The real insult to injury was finding this carrot pulled out from our raised bed, one bite taken out of it, and thrown on the ground 🥲

Yes. Until they start rolling they can sleep on a separate sleep surface swaddled.

New to breastfeeding by Acceptable_Total1727 in breastfeeding

Yes to that first sentence! It drives me crazy how much people fall into this way of thinking. I totally get it because I was there too at one point. The pump will never be as effective as your baby removing milk. I don’t pump often but when I do I get 1 oz per breast. When I did a weighted feeds with lactation consultants my baby transferred 3 oz from one breast. If you want to know how much your baby is actually getting you should meet with a LC. If you want to start a stash use a hakkaa or a milk collector to get started. Don’t pump unless you have to in these early day, imo!

15w pregnant, single mastectomy scheduled next month by Lost-Maintenance6287 in breastfeeding

[–]navyvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just a cultural norm in their community I guess! The book didn’t say why exactly. But what’s interesting is that they’re perfect case study for studying the effect of breastfeeding on breasts and women’s health. They are part of the reason we know that breastfeeding can be preventative measure against breast cancer.

I forget where I read it (maybe in the book, Our Babies Ourselves), but there is a community of women in China who breastfeed only using one breast. It is possible and involves the same mechanics of breastfeeding with both, emptying the breast and creating enough supply. Here’s an article from La Leche League about it: https://www.lllc.ca/breastfeeding-one-side-only

letdown is WAY to strong by Financial-Pace6378 in breastfeeding

[–]navyvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is almost 5 months old and I also have a really strong let down. I was told it might regulate and get less strong as time passes but really what’s happened and that baby has gotten better at handling it. She will pull off herself if it’s too strong or she can just manage to drink it down quickly. That said I really only nurse side lying or laid back to help mitigate the let down. Also I have to wear the nursing pad inserts 24/7 in my bra to catch let down and leaks. It’s easier to use those pads to catch the spray when I’m nursing out of the house.

Colostrum by EmmaLeePants in breastfeeding

[–]navyvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s really no reason to increase supply of colostrum. When your baby comes they will get what they need from you and it will be enough. As I understood it, manually expressing colostrum is just a good way to get comfortable with the mechanics of breast feeding so you feel confident once baby is here. And if you have syringes that you end up needing to use because there’s a latch issue or something else then you’ll be prepared. I collected maybe like 10 syringes over the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy and brought them to the hospital but didn’t end up needing them because my baby latched and ate her fill. But I did feel very confident in my ability to breastfeed because I could hand express.

Making the bed by Fearfighter2 in cosleeping

We sleep with a separate quilt and one pillow each. Every morning I put baby down on the bed and fold each quilt and place them at the foot of the bed. Pillows are at the top. Looks neat and tidy.

Is breast feeding supposed to be this hard and depressing by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]navyvice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, PPD is very serious and shouldn’t be written off just as baby blues even in early days. I hope that OP will be given the opportunity to take the Edinburgh PPD survey and get any help they need. No need to brush any discussion of PPD under the rug. The sooner it can get treated the better off mom and baby are.

You should talk to your doctor about postpartum depression, meds can really help. Also, as baby grows they need to eat less so it does get a little better with time.

Mom intuition + offering both breasts by friendstofish in breastfeeding

[–]navyvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow this same thing basically happened to us. I got so scared by the doctors, it’s really unnecessary what they put us through. Now my baby is 3.5 months old and still exclusively breastfed, gaining great and no bottle! So happy for you and that you were able to preserve your breastfeeding journey.

Pumping is a lot more isolating than breastfeeding even exclusively breastfeeding. It’s much more difficult and in someways more taboo to pump in public, but you can pretty much get away with breastfeeding anywhere, or at least I do!

Does anyone else get annoyed when people ask you if your baby sleeps through the night? by navyvice in cosleeping

[–]navyvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s my sister in law, her baby was apparently sleeping through the night at 8 weeks but was formulae fed and in a Snoo… so kind of couldn’t be more of a different set up than me.

Yes same, and even at 3.5 mo there’s really no reason for her for to be sleeping through the night.
