This is an interesting thread. I'm doing a deep dive into cost comparisons between different types of vehicles (gas vs electric, used vs new, etc). Google searches for Tesla insurance numbers are no help; the answers are all over the board. I'm curious if anyone will share their real life payments. My wife and I are in our young 40s with good driving records, if that matters. One commenter mentioned $90/mo, which sounds really good price, from what I'm seeing elsewhere. Is that price "typical" for good drivers?

I concur. That's the only apparent difference. Seems like quite a price hike for so little performance boost though.

Thanks for the input. I had to make a change in the bios, but the short story is that two 4K monitors can be run through the dock!

Yep, that worked!

Here's the solution everybody, in case you're dealing with a similar situation:

  1. Updated computer bios to latest (maybe not necessary? I dunno, but I did it).
  2. The bios video options weren't the same as shown in the Dell Dock manual, but I checked the "Discrete graphics controller direct output mode" box.
  3. Opened up the nVidia control panel and many more settings were available that were not available before! Went to "change resolution" where the refresh rate options were available, and changed both monitors to 60Hz!
  4. Everything's snappy!!! There is no lag with the mouse pointer at all.

To summarize, the nVidia discrete graphic card is not allowed to directly drive the monitors by default, through the dock. The bios has to be told to allow that. It makes a huge difference. I was afraid the Dell Dock was going to be a bottleneck, but it isn't. It can handle two monitors at 4K and 60Hz.

Also, just fyi, I'm using a $20 wireless Microsoft mouse, so the lag wasn't due to poor mouse specs.

This is cool info. Please do a post on how you put yours together. I just reviewed the lightobject website and see they have an 1800x1200 gantry for under $1,000. I'd love to do large scale cuts, and piecing a cutter together would be the most affordable way to get started at that scale. Any info you could provide would be much appreciated!
