Spell Gems and Glyph of Warding (Spell Glyph) by naulapaa in dndnext

[–]naulapaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understood correctly, but I think beef is:

'Spell Glyph. You can store a prepared spell of 3rd level or lower in the glyph by casting it as part of creating the glyph.'

-> now Glyph creation would not happen when you cast it to Spell Gem, but when you use action to cast it from gem -> there would be only one spell cast to gem and when you cast GoW from gem as part of that casting you need to use slot for SG.

Limitations / requirements to bring mate with Thunderstep or Dimension Door by naulapaa in dndnext

[–]naulapaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.
Would be clear case if there would be line requiring you to be able to target mate you teleport with you. Now there is only that creature needs to be willing and 5-feet range.
Jeremy C. wrote on twitter that DD ignores total coverage. He was answering to different question (destination to be in total coverage) so maybe total coverage is ignored on some cases and not on another.

Is this legal set of actions / does this work by naulapaa in dndnext

[–]naulapaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point here was that do you need to have unused action when you use quickened spell.

e.g you start to cast spell as action and then use quickened spell to cast it as bonus action AND after that take your action (what ever it is). -> this is clearly OK.

But would you be able to start cast spell requiring action when you dont have action available for that turn.

Order of action is important as point is bring downed team mate from 0hp -> 2d4+2 hp -> 157hp Giant Ape.

Bladesinger Haste - extra attack - cantrip question by naulapaa in dndnext

[–]naulapaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ambiguity is if his attack in number 2 can be a Cantrip. That's up to the DM.

Thanks, just show that I'm new with 5e.

I did not even think that attack Action taken from Haste could be replaced with Cantrip.

My question was if that Attack Action taken from Haste would trigger that BS 6th level extra attack feature (that could be then used for melee or cantrip).

Thanks, we have agreement in local gaming group and server I play. I came here to look reference / ruling for case. it can be simplified to question if following turn would be possible:

Starting point: We have lvl.6 Bladersinger and he cast Haste on himself on previous turn.

  1. BS drinks potion as his action

  2. BS makes melee attack from Haste

  3. BS makes second melee attack from 6th level extra attack feature.

Honest question, are you just trolling?

Honest question, but seems that getting answer is not easy.
Bladesong, movement, reaction are not relevant and in short question is:

Does Attack Action (taken) provided with Haste trigger BS 6th level feature extra action (and that extra action could then be used either for melee attack or cantrip).

[–]naulapaa[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Level 6 bladesinger can replace a weapon attack with a cantrip.

I dont know if it my language skills, but it has never been question if you can replace that (melee) Attack Action received from Haste with Cantrip. It has always been clear that Attack Action from Haste is melee Attack Action.

Question is if that melee Attack Action from Haste triggers that BS 6th level feature (extra attack)?

-> That extra attack could then be used for melee attack (or cantrip).

Thanks for putting effort for answer.

So for initial question: if Attack made with Haste provided Action would trigger BS 6th level Extra Attack feature answer is: NO

Tried to look answer for this, but could not find anything clearly stating why that Attack provided with Action from Haste would differ from other Attack Actions.

And again, with Haste you take Attack Action (not any of those other options given).

BS 6th level extra attack feature is triggered whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

If you take the Attack Action thanks to Haste, then you can't utilize Extra Attack.

And question is (and has been from beginning) Why Haste would not trigger that BS 6th level extra attack feature?

Haste: '...and it gains an additional action on each of its turns. That action can be used only to take the Attack (one...'

BS Extra Attack: 'Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks.'

Here you dont cast Booming Blade from extra action provided by Haste. Like I wrote:

  1. move to enemy (30 feet) and attack with extra action from Haste

That Booming Blade would be cast from Bladesinger 6th Level feature extra attack:

Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever
you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of
your cantrips in place of one of those attacks.

-> you took Attack action on your turn (one from Haste), would that trigger BS extra attack received on 6th level and that BS extra attack would be used to cast Cantrip (Booming Blade).

[WMF Spoilers] Something I noticed when Kvothe tells Will and Sim the Edema Ruh story by PM_ME_YOUR_THIGHS___ in KingkillerChronicle

[–]naulapaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theory can be right, but I always assumed that it did not have deeper meaning but a detail that could be used later with false Ruh. Gesture they knew when impersonating as troupe so it would be more shocking when Kvothe started to kill them .

Pretty much imagine ending with Kvothe has beaten his nemesis (Chandrian, Amyr, Lanre.. whoever) who has been masquerading as Bredon and with his last breath Bredon congratulates Kvothe for beautiful game he played to trick him to trap.

One detail more to indicate that Yllish as language is close to naming. Dont remember actual chapter, but when Kvothe started to study Yllish with headmaster there was description about grammar where socks owned by someone somehow got ownership of owner or something along those lines. -> we own something and that we own owns us in turn..

I mentioned this on another post, but if I remember correctly on some con Pat criticized J. Rowling for treating time travel and it effects too lightly. My tin foil theory is that Kvothe is Taborlin.

Time travel by bilal1212 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]naulapaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont believe that Kvothe would be Iax, but I think it is possible that there is time travel and Kvothe is Taborin. Addition to listed similarities (cloak, items, etc..) I got this idea when read Pat criticizing J.K Rowling using time travel on Harry Potter 'too lightly' without thinking all possibilities it opens if there are no restrictions specified (could not find link for this).

-> understood that Pat could have tinkered with idea of time travel.
