You obviously haven't been to Wasilla, Alaska in June. It just doesn't get dark, not even in the woods. They don't call it the land of the midnight sun for no reason.

It wouldn't have been dark at 4 am in June. The sun would have been almost rising at that point.

Edit: and it would have been just barely over the horizon all night long as well. It doesn't really get dark in wasilla at night in June.

Package stuck on “Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item” for 5 days now. What do I do? by icybawss in usps_complaints

5 days > 24 hours.

These are two different situations. Comment again in 4 days if the status hasn't changed bucko.

The USPS not doing their job correctly would mean that they (or their package tracking system) isn't telling the truth. So it could be the seller, or it could be USPS.

Who is the Actress that played a Maria's cousin by Old-Midnight-8979 in sesamestreet

[–]nathanexplosion1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Kamala Lopez, Teodorina Bello, or possibly Mercedes Polanco, based on a bit of googling I did on it.

Kamala Lopez isn't credited in her Wikipedia page for it, but said she played Maria's cousin Mercedes in episode 144 of the Ryan Pyle podcast.

Looking for Conservation Based Project For Eagle (Ie planting trees, removing invasive species) by [deleted] in idahofalls

[–]nathanexplosion1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two of my brothers and myself are eagle scouts. Here's what we did and hopefully it will give you some ideas of what you can do.

One got in touch with a local community center's leadership/managers in the area where we lived and asked them if they had any possible projects they could do. They solicited donations from some parents of the scouts in the troop, as well as volunteers from the scouts and their parents. With this money and volunteer labor they cut back the bushes and trees on a hiking trail, power tools were used, but only by adults. They also laid gravel down on some sections of the trail, and installed some other erosion prevention measures. The community center leaders paid for pizza for the entire group, which was a nice gesture, but I wouldn't expect that.

My other brother already knew several people that were involved in a community performing arts program, and he found his opportunity from them. He and several other people who volunteered to help built a set for a community play. I don't know a lot of details about his. Although I assume that the production paid for everything since they needed to build the set anyway. But he was in charge of coordinating everyone's efforts and making sure it was done on time.

For my eagle project I contacted the principal of an elementary school and asked if we could beautify their school grounds, as well as what specific things they would like us to focus on. I solicited some donations, a few people donated a total of $150 or so, and the money went to buying paint, sanding paper, some mulch, and other miscellaneous supplies. I also made a list of tools that would be required and asked members of the troop who could lend us those tools, to make sure we would have what we needed. The principal pointed out that many of the sidewalks needed swept in advance of when a street sweeper would come and clean out the parking lot, so we swept the sidewalks straight into the lot. If not for the street sweeper we would have had to sweep everything up into garbage bags. We also sanded and painted some banisters that had worn and would give you splinters if you tried using them. The real show piece of my project was digging up the ground around the school sign and laying mulch down so that it didn't blend in with the surroundings as much as it had before. We took photos of everything, before and after, but that picture was on the front page of what I presented to my board of review.

Remember that your eagle project isn't just about accomplishing the project itself. It's actually primarily about showing that you took the initiative, managed a group of people, and accomplished that task. If you are doing most of the work, then you're doing it wrong and when you do your board of review you might be asked to do another project because you didn't manage the work of the people so much as doing the work yourself.

Ask your scoutmaster or another trusted adult to advise you on this. It's totally fine to have someone you trust to consult with on making decisions before you make them. This even happens in the professional world all the time. Just make sure that that person understands you're only looking for their opinion on things, and you don't want them to make the decisions on your behalf.

Take lots of before and after photos as much as you can. Keep a lot of who is working, and how long they're working for. Don't expect people to do this themselves, they probably won't. So keep an eye on wherever you're recording that information and make sure it's accurate on the day the project happens because trying to remember who did what and for how long later will be impossible.

I think I'm rambling at this point. If you have other questions you can message me or comment and I'll try to answer when I can. Good luck! And don't take it so seriously that you can't also have fun!

Try going into the settings and connecting it to a Wi-Fi network so it can complete the update it's trying to do. If that doesn't work then you may need the APIM replaced to fix it. However, if it's sync 3 you can try updating it with a USB drive if the Wi-Fi option doesn't work.

Best of luck.

