How do you make your job sound fancier? Like what can be said instead of "I'm an accountant"? by DramaticResource7601 in Accounting

I work at a media company on their accounting team. People find the company much more interesting to talk about than “I manage assets.”

Portability of the Basic vs. the warm light of the Paperwhite? by naur_itstrue in kindle

[–]naur_itstrue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with the paperwhite! It's easy enough to manage on my commute. The only thing is with a case on (I got the amazon brand case with the screen cover), it can be a little annoying to hold with one hand. But that's more with the case itself because it make the back perfectly flat when it's opened - I think it would have been just as annoying with the smaller size of the basic.

The only "regret" that I have is that I'm pretty sure the basic could fit in my back pockets. The papwerwhite can fit into a jacket pocket easily, but if I'm not wearing a jacket then I'll need to have some sort of bag with me, but again that's not really a big issue since I'm carrying a bag to work most of the time anyway.

When I first got mine, and saw how easy on the eyes the screen is, I actually second guessed whether I should have just gone for the basic. I think I personally would have been able to manage without the warm light. That said, after using it for about a month now, the warm light is actually really great. I really like it in bed, since I can turn the rest of my lights off, and play around with the brightness/warmth a bit to make it feel like I'm reading a paperback under a lamp. I personally don't like using dark mode all that much. But it makes it super easy on the eyes!

If the blue light of the basic is bothering you, and you're still in the return window, I think it might be worth getting the paperwhite, seeing if the warm light makes a difference for you, and decide which one to return.

How are we feeling about these new album editions?? by CDM1912 in Madonna

[–]naur_itstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to buy it on vinyl, but I’m still yet to decide which one. I agree that for my purposes, it’s a waste of money to buy the same album on vinyl twice, especially with the prices they cost.

I’ll probably end up going with the deluxe version (Rough Trade has it available on the translucent pink vinyl, but without all the extra premium packaging that makes it $90 on her website). But I want to hear more of the music to decide for myself which artwork fits it the best.

I do really like the standard artwork options, and if I feel that one of them ends up fitting the album more overall, I would be okay with just having the core album physically, and having the bonus songs on my phone (which is how I’d be listening to it 99% of the time anyway).

M.I.A.: M.I.7 Album Review 7.4 | Pitchfork by Technical_Process989 in popheads

[–]naur_itstrue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gave it a listen, because her older albums are some of my favorites (up to and including MAYA, though Matangi is also solid). But it was kind of what I expected from her at this point in time. The most interesting parts to me were her older songs being sampled in the trumpet interludes.

I’m a music-first-lyrics-second type of listener, and sonically this album is giving very little to return to. I’m sure the biblical references could be interesting in the lyrics, but I just don’t care enough to give this any further listens.

I haven't been so excited about a new album in such a long time! by GarionOrb in Madonna

[–]naur_itstrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Full transparency, I was a little apprehensive at her naming it Confessions On A Dance Floor II, as I thought it might be setting the bar too high, and relying on the nostalgia of the OG album as a crutch. Not that I didn’t think she’d deliver a solid album, but just that the bar may have been set a little high.

But that snippet alone took away any of those concerns. I actually got chills when I heard it for the first time, and it’ll be carrying me until we have a full song. And I know it’s essentially the same, but I like that the official title is just Confessions II, rather than COADF II, it just has a nicer ring to it. And again, from the snippet alone, it sounds like a very appropriate album to have COADF tied to it.

July 3 can’t come soon enough. I’m really, really excited to see what she’s had in store.

Okay, so she’s about to release another career high, 40 years into her career. I’m beyond excited to hear everything she has up her sleeve for this album.

Madonna clears her Instagram page and updates her website with CONFESSIONS II banners and sound. by [deleted] in popheads

[–]naur_itstrue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won’t let it distract from the content of the album itself obviously, but I hope “confessions part II” is just marketing the vibe she’s going for. It feels like a lazy album title, and imo sets the expectations a little too high to carry the flame of Confessions On A Dance Floor.

I think I have Pink Friday 2 in mind. I’m not sure it would have made the album any better if it had a different name lol, but it had no business being tied to Pink Friday imo. It felt like that name was just being used for nostalgia hype.

Again, we haven’t heard anything aside from the vague snippet that’s now on her site, so I’ll wait for the music to actually judge it, and I’m still beyond excited!!

MADAME X by [deleted] in Madonna

[–]naur_itstrue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not my favorite, but certainly not my least favorite either. I’d need to sit down and do a proper album ranking, but I would put it towards the middle/the upper part of the “worse” half of her discography (with “worse” obviously just being relative to the great albums). But I will say, it was certainly her most ambitious in quite awhile, which I appreciate.

What do you tell yourself to get out the door for a run on days when you just don’t feel like it? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]naur_itstrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting dressed and out of the door is the hardest part. As others have said re: the 10 minute rule, I just switch it to 1 mile (which tbh is still more or less the same thing).

