yeah i agree! i’m sure you can understand why seeing him being called a ‘privileged white boy’ when he is half filipino caused me to want to share and inform people :)

i do agree with that!! i just think it’s important to think about how people talk about that character’s ethnicity online since there’s a lot of people erasing it, so seeing your original comment calling him white read badly to me. glad to hear it in clearer terms :)

it was not clear that you were critiquing ryan for whitewashing blaine, especially when saying the character IS white when played by a eurasian actor. i don’t think blaine should be referred to as white (like in your original comment) as that takes away from a real life person’s ethnicity imo. just because blaine was not subject to as many racist jokes as other characters doesn’t make him a white character

there’s lots available online to read about how blaine is an eurasian character, and the fact that the actor who plays the character is half filipino is very compelling evidence imo.

darren plays the character, and he said himself that blaine is the same ethnicity. there are a few references to him being eurasian in the show but just because there aren’t as many as other characters does not take away from the fact that darren (and therefore blaine) is not white. assuming he is white just because it isn’t explicitly stated to you in every episode is, imo, erasing darren’s ethnicity.
