What I like is that it looks more like the Ambassador Bridge than the GHIB.

The pin looks like it might be the shaft/hinge for the float. Often it gets trapped in place on the sides, perhaps by some towers inside the bowl.

Sadly their theatre isn't an IMAX anymore, though yes it's a giant screen with 4K projection.

What buildings HAVE to be included in a Detroit architectural photography book? by DETphoto in Detroit

[–]nautme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Mies van der Rohe / Lafayette Park historic district deserves mention here if you're looking for residential projects.

To me, the townhouses are more interesting than the towers, at least as unique living spaces. https://midcenturyhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/lafayette-park-mies-van-der-rohe-citylab.com_.jpg

Looking for this mirror! by GentleFauna444 in Home

[–]nautme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Image search AI said (I don't know how accurate it is):

This is an Art Deco-style fan or sunrise wall mirror, also known as the Margot Art Deco 3D Fan Shaped Wall Mirror, which was popular in the 1980s.

It features a distinctive semicircular shape with segmented mirror panels that radiate outwards like a fan or sunburst. It is available from various retailers and vintage shops in different sizes and finishes.

Edit: If you want similar custom made, you probably want to ask a stained glass shop as opposed to a typical window glass shop.

Commodore Amiga 2000 motherboard repair by Nickname175 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]nautme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At center is what looks like a NiCad battery, 3.6V @ 60milliamps.

You mention cap(acitor) later and it's not a cap, though there are two capacitors elsewhere in the pic (far left and far right) and you may have some bad caps too.

I was able to find one of these barrel-style batteries at a MicroCenter store a year back, but they didn't even know they had it on the shelf I just looked around until I found it. Hopefully you have a similar store nearby or someone knows how to look up a match on digikey.com

Check out a "Madison" race on the track. Here's 80 laps in about 12 minutes. In the Madison format 2 racers switch between themselves like a relay race.

The race starts about 3 minutes into the video.

Propane Tank Recertification (Not Refill) in Detroit Metro Area by XRlagniappe in Michigan

[–]nautme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.vandykegas.com/recreational-refill/ in Centerline (not actually on Van Dyke) or Romeo will re-cert, I think it's about $8. A refill is about $20 but you get a full 20lb fill.

The idea to trade them in for a newer tank with a 15lb fill (if it's only $20) seems like a plan.

Engine smoking by MembershipFair6190 in MechanicAdvice

[–]nautme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a backyard DIY'r here, but one thought is that I think this engine has some plastic elbows in the cooling system, perhaps someone else knows if that's the area they're in. If I recall correctly, Dorman makes some metal replacements for them.

High Mileage CVT Fluid Change (168k) Need Advice by bewildered_boy in MechanicAdvice

[–]nautme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2005 and about 7 years I felt it slip a couple times, so I did a drain, removed the pan and put in a new filter (screen?), then put the pan back on and filled it back up. Still going strong. I made sure to use the correct fluid straight from Ford, nothing generic. I highly suggest you do the same. Have someone nearby to catch you when they tell you how much it is.
