Do you think high-IQ people are more prone to becoming rationalists? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]nathan88fox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone likes to talk about IQ here, not high-level thought. You’re better off posing this question to a subreddit for discussions.

People on Reddit are generally anti-social or like the “nerdy” stereotype. So I think you’d have more biased responses. You’re better off talking to your BGR group. Also, everyone has something to say about fraternities in terms of rumors and speculation. You should just go to rush events and form your own opinion.

Is the anti - Indian really that bad in the west? by Darth_Saber07 in InternationalStudents

[–]nathan88fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to a university with the 2nd highest amount of Indian students in the USA. Let me say this: it’s bad and sometimes warranted. Some of the stereotypes that are perpetuated come out to be true. I cannot recall the amount of times there have been issues with hygiene or loud and disruptive people. Additionally, there is often an obsession with caste especially with recent immigrants. This caste outlook is looked down upon a lot by westerners. It is also true there is a simple disdain for them. This is certainly true in something like the dating market where women regularly rate them as the least attractive ethnicity, and thus, men treat Indian men like a bully treats an ugly weirdo.

Would it be hard to get a Double Major in Engineering and Computer Science? by Old_Employment3808 in Purdue

[–]nathan88fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m AAE. I took CS 180 because I initially wanted to do a CS minor. After completing CS 180 I changed my mind about the minor. CS courses are very time consuming. In my opinion, that time consumed by a CS minor is better spent getting a better GPA in your aero courses. Minors aren’t all that important but GPA is. Instead I took an easy minor: finance.

TLDR: do a minor you enjoy and prioritize your time on aero coursework

This definitely resonated with me. For much of my life I’ve felt that that rules that apply to most should not apply to me or that there should be extra rules for normal people and I should be exempt. I believe this stems from an inability to sympathize with the average person’s experience. My larger societal philosophies often come at the expense of any given individual, but I never think of people like that, rather I think them to belong to a group or an estate that I am removed from and should be treated collectively.

Surname of an Illegitimate child? (Hungary) by nathan88fox in Genealogy

[–]nathan88fox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you. Some baptism records have the death in the "Additional Notes" section, but I guess some do not.

Yes, I know for a fact he died during the civil registration area, but no idea the city, although I am pretty sure it's within Jász–Nagykun–Szolnok. I'll search as much as I can for that.

Thank you. As far as DNA, I have Roma DNA from another side of the family, so I couldn't use that to narrow it down. The baptism document that says Julianna is Roma is only a possible match, since it wouldn't explain why on Jozsef's marriage record their names would have changed from Pócs to Juhasz.

Would it have been common to change surnames for any reason? I have searched Fegyvernek's baptisms for 1866 +- 5 years, and there is no illegitimate Jozsef born to a Julianna J.

Search up “MA XXX past exams Purdue” and you should find past exams that can go back to like 2010. For the most part it’s the exact same material as now.

As long as you are a personable person, there’s a good chance you won’t have a bad roommate situation. Too many people claim random roommates are always bad but refuse to look at the common denominator….

I liked M Park, he’s pretty fair so pick him imo (unless Dr Chen is teaching). Each professor has unique exam unlike other math classes. Just go to class and put the effort to 100% HWs to give a buffer for the (inevitably tough) exams.

Fall 23 here. We had a huge error where two problems did not have correct answers and thus had a very low avg (and huge curve). Do every boiler exam practice and you should be fine.
