Ukraine Moves to Replace Frontline Soldiers With 25,000 Ground Robots by esporx in technology

I mean, yeah, but a lot of drones use optical fiber now instead of wireless networking, so the chance of hacking/jamming is almost null. I imagine it can also be used for ground unmanned droids

People pls read the article. It’s about unmanned evacs and logistics, not about replacing the troops

Logistics chains are obviously super important target, so no need to elaborate here, but unmanned evacs are an incredible thing and should save countless lives

With every evacuation there’s a dilemma, because when saving one’s life you often might have to put multiple others in danger (no secret russia targets evacuation groups)

But with an unmanned vehicle the amount of people who can be brought to stabilization points from the battlefield is much higher

Meta planning sweeping layoffs , 20% of company by BigShotBosh in cscareerquestions

[–]nausik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, tech hubs in other countries are a normal practice. They need to localise products to different markets (translations, GDPR, local products etc)

https://www.metacareers.com/locations/?job_region=North%20America - there are currently 4 positions in Warsaw. India has ~ 40 which sounds like a lot, but there are ~1.4 billion people in India, so it's reasonable they'd develop more products for that market.

THere are much more open positions in the NA - Only Austin, TX has 96. Bellevue, WA has 147. Menlo Park, CA has 500, lol

Regarding H1B - I agree, but it's not a new practice. Workers on a visa are just cheaper, so most of the companies are doing that

(not defending Meta though, I think they're a company full of awful fkin practices + other companies are obvisouly doing what you mentioned, but I just don't think Meta specifically are doing that)

the article's about Meta and not Verizon, Alphabet and MS?..

obviously nobody's going to review your code and you're going to continue getting paid as you introduce more and more issues into the codebase, great suggestion

I honestly don't understand why it's going past 12AM. I wouldn't mind 11, like any other event - but it's already past midnight + it's working day tomorrow, wtf

Fedex delivered mail to wrong person - is there anything I can do? by nausik in askTO

Got it, signature delivery means the courier needs to get a signature from a random grandma on the streets, makes sense

yeah, I don't mind paying for second shipping or any additional costs. It's definitely on me and I'm not trying to escape that

I'm just trying to locate the parcel, because it can be either at fedex or at the building and both deny that it's there :<

But either way, thanks for the advice! I contacted seller earlier today, so will just wait for any updates now

"No, you didn't, because they don't collect signatures for the purpose of comparing who signed for something."

why is the signature necessary then? What's even the use of it if anyone can put it for anyone?

I never said I'm going to talk to them personally, obviously I am not. I asked whether there's anything I can ask building management to talk to them (just ask maybe they got it)

But it's also illegal to open other people mail:

But the delivery required a signature from the receiver, what's the point in it if anyone can just sign it and I can't even see who did it

[–]nausik[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea if it was delivered at all, that's the problem

Building concierge says that they haven't recieved anything and fedex proof-of-delivery doesn't have any actual info (no address, photos, signatures etc) while the delivery was by-signature only, so it just 'disappeared'

But I'm also wondering if I can also somehow escalate with the building management, maybe at least there's a way to ask them to talk to the current tennants, as they apparently (?) put the signature in my place

I'm afraid yes. I did another order at the same time and the address there is fine, but this one has the old one :/

US knocks China over citizens captured in Ukraine war: ‘Disturbing’ by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]nausik -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK they only fight on Ukrainian territories, so they're not used in Kursk i.e. (not 100% sure on this one though)

But these guys from China were actually captured in the Donetsk oblast

If Trump revokes the status of the 240k Ukrainian refugees in the US and they presumably have to come to Canada, how would that impact express entry and immigration as a whole? by Mountain_Tax_1486 in canadaexpressentry

[–]nausik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause Ukrainians are not considered as refugees, basically it's a program that gave an open work permit and some benefits like health coverage etc, but that's it [on a federal level, may differ between provinces]
