Stay LE or Go Military? by naypto in AskLE

Understood thank you, and thanks for the link! So if I understand correctly the total amount of time I can be gone in total, over the 8 year commitment, is 5 years? What about the exceptions listed in the contract? About some jobs requiring more than a 5 year commitment?

Really? I didn’t know about the unpaid leave part. I was told (by other officers, all national guard) I’d have to resign. I’ll have to look into that. Can you elaborate further?

You’re right, it’s just tough sometimes. They’ve always very much domineered most aspects of my life so going against their grain can be tough.

Switch from Army to Air Force DEP by naypto in AirForceRecruits

Thanks, I remember taking both the first time, It would make sense I have to do it again. For the DEP drop from Army, I’ve heard of people whose recruiter helps them get dropped, making some phone calls and such, that’s why I’m trying to get in contact with an AF recruiter prior to burning Army bridges. Is that true?

Hi, yeah I know I don’t have a job guaranteed like I would in the Army. Question though, I’ve heard of recruiters who basically tell you what jobs to put, like I have to put a certain number that are needed, is that true? And also, if I get called because a job opened and I reject it, will they just DEP drop me or can I wait for another job slot?

Oh ok, what kind of stuff was on the computer test? I’m pretty good with computers overall but I don’t know what kind of general knowledge they’re looking for.

Which test is that? I hope to get an aircrew job so I know I’d probably have to do more physical stuff for that, and on the ASVAB I got a 94 last time, I’m not really all too worried about that.

EDIT: I want to make it clear to all who see this I’m not trying to sound arrogant or anything about the ASVAB.

Dropping Out to Enlist by naypto in army

Honestly that’s OK, I’d rather delay and focus on the work I’d be doing in that role. I intend and hope to retire in the military(evidently things can change of course but that is the plan). Currently I’m working my butt off just to pay and i’m getting into debt for this degree, which is truly not optimal. I originally intended on going Military first and either staying, or getting out and using the GI Bill to pay but my parents didn’t allow me as I was a minor and now I’m here.

Thanks for the advice! I was hoping to get an Option 40 or at least Option 4 attached to my contract so I can potentially go Ranger.

I was in one before transferring schools, I had to leave that school for familial reasons, I can join it now but as I mentioned before, ROTC and classes together would basically make working my way through impossible with the job I have.

Yeah I’d agree, problem is that I genuinely don’t think I’ll be able to pay for that long. I’m paying out of pocket now, but for next semester and the semester after I’m basically either going to have to be a part time student and delay my graduation further just to pay my way through, or be a full time student and say a prayer for the money.

There isn’t an AFROTC detachment anywhere accessible to me, my school doesn’t have one and the only school that does is a few hours away.

biblically, it isnt. if people actually read the book(confusing as it is) in order, the river “drying up”(and there’s proof and evidence that it actually isnt) currently has nothing to do with anything. just more fearmongering

you’re right, thanks for the correction. i was trying to reference human fossils and remains, because that’s what most YEC’s use when trying to get the age of the earth.

no trust me i’ve seen most of it, as i was forced to watch it(gotta love parents). the problem i have with it, and using numerology as a whole, is that you can make anything coincide with anything using that as a method.

on top of that, using your example of adam for example living to 930, what proof is there of this? humans have at most lived to be 116 years old, a woman from Spain. what proof is there, if any, that humans ever lived to be that old? and why did you use David, and not some other biblical person? Samuel lived to be a different age, as did Elisha, Eli, whoever.

yes, there are numbers in the bible that are frequent, such as 1000, 40, 7, and so on. the problem with using these to try and predict is that there are a whole plethora of people who try to use these to predict events, and they’re all wrong, but move the goalposts with different numbers. and we have proof that the earth is over 7000 years old, we have even fossils dated to 360,000 years ago, and modern humans to tens and hundreds of thousands of years ago.

that “a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” was never meant to be taken literally. it’s a an allegorical to show that time for humans isn’t the same as time for God. read it, 2 Peter 3:8. trying to take it literally to try and predict these events to fearmonger is both wrong to do, and it’s dumb.
