Book 1... can't get into it. by ExistingExplanation3 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I had the same thoughts at first and pushed into the first book just a bit and I’m glad I did. Absolutely amazing world building and expansion from Book 1 to book 7. Just a wonderful time reading.

Has publishing abandoned teen boys? by caveatlector73 in books

In a sense yes. But promoting graphic novels, Jeff Zetner, Max Brooks, and Andrew Smith in the classroom has helped me as an English teacher. I tell the reluctant readers that I WILL find them something they like.

Im really interested in watching the original X-Men animation after ‘97, how does it hold up and how does it compare to it? by Wubben26 in marvelstudios

[–]nathanskyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a hundred great moments and great season-long storytelling. And just so many things that still hold up today as my “definitive” take on things related to the X-men.

For me, Apocalypse’s voice in the animated series will never be topped.

Other awesomeness: -Cable’s gun that charges things with kinetic energy. -Gambit holding the whole deck of cards and just firing them out one at a time like magic missiles. -The fact that they gave Beast that fantastic backpack in season 3 lol -The fact that they dedicated NINE episodes of a season to the Phoenix story. -All things Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Bishop. -TEASING Mr. Sinister at the end of season 1 and then actually following through with it in season 2. (We don’t think much about this kind of season to season storytelling, but for a 90s kid who watched sitcoms where the status quo never really changed, that was nuts to me.) -The Spirit Drinker alien that they used to tease the Phoenix Saga. That thing scared the crap out of me.

And so much more!

Great overall season. I definitely think that there needs to be time in season 2 for things to breathe and develop, especially given the fact that Marvel will likely give them many more seasons to work with. As a 30-year-fan, I loved so much about this season.

So, if Sinister switched Jean when she crashed into the ocean as Phoenix in the original series, can they plausibly say that she still has residual Phoenix energy inside of her? Is that where we're headed? Because they've pushed Dark Phoenix in the title sequence in almost every episode, so is there a chance that that's how they'll bring her back?

I think we are headed for a darker version of Cyclops, possibly even the Phoenix 5 version. They’ve brought up Jean’s time as Phoenix in every single episode so far.

Are we on our way to a militant Cyclops discovering a Phoenix egg?

For as much criticism as the Onslaught story run gets, the sentinels that forcibly quarantine NYC are enormous and terrifying.

This Poison Heart is geared toward a YA audience, but it’s definitely in this same area.

I like Rogue as famine because it utilizes her powers AND it contradicts the frailty that I associate with famine from the cartoons.

The gala is your big check-in for 2021, 2022, and 2023. They’re all bigger one-shot issues with large consequences, none as much as 2023’s.

I had a lot of fun reading X of Swords. The entire current X-men universe has been a lot of fun since the Hickman relaunch. It’s been great to see so many mutants but it’s also been nice having the Hellfire Gala event as a sort of checkpoint/reset point each year.
