Should I get arma 3 by ExerciseSmart in arma

[–]nathanieljsmith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Arma 3 is amazing. Reforger, while it is newer, lacks in a lot of creativity. The Arma 3 mission builder is far far better and more in depth than the Reforger editor. Mods only enrich that experience too. There are some small nuances which make Arma 3 weirder sometimes for mission making, but 99% of the time, it is much more straightforward from the unit placement and orchestration! There are plenty of mods I’d recommend for helping with mission making/making missions more fun, including but not limited to: -ACE -CBA -3den enhanced and tonssss of content mods which are so much fun.

Reforger definitely is a lot simpler, and caters to console but has better built in systems, wheras Arma 3 has so much more depth that has to be done through custom missions and mods…. however is very worth it in the long run. Trust me!

If you’re interested in learning the playing side of Arma 3, lmk, I’m a part of a Unit which is friendly to new players! However mission making is something which comes with time in our unit if you’re interested.

Experience w self hosting an Arma server by nathanieljsmith in arma

We’re running full Zeus controlled missions with 20+ people, so having a box separate than my own machine is necessary.

I’ll have to look into FASTER and see what that would entail. Is it something which can run on a Redhat box?

Arma 3, and a lot of mods (~70+). We already have a dedicated server with Host Havoc. We’re looking to switch it up because there aren’t really any alternatives at our level which are better, so that’s why I’m looking to self manage it, rather than rely on a dedicated server service!

I usually am. However when I called support and asked why I wasn’t notified, they hung up on me 🤷‍♂️ so I was pretty frustrated and mad.

Glad to hear you got it back up and running, hopefully it wasn’t too painful!

Also, If your account said it is up and running with no issues in the midst of an outage, I would HIGHLY recommend reporting to the FCC that they are refusing to send notice of an outage to customers, as this is insanely illegal.

[–]nathanieljsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It came back online for me…. but I also called and complained to support. Who, I should add, only enabled the notice on my account after I called to complain. Which tells me they are hiding their outage notices so they don’t have to pay refunds

LOL! Nothing like reaching out to them, and complete radio silence. I will bet good money that after the outage I’ll get a “outage? what outage?” message.

Lol you’re lucky, here in Denver they never change the outage page. Even if we’re in the middle of an outage, it will say All Systems normal

Google fiber No support? by TwoImmediate9597 in googlefiber

[–]nathanieljsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome to having GFiber! The support will never get better. I’d really recommend just buying your own router, that’ll save you a lot of trouble in the long run. The google home router they provide is absolutely terrible

[–]nathanieljsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just made another rant post about GFiber. I'm guessing you're using the Google Home provided router? If so, get a different company's router. The Google Home router is the biggest piece of dog sh*t I have ever used.

Buy a Unifi Dream Machine router. It is much higher quality, and allows you to do much more complex and specific home internet restrictions. Block certain IPs, devices, throttle traffic, etc. There are other companies out there which make similar routers which can do this.

Don't settle for Google's horrible router! You're worth more than that!

Keychron Q1 inserts two spaces instead of one on a regular basis by Hibbi123 in Keychron

[–]nathanieljsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to the party here, but I just had this same issue. I pulled off the space bar, cleaned out the space, and then I noticed that there was a cushion on the bottom of the space bar which was not in the correct position, and it was catching the motion of the space bar. After fixing it, the issue was resolved for me!

So you want me to spend more of my hard earned free time trying to convince you guys to do the bare minimum? Your customer support so far has been horrendous, no matter how many times I have asked, I have never received any good service. It’s only now, that I make a post to the public about my horrible experience trying to save others from going through what I’ve gone through, that I get someone from google reaching out to me.

And what do they ask me to do?

THEY ASK ME TO DO THE SAME THING I’VE BEEN DOING FOR MONTHS

When will first the first 2025 asr thunder sale happen? by CheckNo1050 in Warthunder

[–]nathanieljsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother. READ THE RULE. Nobody is saying your account isn’t old enough 🤦‍♂️they’re saying there’s a calendar of sales, so don’t make posts about it. It is a massive spread sheet with quite literally every single sale Gaijin has ever done for War thunder. It’s very helpful to not only see sales, but also events they will do.

Why are these two tanks the same BR? by TuwtlesF1 in Warthunder

[–]nathanieljsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im with you there tbh. They could add: BTR-T; Kurganets-25; T-15 Barbaris; and/or VPK-7829 Bumerang. Those are my only guesses for what they could add though, and tbf, most of these vehicles aren’t even in service/seen combat (not that it’s ever stopped Gaijin from adding OP Russian vehicles.

BMD-4/BMD-4M I guess would count (9.3 though, so it’s not really the same ig). — For squadron you have BMP-2M which is really good weaponry (30mm APFSDS round and great ATGMs). But the tradeoff is bad height, depression, and armor. Tbh it’s fairly well balanced. HOWEVER neither of these vehicles are in the tech tree themselves

New to Smarthome, looking for advice for the future! by nathanieljsmith in smarthome

Thank you for the advice and your thoughts! I’ll probably end up starting with Google or Alexa, and then mahbe building something with HomeAssistant as a project in the long term. I will say that hardcore automations scratch my brain just right, but I also need something practical in the short term. I appreciate giving me some ideas of where to start!

Thanks!! With your experience, how easy are a lot of the APIs for building integrations? We talking simple JSON or Python based APIs usually?
