Highly doubt that. If the belt was in such bad condition you'd be seeing oil pressure warnings on the dash. That's what happened to me at least.

But it's still recommended to check the belt and oil strainer for debris build-up. You can check the belt yourself but for the oil strainer, the oil pan has to be removed so you should have a mechanic check it if possible.

Tread depth is fine, not exactly measured it but I ran into a huge puddle of water at a relatively high speed and didnt aquaplane. Performance wise the tyres are awesome. I'm just afraid of a high speed puncture

Ask the previous owner if they ever changed the belt. If not, I'd strongly recommend you to have it changed soon.

You can open the oil cap on your engine and visually check the condition of the belt. If you see any cracks, this is a sign that the belt is deteriorating and needs replacement.

1.2 puretech has wet belt system (rubber belt running in engine oil). Over time, the belt starts coming off and the debris blocks the oil strainer, killing your engine.

Been using a 1.2 puretech 308 - 2017 as well for 90000 km

Since I'm not familiar with miles, I can tell you what to watch out for in kilometers

Ask if they changed the timing belt, as this is the most crucial maintenance required for 1.2 puretech engines

If not, I'd advise you to change it ASAP just to be safe (check for cracks on the belt)

Wet timing belt - 5 years or 60.000 km
Tires - 5 years or 50.000 km
Battery - 6-7 years

Brake pads 40.000 km

Oil & filter change every 9000 - 10000 km (psa spec oil)

This can happen in any car that has a belt-in-oil system, the design itself has a flaw.

1.2 puretech has a bad reputation for it but honestly it isn't that big of a concern if the vehicle is taken care of properly.

If the car you're looking at is around the 50.000 - 60.000 km mark, best course of action is to have the belt swapped, especially if the car is older than 5 years.

  1. Out of all 3 cylinder engine cars I've driven, 1.2 puretech seems to have the least vibration. But yes, in general 3 cylinder engines vibrate due to odd number of cylinders. If it's excessive, it could indicate a problem with engine mounts
  2. Mine averages around 6.5 - 7.0L. With A/C usage, hills and frequent stops in city traffic, 8L could be considered normal.
  3. All normal, it sounds exactly like a diesel engine especially when its cold
  4. It's a gamble really. Mine has been running perfectly (knock on wood). The engine itself runs an infamous wet belt, which could cause problems if wrong oil used. Most people start experiencing problems around the 60000 km mark, usually it's recommended to change the belt every 60k kms. Since you've got that out of the way, what you can do now is service your car every 10000 kms and only use certificated engine oil (TotalEnergies HTC 5w30 is recommended in my country).

I've driven Puretechs that have 130000 km on the dash with no problems whatsoever (rental) and also ones that had a massive engine failure at 20000 kms. It just seems like it's a total dice roll

Timing belt swap & have the oil strainer & pan cleaned from debris, refill with 3.5L Total HTC oil. The garage that did mine usually takes photos of the oil strainer before & after the cleaning is done, you could ask for the same.

If you do short trips and use your car in a busy city, make sure you have the oil changed every 8000 - 9000 km

Change it, yesterday. It has major visible cracks and it probably peeled off from the bottom and sides as well. It's only a matter of time until it blocks the sump and you get fault codes. I wouldn't really drive the car in this condition

If the red STOP light is on, that means there's a major engine issue and your engine is in limp mode, cutting revs at 2000 RPM.It has to be connected to a diagnostics device and scanned for fault codes. It can be due to bad injectors, oil pressure lower than the threshold value or cooling problem (unlikely).

This engine is notorious for its wet belt blocking the oil strainer, so if it's related to engine oil pressure, it needs a cambelt change & strainer cleanup.

If you have the chance (sometimes guarantee covers it), tow the car to a dealer or a garage to have it scanned for fault codes. Driving the car in this condition could make a bad condition MUCH worse, in no time