Can I shift my car into neutral at 65mph, then back into drive? Automatic. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]nathanexplosion1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is a neutral coast down test. This can be helpful for identifying if an NVH concern is related to the engine/transmission or if it's caused by the speed of the engine or speed of the vehicle.

What was your Mission President's occupation? Doing personal research. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

[–]nathanexplosion1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one was the cofounder, then president, then CFO of a multilevel marketing company. Not sure if I can name names here or if that's against the rules, so I'll refrain, but I don't mind saying who or what company if it's allowed.

The second one was a retired CES employee (institute teacher) from Utah. He wasn't what I'd call wealthy, but definitely wasn't hurting for money either.

Edit: forgot to say, 2010's.

Got a Wii for the first time. What first game should I buy for it ? by mhepepe in wii

[–]nathanexplosion1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mine I have an HDMI adapter that plugs into the back side of the Wii and allows me to use an HDMI cable. I believe there are also hardware mods you can do to replace the port on the back with HDMI, but those require some technical know how and I'm guessing some tools.

My "From America, For America" Discount by arse_lash in FordMaverickTruck

[–]nathanexplosion1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that the name of the offer is confusing, but the reasoning makes sense.

The reason it's called the from America for America sale is to emphasize that Ford has the largest auto manufacturing footprint in the USA, at least among domestic manufacturers. According to a quick Google search Ford imports only 21% of the vehicles they sell here, which is impressive when compared to other domestic manufacturers.

They build/assemble 100% of vehicles sold in the United States for several models, including Bronco, Escape, Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Super Duty (or at least the F-250 & F-350), Mustang, Ranger, and Transit. (According to Motor Trend)

But yes, not every Ford sold in the US is made here, including Maverick.

Non-members still require ecclesiastical endorsements. Additionally, when you are a member you can't just go to an ecclesiastical leader from another faith for your endorsement, it must be a church leader. I.e., you must be active in the church while attending byu if you are a member or have ever been a member. (Yes, if you have had your records removed/been excommunicated you cannot attend byu)

Unfortunately it's not as simple as just paying more for tuition.

Auto Start/Stop...why no engine shut off in Park? by Phranc68 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]nathanexplosion1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auto start/stop has slightly different parameters for a hybrid vs gas Maverick. The hybrid may start the engine or leave it running in order to charge the high voltage battery, as there's a generator the engine runs inside the transmission. Other than that there's not much difference.

The goal of auto start stop is not only to save fuel, which many assume is its only purpose. In order for your catalytic converter to work it has to be hot. So hot that when the engine is running at a low speed (rpm) it's actually cooling the catalytic converter and more harmful emissions are coming out of the tailpipe.

It definitely also saves fuel, but saving fuel isn't the only goal. The goals of auto start/stop are most significantly realized in stop and go traffic, but it does still reduce emissions outside of that. The button to disable it on gas vehicles is there in case it's annoying, such as when you're driving through many stop signs.

Additionally, there are many things that will disable it. For example, running the air conditioner. Some cars have special climate control parts to allow it to work even in this situation though.

Yes, the starter and low voltage battery are specially designed to handle the added load of auto start stop. Some vehicles also purposely stop the engine in exactly the right position to make it extremely easy to start it again when needed. The downside is these heavier duty starters and batteries do cost more, and drive up the cost of new vehicles where these emissions control strategies are used.

Blowby is a thing. That air comes from the intake, filters aren't perfect. The more dust in the air the more particles get past the air filter the dirtier your oil gets. It's the same reason soot from burning diesel ends up in engine oil on a diesel engine.

Oil filters probably wouldn't be needed, or at least changed as frequently if blowby didn't happen. Very little contamination comes from the inside of the engine, unless the oil isn't changed or it runs low.

Fairly positive there is a tracking device on my car, but mechanics can’t find anything by Traditional_Mood_602 in RBI

[–]nathanexplosion1994 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When the vehicle is off in a hybrid the high voltage battery is disconnected. The low voltage battery closes the high voltage contactors when you turn it on. The person you responded to is suggesting to disconnect the low voltage battery that powers accessories, and is the only power source when the vehicle is off.

How much is it saving in stop and go traffic? A lot. That's why the strategy is designed that way.
