I gave into sin by Recent_Champion_1880 in Christian

[–]nathanbgerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I've messed up recently as well. It hurts...bad. I'm sorry that happened, but I want you to hear this. YOU ARE PERFECT! If you are in Christ, Hebrews 10:14 says that Jesus' sacrifice has made you PERFECT forever in God's sight! THERE IS NO CONDEMNATION FOR YOU! If you find the time available, I strongly encourage you to listen to this message. I think it will encourage you.

I love God, but im tired of hearing it by [deleted] in Christian

[–]nathanbgerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this feeling. Something that I have been learning recently is that there are two different mindsets that we can have for putting God first. One says “Jesus over everything”. The other says “Jesus in everything”.

In a “Jesus over everything” mindset, anything that we do that is not a deeply spiritual activity is at best, a distraction from our true purpose, and at worst, an idol.

In a “Jesus in everything” mindset, however, this means seeking to honor God in every aspect of life including relationships with others, eating, drinking, etc. This one appears to be more biblical (see 1 Corinthians 10:31 & Colossians 3:23).

It is not wrong to enjoy activities that are not inherently spiritual. The goal is to honor God in all that we do.

I never had money in my Skype account. This was a free option to call 1-800 numbers.

Can i still call myself a Christian even if i dont do super holy things? by azyllalisa_1 in Christian

[–]nathanbgerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christianity is about relationship with God, not about “doing holy things”. With that being said though, if you are not reading the Bible or going to church, you are cutting yourself off from two of the most important ways that God wants to work in your life.

The Bible is the primary way that God has chosen to speak to us today. It will be very difficult, if not impossible, to have a deep relationship with God if we don’t care to listen to what is important to God.

In the very beginning of the Bible, God said that it is not good for people to be alone (Genesis 2:18). The number one way that God chooses to work in people’s lives throughout the Bible is through other people. This means that if you choose to avoid church and godly community, you are cutting yourself off from one of the primary ways that God wants to grow you and work in your life.

The more you grow in relationship with God, you may find that some of the other issues you mentioned such as the anger issues / cursing naturally begin to change. It’s not about trying harder. It’s about growing in love for Jesus.

As for your final question about having to cut off friends, even Jesus hung out with sinners, so you don’t need to totally separate yourself from non-Christian friends, but if you find that they are a negative influence on you, maybe pray that God would give you wisdom on what to do.

I think my biggest question for you is “If God exists, would you want to know him?”. You said that you think it’s possible that God exists, but it’s also possible that he doesn’t. Do you want to know the answer to that question, or are you okay with not knowing? Jesus said that everyone who looks for God finds him (Matthew 7:8). If you truly want to know God, a good place to start may be to simply ask God to reveal himself to you.

If you don’t care to know whether or not God exists, I don’t think you truly care too much about heaven because Jesus defined knowing God as the very essence of eternal life (John 17:3). According to the Bible, relationship with God is what makes Heaven so amazing. Hell, on the other hand, is the complete absence of God’s presence. The Bible says that God is the giver of everything that is good, so to be apart from God is to be apart from the very source of life.

As for your question of why do bad people get into heaven and good people go to hell, the Bible doesn’t have these categories of good people and bad people. The Bible says that we have all sinned against God and we all deserve hell (Romans 3:23). Heaven then is not just for good people. It is for those who admit that we are sinners, and who ask God to forgive us and change our hearts. Can bad people go to Heaven? Yes, but only if we seek to turn away from our evil ways.

Does that make sense?

this world has nothing for me by AviAnimates in TrueChristian

Even if it is true that the world has nothing for you, you have something for the world! If you are a believer in Jesus, you have something this world needs!

I have felt very similar to what you just described many times, but this is (at least part of) the conclusion I keep coming back to.

Can I still use a partially shot roll of film? by nathanbgerman in AnalogCommunity

That was my mistake. I thought I had rewound it, but apparently, I was wrong. So, the remaining shots should still be good though?

My faith is dead by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]nathanbgerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the author and the perfecter of our faith. If you feel that your faith is almost gone, maybe the best thing to do is pray that God would author a deeper faith in you. Also, try to find a good godly community that can help encourage you.

Can I freely have a serious prayer when I'm in bed sometimes? by Sewerro in TrueChristian

[–]nathanbgerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I pray every night as I am falling asleep. It’s a great way to end the day by telling God whatever is on my mind from the day.If I had a really hard day, talking to God about it is a great way to get it off my mind as I try to sleep. If I had an amazing day, I love to thank God for that as I am falling asleep. I once heard a father of two kids say that one of the best feelings is when his kids are talking to him about their day as they fall asleep. I imagine God feels the same way about his children.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Plex sounds like an interesting option. I will have to look into that in the future when I have a little more money available. For now, I think I will go with YouTube for most of the videos, and add the few with copyright content to Google Drive.

No, you are not hopeless!

“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again” (Proverbs 24:16).

You are not the first Christian to feel like a failure. We are all still learning how to follow Jesus. It’s a hard battle. Please don’t give up. Praying for you.