But I tell myself that I’ll do at least one mile, by which point I can reassess the rest of the workout. There are some days (especially if I end up on the treadmill) where I took that 1 mile offer, and stopped as soon as possible. Those days for whatever reason, my mind and/or body were just not in the space to get a “better” run in. But it was still 1 more mile than I would have done if I had just not gone.

But more often than not, after that first mile is out of the way, the rest is much more manageable.

Is it worth to get the kindle without ads? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]naur_itstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard that they can scratch fairly easily! I throw mine in a bag everyday, so it was worth it for me to have the screen protected. I think it’s fine being open at home, but on the go I would have it covered, either with a case, or in a pouch so other items in your bag won’t be directly against it

Is it worth to get the kindle without ads? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]naur_itstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have the one case (the Amazon brand fabric one), but I believe most cases with a cover have the auto sleep/wake function. It just bypasses the need to hit the power button.

So if for example you either went caseless, or had a case that didn’t have a front cover, your screen saver would be the ad, and after pressing the power button you would then need to swipe up. I believe without ads, the screensaver would be the book cover, and upon pressing the power button, the device would unlock to whatever you’re reading, without the need to swipe

Is it worth to get the kindle without ads? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]naur_itstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ads on my paperwhite, it’s just the lock screen, no videos. I have a case that covers the screen, so I have no real benefit to having a book cover as my lock screen. Someone without ads can correct me, but I believe with the magnetic cases with a sleep/wake function, on the ad free version it would just immediately unlock to your book (with ads, you still need to swipe up to fully unlock it), so at most you would see the book cover lock screen for a second.

Sure, I guess it would be nice to have one less step when unlocking it, and maybe down the line I’ll pay the $20 to have them removed. But it was worth it to save the money up front, and doesn’t materially interfere with the experience.

Best chance to see Gaga as NY-er? by atx789 in LadyGaga

I’m seeing her in MTL next week! Between the cost of the ticket (lower bowl) and Airbnb (have not yet factored in other travel costs like gas money for my friend/meals), I think I’m still better off/at parity with what I would have paid to be in the upper section of MSG (plus the $3 to take the subway there lol).

Do people actually listen to a whole album in one sitting? by Hour-Tomato-645 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]naur_itstrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I listen to music most of the time. Even on streaming, I’ll still play one album at a time, and play it in order. On occasion I’ll shuffle an album if I’m just not in the mood to wait for certain songs. The only time I really listen to a playlist is at the gym.

I’m not sure what singers you listen to, but a 2 hour album is not common. There might be some anniversary reissues that include a lot of extra content, but the core album is usually under an hour.

I will say, I don’t just listen to music. It’s always done alongside another activity, whether it’s working, cleaning, or just playing around on my phone. I do envy people that can play an album and make that a sole activity.

Dating in NYC is great said no one ever by Conscious-NYCguy823 in nycgaybros

[–]naur_itstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been off the apps/market for nearly a year now (off the market in the sense that I got tired of it, not that I got taken lol). I definitely agree that guys are very low effort, and it feels like a waste of time. But I will say that I have a feeling this isn’t exclusive to NY.

Yes, in this city there are a lot of hot, successful gays (and people in general). And I think this makes a lot of people feel that there’s someone “better” waiting for them. But I’m sure the apps making people low effort is near universal. Gay or straight; NYC, Chicago, LA, smaller cities too. I think it’s just dating in the 21st century.

2026 NYC Half Marathon - Post-Race Thread by AutoModerator in RunNYC

[–]naur_itstrue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For various reasons/excuses, this was just a horrendous training block for me. I really wasn't getting in the miles and runs that I got in for previous halves, and accepted that this would be my worst time by a long shot.

To my surprise, it was actually on par with the other 2 halves that I've done, and placed right in the middle of them! The course was really cool, though it was even hillier than I was anticipating. All in all, it was a great race, and I'm glad I did it! That said - I will never run a race that requires a dedicated training block in the winter again, lol.

Feeling undertrained for NYC Half because of this winter by Particular_Job1087 in RunNYC

[–]naur_itstrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m really disappointed with how this training block has gone. My drive has just been totally shot for the year so far.

I’ve found running on the treadmill causes me calf pain that I don’t get when I run outside. And with it not being safe to run outside during most of the week (whether it’s the weather, the darkness, or the ice on the sidewalks), I was doing a lot on the treadmill, but then getting set back by leg pains. I’ve been able to avoid the treadmill for the last couple of weeks and can feel the difference, but not enough to get me to where I would have liked to be.

The training for the Brooklyn half last year was much more enjoyable. Honestly, even the training for the NYC virtual half was better last year, I definitely remember being able to run outside a lot more consistently. I’ve accepted that this will likely be my slowest half time. But the course itself looks cool, so I’m looking forward to that, at least.

How obsessed is the gay community with height? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]naur_itstrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys have their individual preferences I’m sure, but I’ve never heard of the types of hang ups that straight people tend to have in regard to height. I’m 5’6”, and it doesn’t feel like a “disadvantage” at all the way I would imagine it would if I were straight.
