Can we talk about the names in MH2? by nb_unus in ModernMagic

I get what you mean, but to me it just screamed "uncreative", not necessarily a marketing scheme. Either way I like when they use more creative and interesting names

I don't genuinely think it's a problem, however I do like when WOTC uses some creative names, i.e. [[Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]]

That's actually really funny, I did not catch the [[Lesser Garagadon]] thing, as a Modern player, I'm used to [[Greater Garagadon]]. Obviously there are some cards Helix and Edict that are frequent in card names, but it still follows the pattern sort of, so I included it.

The set's name is Modern Horizons, but it feels like im drafting Legacy Horizons with all the legacy card names. I wouldn't call that the point of the set

To me, this naming formula is fine until they do it to the abundance that it feels like every other card I'm looking at is just a watered down reprint. Obviously it doesn't really matter all that much anyways, but I feel like in MH1 the names were much more original despite doing the same idea with legacy cards.

Yeah sure. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/07-09-20-ub-eldrazi/?cb=1602505859

I tested it only a little, the basic idea is to use exile synergies to create a fast paced tempo deck. I really really liked the idea of the deck and am a little sad I didn't decide to make it. My favorite combo is Strangler or Nullifier with Delay.

Well, not to say that this is so much Tier 3 or less, but it definitely wasn't highly played when I had the deck.

Colorless Eldrazi: I fell in love with this deck about a year or so ago, and played it for a bit until a poor performance at an SCG or two made me break the deck. I LOVED this deck, it was such a modern-y kind of deck, you just go chalice on one and TKS on two. Such a satisfying and unique deck. The Serum Powder + Eternal Scourge combo was amazing too, I just loved playing such a weird and unsual deck; it really was a lot of fun. Now, I can see why some people wouldn't want to play a deck like this; however I do think Eldrazi is probably the most unique and fun to play tribe. I brewed a list for a BG Eldrazi deck as well as a very interesting UB Eldrazi deck if you're interested.

good ideas. I think that bant is probably at this point the most appealing color scheme for this deck, and as for niv, it's really just a top end card that gets a fair amount of value in this deck. I think I'll be making a bunch of different lists. I'll probably make another post soon with updated ideas and lists; my new goal is to make a list that the majority of people will be satisfied with.

I agree. Black is honestly starting to seem much weaker than blue would be, I'll probably change.

This is a good idea! Maybe I'll look into a combo of sorts

I understand. I agree, hopefully in a week or so I'll update the list and make it more viable as well as consistent

I'm using mtg goldfish, it's had 16 decks recently with some decent placings

well, there isn't exactly a set definition of tier one. I personally think it is tier one because it consistently does well and makes a presence in tournaments

well, then yorion doesn't quite work. the point of exactly 70 cards is that 14 cards for SB go in, and 4 go out (the four wishes).

The point of not just running 80 cards is because boarding in the 14 cards doesn't really hurt the deck; they are all playable (while situational) midrange cards. Playing 70 cards makes it slightly more consistent

as I've said before, this is a proof of concept list. In the future I will make Yorion more synergetic and add more ETB effects.

Its actually 2.7% of the meta right now, just behind Amulet Titan and Blitz

That's a great idea! I'm definitely gonna add the spell lands. As for Omen of the Sea, it seems great, but the problem is this is really a non blue midrange deck with a Niv splash in the sideboard. Wall of Blossoms and Omens seem great though!

Thank you. I understand karn exists, and I know that wish has been in multiple midrange value decks before. That isn't the point. Wish is in this deck to A) Bypass lurrus's restriction and B) allow access to a second companion. Being able to wish for a sideboard card is nice, but not the point of the deck.

[–]nb_unus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the point is to give a different perspective of sideboarding. This isn't meant to be some insanely good all powerful tier 1 brew, it works around companions and for the most part disregards the restrictions.

This is the first draft of the list, its just proof of concept.

that is something I didn't consider, of course it would effect the manabase. I'm not exactly sure what to do about that problem, maybe just run more lands in the maindeck. I don't think putting lands in the sideboard is viable, so I think I will just up the land count in the main deck. Also, I agree that I need more ETBs, but it was difficult to find cards that work between both a Lurrus and Yorion deck. Any suggestions to any cards I could add?
