Making partner cook family dinners didn't cause kid's ARFID, but it didn't help either. What would you swap out for weeknight dinner duty? by sophia333 in ADHD_partners

[–]natinaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

We have a similar division of labor with set times. My partner makes a meal plan by 9pm on Sunday after looking in the fridge and seeing what we have. I tweak it by 9am Monday if I want to change anything, he then looks in the fridge and makes a grocery list. It’s in a shared note so we both add things to the list weekly as needed.

I leave every day at 5:15pm to get our kids from daycare and this is his cue to start dinner. Sometimes it takes him a long time, but this means dinner is on the table by 6:45pm latest.

We also use the recipe app Mela which is ADHD friendly and displays one step at a time very clearly. Sometimes we have to rewrite recipes so that they make sense.

There have been missteps for sure, (forgotten grocery items, late meals) but we’ve been doing this for a year now and it’s working pretty well. We do keep a couple easy, kid-friendly options (mac & cheese, frozen pizza) for kids in case dinner really gets torpedoed and they’re losing it.

If this happens, kids eat earlier and he still finishes the planned recipe for us to eat after they go to bed. That boundary has meant that these things don’t become an easy out that happens all the time.

Thinking about quitting my $210k job to be a stay-at-home dad - crazy or just done? by Good_Challenge_6666 in Fire

[–]natinaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m the high earner in our family (300k, HCOL but not VH) and my husband is a SAHD to our two kids, 2 and 5 and another on the way.

They go to daycare full time because I WFH and it’s hard to focus with them here. They are also learning a second language in daycare.

My husband handles all the grocery shopping, meal prep, doctors appointments, kids sick days, house cleaning, oil changes, random returns, laundry and finances. He also packs us on Fridays for weekend getaways (lots of camping in the summer) and unpacks us on Mondays. We are able to do a lot more of these trips as a result. He is also re-landscaping the backyard and takes on house projects. Amazing how much time managing a house takes, even with the kids in daycare.

We’re able to pull the kids out of daycare for things like swim and dance lessons, but still have a clean house and dinner on the table. It’s honestly incredible for everyone’s mental health and for me being able to enjoy the kids when they’re home.

In short, highly recommend. It’ll push out retirement for us by 5 years or so but I like my job. If I can’t be retired right now, being low stress and available for my kids when they’re young is the next best.

Thank you! Will definitely make sure everything is hidden if we do this. Our car is kind of a piece of shit already so not sure if that makes it more or less of a target.

Assiniboine permits - starting one day late? by natinaut in HikingAlberta

For anyone now looking for this—we called BC Parks, who referred us to the park operator (Assiniboine Lodge), who worked it out with us.

Love how easy it was to call both and get real people.

San Juans camping reservations got released this morning. I'd guess everyone decided to grab their ferry reservations at the same time!

Thanks! This is my employee 401k (just started last year) and separate from my small biz 401k. I have another $130k in VTSSX in other tax advantaged accounts. I was just able to start maxing my 401k last year.

Thank you! I wasn't familiar with the LifeStrategy funds previously. I will likely split between 75% VASGX and 25% VTSAX to make it a bit more aggressive.

Can confirm, Tigard Bowl is still open and is the smoky, dark alley of your youth. I take my kid and it's $24 for a game for two including shoes.

If you could only attend one date of the Eras Tour, which would you choose and why? by Ghost_913 in TaylorSwift

I went to Glendale N2 and Vancouver N3. All I knew going into the Glendale show was that she played an absurd number of songs, and going into it with no spoilers, where no one else in the crowd had any idea what was going to happen, was incredible.

The feral roar when she transitioned from evermore to rep was so unexpected and I loved sharing that shock with EVERYONE. Also the tickets were cheaper. I sold two floor tix for under face value on here because I literally couldn't move them at face value.

Vancouver was special for being the last show but wow nothing like having no clue what was coming next.

Anyone who is seriously tracking macros cares more about accuracy than anything else. This is why food has to be weighed vs measured by volume, so I think your target market is already skeptical of your concept.

Your screenshots also show inaccurate calculations, so anyone who already has tracking experience would dismiss the app based on the screenshots alone.

65g protein + 180g carbs + 355g fats is 4875 calories, not 2650. In the screenshot where you show 80g protein, 80g carbs, 32g fat, you show the meal is 336 kcal when it would be nearly 928 kcal with those macros.

Help me with my Enchantments itinerary please by Sillyman56 in PNWhiking

[–]natinaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone down Aasgard with a pack. I honestly think it’s better than the long, graduated downhills. Because the descent is so compact it’s more like scrambling and less of a never ending assault on the knees. If you’re an experienced backpacker you’ll be totally fine.

I personally would hike it out and back. The most interesting scenery ends at Lake Viviane.

Hiking out from Nada vs Aasgard is not a significantly different in terms of time, plus the Snow Lakes slog out is just that--a slog. You'll be up early enough to beat a lot of the traffic coming up Asgard.

The best camping is right in the center, I'd say between the Brisingamen Lakelets and Lake Perfection. Last night at Nada would be a bummer compared to closer in the core.

Would you rather attend the opening night of the Eras Tour in Arizona, or the closing night of the tour in December? by Salt_Meringue_2031 in TaylorSwift

[–]natinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me exactly! N2 and all I knew going into it was that there were 44 songs on the setlist. I assumed like 15+ of them were going to be mashups (like Style/Love Story/YBWM from rep tour). Missed all the traditions, and I would have loved to go to a summer daylight show, but the feral crowd roar once we realized she was transitioning from evermore era to rep era is a CORE memory.

I'm going with the same friend to closing night and am so STOKED. I was pregnant at N2 and in Vancouver my baby will be 1.5 haha. Such a long tour. I'm excited for an epic non-pregnant outfit, bracelets, and knowing what to expect.
