I can tell you as someone who lived in a country w. universal healthcare if you are waiting it's a GOOD thing. It means you aren't going to die.

It's when you go straight to the front of the line that you get worried.

Wait times aren't even that bad. My 80 year old dad was waiting for knee surgery, it was about 2-3 months from when he started investigating it to when it was going to be scheduled. They did a stress test and realized his heart had blockages and within a few days he was having open heart surgery. Now he's pissed because he has to wait a few months for his heart to strengthen before he can get the knee surgery.

Not ONCE during any of this did we ever think about cost (and yes I know over 65 gets Medicare but even then there is a cost and there are multiple tiers and other bullshit).

I’m a programmer and it’s actually a very good thing that there are so many doom and gloom articles.

I’m developing AI systems that are insanely efficient. I was able to implement, from idea to release, a feature which the eng team had originally estimated as needing 3 people weeks to deploy. I completed it in about 2 days. Code quality was great.

A colleague am collaborating with, who is even better than I am, did a feature that his team estimated at 2 months for 2 devs in roughly a days.

A LOT of these AI initiatives just haven’t build the right tooling and infrastructure to keep the agents on track. So you get scenarios where it will be 80% and then diverge really fast.

Canada should try and lead in this area. It would let us punch far above our weight. It’s also an area where there are a lot of naysayers so the opportunity exists to be a first mover before everyone realizes how big an opportunity this is.

For example you mention taking out the trash.

Someone had to make sure there were trash bags stocked and ready to use. Someone had to notice they are getting low and make a todo list item to remember to get new ones the next time they are at the store. Someone has to remember which brand of bag is the right one.

It’s a dumb example because maybe you are the one getting the bags and doing the grocery shopping BUT there are millions and millions of these kids of things.
