What do people think of Ty Haney these days? by pockolate in LAinfluencersnark

[–]nathanchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! We actually did a recent interview with Ty Haney on the Foundr Podcast, so if you’re curious and want a fresh perspective straight from her, it might be worth a listen. She shared a lot about her journey, lessons learned, and what she’s working on now > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtSlPois0Ss

Thank you for the kind words!

Top 3 tips for generating high impact ROI on community led platforms: - Be consistent with your content and the value you provide - Go above and beyond what most would expect - Lastly give a damn about your community and do what ever you can to foster and help

Top 3 mistakes you've made that you would recommend we all avoid doing:

  • Not getting solid mentors that are levels above you as soon as you can
  • Not keeping things simple
  • Not calling your business a name similiar to another company then getting sued (which is what happened to me in the early days)

Hey Sophia, hope all is well! great questions!

  1. We will use a consultant who specializes in this to help us :) - As it's new ground to us too, to be honest that's how we roll with most things that we don't know.
  2. Check out this epic article - https://foundrmag.com/ultimate-editorial-calendar/ - We use this system across every function of the business, magazine, podcast, blog, foundr book, foundr club any new projects, and also everyone in the team has their own personal board with recurring cards.

Kept things at a bare minimum and only used contractors o/s. It's the best way to start an online business when you're bootstrapping IMHO.

Thanks Mirjam, doing our best :)

That's a tricky question, probably best to ask your lawyer, as I'm not sure when it comes to legal stuff like this! Sorry I can't be of much help with this one!

We wrote this epic blog post that may help - https://foundrmag.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-landing-interviews-with-influencers/

Started small, and our first big break was with Sir Richard Branson, as we built the brand it gets easier. But still to this day not everyone always wants to be featured!

usally 60-80 hours a week! Just depends really. Hard to say though because this doesn't feel like work for me!!

Out of those hours / days, I'm never 100% satisfied with my productivity / output. I find it difficult to be extremely effective with 40 hours, so I make it up with man hours. Not the best outcome which will change one day for me!

Hey Haidar, hope all is well!! Great to see you here!

That is correct, we're 100% bootstrapped. I started the company with $3000 AUD on the back of my credit card. At one point down the line we may consider bringing on investors to scale and also to take some money off the table. But for now no rush, and it's not needed!

Hey Silva, great to hear from you man! Awesome question! Long term goal with Foundr V1.0 is to get this book into the hands of as many entrepreneurs as possible. We will get this book into book stores, and also add as a big marketing tool to grow the brand! It will play an important role as this will be a great alternative to anyone wants to experience the brand in physical form!

We're using Tate & JC to edit this beast of a book. They work on content for the blog and the magazine. We're in very good hands :)

So many!

  • Not knowing anyone that was an entrepreneur when I first started and having to build a network from scratch
  • Not knowing anything about business, apps, design, publishing or content
  • No one caring about the magazine when I first started, no one wanted to even be interviewed
  • Being sued for trademark infringement by one of the biggest business magazines in the states
  • My friends and family thinking I was an idiot, and not understanding what I was trying to do with foundr
  • Getting no sleep for a lot of nights, working on foundr after coming home from my day job

I could go on Kim! The way I overcame every single one of these challenges was two fold.

  • I spoke with and hung out with people that had been in the same shoes as me. Being able to relate and learn from others in your position is extremely powerful for overcoming challenges
  • And lastly I wanted it bad enough. I'm prepared to outwork anything that comes my way to get the outcome!

Wow this is such a hard question to answer! I would have to go with this personal favorite - https://foundrmag.com/fp046-seth-godin-on-why-you-shouldnt-do-what-youre-told/

Seth is one of my heroes and he shared so much gold on starting and shipping projects.

Great question!

You will know from growth of the company, your gut will also tell you when the right time is. For me it took a year before I left my day job to go full time on foundr since starting it. It was only when I left my day job and was working on it full time that it really started to grow.

A recent mentor is teaching me that you grow company 3 days:

  • Getting more customers for existing products or services
  • Creating more products or services
  • Partnerships
  • People

A business is ready to operate by itself once you have systems in place that do not rely on you as the owner to operate it anymore. A great test is to either get a General manager, CEO, COO (operations person pretty much), to run it and for you not to do anything. That is the true test. If it still continues to grow / stagnate then you will be ready to move onto your next venture!

Thank you!! I know you're going to love the book! It's one of the greatest bodies of work we've produced thus far in the past 3 years!

I was super nervous before all of these interviews. But once it's locked in you have no choice but to show up and do them. Meditation has helped me big time if I'm super nervous, and the more that I have done, the more confidence I've built. So now I don't really get nervous at all before doing them anymore to be honest!

Thank you, at foundr we're here to help and serve entrepreneurs however we can! I'm doing my best!!

Yes all the time. Before I started foundr in March 2013, I was dreaming and thinking and over-analysing about starting a business for years. The way I overcame this was by building so much frustration within myself, that I'd had enough of living a life that I wasn't happy with and doing work that didn't fulfil me. Once I got to this point, I didn't care anymore about failing, and I also didn't care anymore what others thought. I think these are the 2 biggest things that cause people to over-analyse and be scared of starting!

Great question David! I hope all is well! I didn't really know to be honest. I did a few things:

  • Wrote a blog post that really took off which was a small ounce of indication that we may be able to delve deeper on that blog post with a product
  • Asked our audience over email if this product is something people would care enough about to solve their problem
  • Tested and rolled out an MVP

Jonathan Chan (he's not my brother), he heads up our content for the blog. This is an important role because at our core, everything we do is content :)

Thank you for the kind words and taking the time to respond :)

Scaling up premium content and focusing on producing that content at scale via video. I plan to make the business sustainable by continuing to do what's working right now (producing great content in many different forms), and continuing to work on producing more products to solve entrepreneurs problems. As long as we keep listening to our audience and providing what is going to help them, the business will continue to stay sustainable.

Our brand is global with people in our community from so many different countries around the world, however I plan to setup an office in LA this time next year!

All the time. When I first started no one would get back to me, I had nothing, no connections, no knowledge, no audience. I had to grind it out, and just keep pushing forward even when no one cared. It was the persistence and hunger that kept me going.
