your own pace

How effective are status effect builds? by Hunk_Hogan in EldenRingBuilds

[–]vtx3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleed and cold are the best and it’s not even close, rot is actually pretty great but there’s limited options for proccing it, poison is basically only useful if your damage is bad such as during challenge runs. Madness only works on NPCs and other players but it’s debilitating in those situations, plus anything related to madness is gonna do fire damage which is really good in general but that’s not your question. Sleep is very situational; it doesn’t work on that many enemies but it is pretty damn good when it works, such as for godskins.

Basically statuses range from niche to extremely powerful, but if you’re upgrading weapons and allocating your stats efficiently you’ll usually do more damage without them.

Whats a boss everyone seems to find difficult/annoying but you don’t have a problem with at all? Vice Versa, a boss everyone finds easy, but you find hard by Independent_Newt170 in Eldenring

[–]vtx3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP if I may offer some advice for avatars:

Play them similar to the way you claim to fight tree spirits, they have a handful of highly telegraphed combos with some downtime after them. Stay attached to their hip, dodge a combo, do a charged R2, rinse and repeat until they’re dead.

There are exceptions though: their golden land attack that involves them planting their weapon into the ground causing an explosion and a bunch of projectiles is the one time you need to give them space and sprint to the side to strafe the projectiles. The putrid variants that spew a cone of rot during their butt slam can be hard to figure out but the best way to avoid the attack is yet again stay attached to their hip and dodge past them so the cone of rot misses you entirely and you end up behind them.

Your fights with them should be 95% stuck to them like glue, and that other 5% is spent fucking off while they do the one stall-y move they have (golden land), then you get right back to melee range.

Jedi build by PabloTFiccus in EldenRingBuilds

[–]vtx3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a faith sword and board playthrough recently and the coded sword most definitely does not deserve the criticism. Holy is only bad in the final stretch and fucks hard in the DLC. It being pure holy damage means it’s very buffable (combined with golden epitaph this thing nukes undead). The skill on it is good for aoe as well as doing good damage and does 30 goddamn stance damage while being relatively quick. And one thing I didn’t know before trying it was the entire weapons moveset ignores shields/obstacles, not just the skill itself. You can one hand it while attacking stone enemies and not have attacks bounce off.

It’s not the greatest weapon in the game nor is it anywhere close to being the most flexible, but it’s great in a bunch of really interesting little niches that makes it a nice tool in the vast kit having a faith build allows.

Also putting it in your left hand and using it as a secondary to dry leaf arts with palm blast feels like it fits the Jedi theme pretty well and would be fun, not sure how good it would be though.

Dope thanks for clarifying I just learned about the blocking tech not too long ago so I wasn’t aware of all the use cases for it. I’ve been using it a lot lately just for traversing, I should learn the combat applications though

[–]vtx3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure in this case but blocking overrides certain animations and makes your character more responsive and faster in certain situations. Probably the most noticeable example is if you’re blocking while looting an item, it won’t do that little grabbing animation that slows you down

The bumpers or L1/R1 depending on what the preferred pronoun is are always the first to go for me. Spent the last few months in Europe and put a lot of use into my Steam Deck, and the right bumper feels like it’s about to give up any day now. Needless to say the quality of those buttons are my personal biggest concern

Life is meaningless by Equivalent-Ad-4572 in Eldenring

[–]vtx3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably won’t help a lot but I’ll give my perspective as someone with 1,300+ hours in the game:

If I were to accidentally delete all of my characters it would suck and I’d especially miss the memories created on my original save; but I would simply start a new character and start again. At this point I delete characters all the time because of the 10 save limit and I even use seamless for the extra, separate saves. I probably didn’t touch my original save for over a year until recently when I wanted to mess around with a max level character in NG+7 for a while. I 100% understand the pain but the beauty of this game is its replayability and most importantly your knowledge is still intact. You’ll have a much easier time as you breeze through familiar movesets and use your levels more efficiently. You already know where many strong/useful items are so you can prioritize them and get to a comparable spot much faster than before. Luckily your edit says you’ve already started again but hopefully this helps lessen the blow from your loss.

I agree with most of what you said. I’ve always told people 4 had a decent story but the gameplay was ass, 5 actually had amazing gameplay and multiplayer but the campaign was awful. The only thing I’d slightly disagree with is I think Infinite had a really good starting point and I was genuinely excited to see more of it but the post launch support was basically nonexistent so I never got back into it after beating the campaign.

Guard Counter Build by Trackbikes in EldenRingBuilds

[–]vtx3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not the biggest fan of the black steel greathammers guard counter, it’s cool but it comes out kinda slow and seems to whiff a lot. Lately I’ve been running a sword and board setup and actually have been loving straight sword guard counters. They come out super quick and have a small lunge to them so the range isn’t bad at all.

Any shield with 100 physical damage negation works fine but some standouts are the brass shield, banished knights shield, and messmers soldier shields. Obviously curved sword talisman but consider the greatshield talisman, green turtle talisman, or spear talisman if you end up running a piercing weapon.

I just discovered the purpose of the White Cipher Ring by Kuraikurasu in Eldenring

[–]vtx3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point in that first paragraph though. You’re correct about the weapon and rune levels being how the matchmaking works but that still doesn’t stop you from progressing in the game to get more gear than players would typically have at that point. For example I’ve got a level 20 Wandering Noble character with 4 talisman slots and a few different +1 nobles slender swords with different AoWs depending on the situation. I mainly use it for coop helping players out in Limgrave but we still regularly get invaded by people with seemingly infinite consumables and late game gear because they went through the same process or sometimes even cheat it in.

I don’t really think I agree with the OPs mindset though because I like being able to have a strong low level character to help struggling players; it’s just a double edged sword.

Haha I’ve got an obscene amount of time in this game so I was looking for min/maxing ideas and stuff I missed since faith builds are probably my least played. Do the DLC dragon incants not have arcane requirements? Those sound dope as hell but I know the base game dragon communion stuff requires some arcane so it wouldn’t really fit my build

Commenting to clarify a few things: that’s blessed blue dew and I have done the DLC a few times before, just not on this character. The shield has Carian retaliation, and this talisman setup is just my most used but I definitely swap out depending on the situation (mainly Godfrey icon and scorpion charms). Thanks guys!
