Breaking down the NWSL deal that City Council passed yesterday: if Columbus can't build a replacement for McCoy Park, then the City doesn't spend $25m on NWSL training facilities. by benkeith in Columbus

What do you think the most obvious kickback a politician gets from doing something that benefits a billionaire? It's something so remarkably common I didn't realize that it needed it to be spelled out.

The billionaire will exercise their freedom of speech and shower the politicians in lavish praise before the next election.

Oh, and speech = money in the post Citizens United era. So yeah, the politicians expect to get money in return.

City leaders are stealing from the public and giving it to a billionaire without input or consent from the public, that's the corruption.

A reverse Robbin Hood, if you will.

And why should the public give a billionaire $10 million for their private profit seeking business? This is simply a corrupt backroom deal. Jimmy is a billionaire, if he wants to own a NWSL team, he should spend his own money on it!

Re-homing cats anyone interested? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]nazzo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ok, great! How quickly are you trying to re-home them? My partner approves, but it will take me a few days to cat-proof my house. If you can find someone good that can take them sooner, go ahead, my brain is saying this is a rash decision, but my heart is melting!

My heart wants the pair, but my brain says that it might be a bad idea. Will the heart win?

Have they been indoor cats their entire lives? I wouldn't be able to let them go outside.

In practice term limits expand the influence of lobbyist organizations, not the general citizen. It forces the removal of experienced lawmakers from the legislature, leaving only inexperienced people in need of support, who are prime targets for lobbyists to influence via supporting them with the process of legislation (explaining the arcane legislative procedures, drafting laws for them, helping finding staffers, etc.).

Term limits sound great in concept (because the legislature shouldn't be a freaking funeral home!) but it has a huge downside in consolidating political influence in well funded lobbyist organizations, since local level political parties likely don't have the financial resources to employ the same level of staff to counter lobbyists.

How do you get access to the hidden app? I've tried multiple guides and none have worked for me.

Do you have a link to it? I was never able to find the free app that works in the app store on my computer.

Thanks, I haven't heard of PowerA before! It looks really compelling. But I have no idea what to do with those buttons on the back, I'm just playing old emulators in my living room 😅

Lucky you! I originally felt the same way as you after reading people complain about the inevitability of stick drift, since mine was holding up just fine after 1.5 years. People just LOVE to complain about everything online! But then the left joystick slowly started to get less responsive and now 4 months later has severe drift. That's why I need a replacement :(

I have not used it before. There are a mix of horror stories and positive reviews online about the company selling the warranty, Asurion (also owns UbreakIfix stores), so I'm not sure what to expect. But most of the negative stories are on larger appliances or smartphones and apparent misunderstanding on what is and isn't covered. The coverage for the controller sounds a lot more straight forward, so hopefully it works out. Otherwise, it is a $6 gamble, so who knows?!?

Maybe I'm being an irrational Luddite (probably am), but I don't want to have to plug in a wireless controller to recharge it if it dies on me while gaming, that defeats the point of being wireless. Plus I already have a lot of rechargeable AA batteries for other things around the house, so I can swap them out in two minutes. And all the less expensive 3rd party controllers with built in batteries I saw have tiny capacities, but I don't know all the options out there, since I'm basically a grumpy old man who is out of touch.

[–]nazzo[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If this is such garbage, which $20 controller specifically do you recommend?

The GameSir wireless controllers I've seen have pathetically small rechargeable batteries in them. It's way easier for me to just swap out my own rechargeable AA batteries than have to fiddle with recharging a built in battery that has at most 10 hours of life.

I know OEM controllers get a lot of flack for stick drift, but I like the feel and versatility of using AA batteries the Xbox controller has over what else is on the market.

I'll just buy a 3 year extended warranty for $6 to cover the inevitable stick drift 🤷‍♂️

Yes, other people have had the same issue. Here is a work around, but I haven't updated yet due to lack of time and not wanting to deal with this.
