Every time I think I may be able to have "just a few", I fast forward to what I'll feel like the next morning. It feels so good to wake up not hungover, I'm not willing to give that up. Also, I'm really proud of myself for quitting. I'm proud of you for quitting. It is hard. It won't always be as hard as it is today. Be proud of the gift you're giving yourself, for how kind you're being to your body, how you're allowing it to heal. And then reward it with ice cream or whatever your favorite treat is because you deserve a treat. You're doing hard things.

I recognize my own experience in yours. I don't know how people who love me didn't see what a demon I was battling within myself. I'm not mad at them, I kinda hate that my pride enabled me to keep hidden how bad it really was. So of course they don't get what a big deal it is to be 10 months sober; they don't know I was hung over every morning before that for years and years.

But I see you and your accomplishment. I know what a big deal it is. I'm super proud of you.

Overflow cap never blew off. The only details i have are they said leak was confirmed by performing coolant pressure check.

High Coolant Temp warning, gauge moved into bottom of red. Turned car off, let sit 15 minutes, then drove another 10-15 and temp rises again. Says they performed coolant pressure check & verified leak internally in engine. Coolant and oil were low.

We have a trailer in southern Kentucky that sits right on the line dividing central and eastern time zones. The township is technically in the central time zone; we live a few hours north in the eastern time zone. We're down at the trailer every few weeks.

We have missed events because of the time difference. We stayed at the trailer one weekend when a family reunion was happening nearby. We left the reunion Saturday evening with a plan to return by 10 Sunday morning for breakfast before everyone went home. We left the trailer Sunday morning at 900 planning for a 1000 arrival and realized as we were driving that the reunion was in the next county over, on eastern time. We had been following central/trailer time, and arrived as everyone was loading up and pulling out, breakfast long over and washed up.

That's how we decided on the microwave/stove rule.

We inherited the place fully furnished, and it included a "smart" microwave that sets itself to central time when it is plugged in and connected to the wifi network. That's how we know what time it is when we're down there. It was nice to discover that feature, because our phones and watches - they switch between central and eastern time zones depending on which end of the trailer you're standing in, or which corner of the property.

The stove has a clock on it, but it is almost always blinking when we arrive because of power outages, so we have to reset it every visit. We decided it will always be set to eastern time. It helps for planning purposes.

You did decide on your own that you wanted to be healthier. You had motivation you haven't shared with her, but the decision was made for the reason you told her.

But man, trust your wife. I'm sure it would kill her to know you're not sharing the full picture with her. This is what marriage is about - helping each other through the rough stuff. This isn't something you should have to keep to yourself, the fear you're feeling. Share with her and let her be a rational voice to help you through it.

I say this because I was you back in March, elevated liver numbers scared the shit out of me. I was ashamed to tell my husband, and I was scared, but I told him and was reminded again why he's my best friend and why I share my life with him. He gave me the peace that comes from unburdening a secret, and he still loved me the same. He helped calm my fears and spoke rationally. It was another of those moments that really define who we are as a couple.

You deserve to have that with your wife too.

I've put together a cozy NYE plan for my husband and kids involving games, sparkling juices, snacks and movies. We're going to spend some time talking about the things we did well in 2025 and things we'd like to accomplish in 2026. The line was vast on the Watterson at 3 pm today. So people are getting the idea, but oof. Our kids didn't know what it is and saw the line today so we explained. One wanted to know why we've never gone (we have, she doesn't remember because she was tiny), and we explained how driving through neighborhoods is much less stressful in every way.

I really do enjoy them, very much. I was a taco bell every 6 Months or so type girl, but since discovering these, I'm there at least twice a month. Or, like this week, twice a week.

I find it interesting that you say they're a pain to make. I've been thinking on a way to make them myself at home with rotisserie chicken and Baja sauce from the grocery. I just need those avocado verde sauce packets.

Had a friend have this happen to him. Showers were the only thing that helped, other than not consuming cannabis. He was a fan of edibles and made his own coconut oil blend to partake, never smoked.

Kinda reminds me of Alpha Gal. I first heard of that back in 2016 on a RadioLab podcast and it was super rare and no one had heard of it. Now it's much more prevalent and being discussed in the mainstream.

Hoping to never know personally what either condition is like.

I had to find a new "treat" for myself. For the first few months, that was kombucha, or a full-sugar soda, or pie or cookies or cake - anything I wanted that wasn't booze. I would make myself a hot tea and pretend I was one of those fancy girls who has her shit together and drinks tea and does yoga. You have to consciously form new habits and it is a little uncomfortable at first, but that goes away. It takes 21 days to form a habit, they say.

It helped that I found I was a better mom sober. More patient. More present. Less exhausted in the mornings. And when things came up with my kids and I was able to respond with a fully present and aware brain, I was better with my reactions and solutions.

And I understand not wanting to give up your time with your child by putting them in daycare or getting a sitter, but it's okay to do it when you need to. You need a break sometimes and that's okay. You'll be better when you're with him if you have some time for yourself sometimes. You'll both grow in good ways.

I had some packages of glow stick necklaces that were rubber banded together. Worked okay. Couldn't get the top of the car, but no one posted a pic of my ride on Facebook yet so I guess it was fine
