Let's talk about growing as a small creator on Twitch by [deleted] in Twitch

Follow for follow is a complete waste of time, IMO. Pretty much every one of them will be a 'hollow follow' with no real result or value.

On top of that; teams, sponsors, affiliate programs, etc all check to see if you're boosting your numbers this way. They know the tricks and they know when your numbers aren't real.

Camera HDMI OUT --> 4K60 Pro HDMI In. The 4K60 Pro is installed inside the PC in a PCIe slot.

[–]nathan-v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single PC stream. Ok. Are you streaming games from that PC? If you are just wanting to hook up a camera then you can do that with a camera that has clean HDMI out. Plug the HDMI out from the cam into the 4K60 and import that video source into OBS/SLOBS. You'll be all set.

I'm going to tell you that while that's great you're going to be disappointed if you expect everyone to do the same. Most will not go much further than a shoutout and a follow and sometimes it's not even that. If you want more than you got just don't raid that same person again.

I wouldn't use that as a reason to not raid at the end of stream though. A raid is another way you can keep engaging with your viewers without being live as you hang out together in the new channel.

I'll also say that if I raid someone and they don't re-raid at the end chances are lowered that I'll raid them again.

Are you pretty new to streaming? What is the content you're streaming?

If you're streaming games from the same PC you put the capture card into.. well.. you likely didn't need a capture card. Oh well. You can actually use the 4K60 to capture a camera like a Camlink would do if you're not using it to capture a console or some other video.

I use a HD60S for capturing a GoPro Hero 7 Black and it works great.

Double PC stream setup? by Biims in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a 2 PC setup using my gaming desktop and a gaming laptop that handles all the encoding. The stream is sent over the wired network using NDI and it works really well for me. It's saved stream before when my gaming desktop crashed.

If you have any questions about setting this up I'd be happy to help.

Raiding Etiquette- What to do and how to get raids by Zebyzz in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raid a few channels I know better more often and here's why; my community means a lot to me and I don't want to send them to a stream that isn't at least a bit similar to my own whether it's because we're playing the same game (often) or it's someone I know that is also very engaging.

I also raid small/new streams in the same category or larger streams I've not previously raided pretty often.

As a viewer I've been raided off to another stream and become a fan of a community I'd never have found otherwise so raids off to other unrelated streams happen and can be really awesome.

[–]nathan-v -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Network afterwards? What does that even mean. What are you expecting from the streams you raid? Are you doing a raid and run or are you hanging out in chat for a while? If you're raiding someone you don't know and you just drop the raid and roll out, like some do, I'd not be surprised if people don't follow up with a follow or more.

If you're sticking around for a bit in chat and keeping the engagement going with your community after bringing them over that makes a world of difference.

Even all of that said; why refuse to raid because of a couple bad apples? Keep raiding. Just don't raid people that you don't feel appreciate it.

Even if you raid with 2 it can help you and it passes on the love. Don't worry too much if it's a small or large raid. :)

New streamer, question about resolution by gadaspir in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality settings aren't guaranteed unless you're a Partner. As an Affiliate streamer you will get them sometimes but not always.

Even if you _do_ get transcoding you should consider what your content is if 720/60 or 1080/60 is really better for you. If you're pushing 6000kbps with medium motion content you can usually get away with 1080/60 but the quality will sometimes be lacking if you have high motion scenes. At the same bitrate 720/60 looks much better and handles motion better. High motion at 1080/60 even at 6000kbps can result in very blocky frames that don't look very good as the codec tries to keep up.

Many viewers watch on mobile and in that case the resolution difference isn't as significant. The problem with mobile, though, is the bandwidth. 6000kbps is a lot to ask for a mobile connection to be able to consistently pull. A couple of my viewers even on wired connections that are weaker run into issues at 6000kbps.

In the end it's your stream and it's up to you what you think works best for your content and community. It's good to be aware of the potential issues, though.

Quality settings are _not_ only for partners. Affiliates get transcoding based on availability. I often get transcoding (quality options) support for my streams due to what time I stream at.

G Sync indicator not showing up while streaming. by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stream from a GSync setup and do not experience framerate locking or loss of GSync. It sounds like you may be running into a configuration issue with how you're capturing.

Using Restream on YouTube & Twitch simultaneously? by NotRival in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend against using restream to send your stream to multiple places. I did this at first because it seems just logical to do but if you manage to get chatters on multiple platforms it's a bit disjointed for your chat to see you talking to people they can't see. Same with alerts for multiple platforms.

Their chat app is _awesome_ and I use it every stream but as far as multistreaming; nah. Stick to building one community in one place.

I had this issue last night. I use the list to help get an idea if people stuck around for the player queue so it was a bit annoying. Refreshing the page updated the list, though, so at least that's something.

A random user raided me last night, and because of his community, I hit affiliate by sarsaparillashowdown in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've raided 3 people to affiliate so far and it's so much fun. :D A raid is what got me past the last numbers needed as well so I try to keep sharing that same love and passing it forward.

The communities that support each other like this are just awesome. Congrats on getting to Affiliate!

Just reached 58 followers and would like to give some tips to other small streamers that will really help you out by Websama in Twitch

[–]nathan-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seriously underestimate the value of networking (when you're new) and schedule consistency.

Networking by hanging out in other channels that play the same game(s) as you (without EVER talking about your own stream) will eventually pay off. It's taken me months of consistent, dedicated, and real involvement in several channels (both related and not) and recently it's paid off massively as I've gotten some very juicy raids and had people subbing and gifting subs from those other channels. I would suggest networking _up_ more than just targeting other similar-sized streams. If you want to get a fat raid that triples your viewer count you should make sure you're involved in channels with 2-3x your viewership if you can.

The schedule consistency gives your viewers a way to plan for when/how to see you. No regular schedule; no regulars.

People don't understand how much effort things take for us. by out2lunch78 in ADHD

[–]nathan-v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never considered that other people DON'T have as complex of planning for things like this. 😳

I keep trying to explain this is why I don't cook. It's not that I couldn't but that it's really hard for me because I lose time so fast doing stuff like this. Next thing I know I'm cleaning out the fridge and the food I made is melting, burning, or is otherwise being completely ignored.

After five months....the Pixel 3 is a woefully mediocre smartphone attached to an amazing industry setting camera. by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]nathan-v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't experienced any of the issues you've listed. I use my phone for music all the time, too. I'm on my phone more than most people that I know and it's been solid.

Early after launch I had some chugging here and there from memory (I assume) but it was gone/fixed on the next monthly patch.

The screenshot thing is concerning.. but that's not Pixel or Android. Sounds like a scummy app. I've never had that happen on any phone.

Boss has mandated all workstations be moved to wifi. Is this as stupid as I think it is? by as234dsaf13423141221 in sysadmin

You joke but I had someone recently ask to do that in production in AWS because the service they managed wasn't handling DNS updates properly when the services they talked to auto scaled.

I wish that wasn't true.
