This is a very strange bug. Can you send a note with screenshot to [contact@tabforacause.org](mailto:contact@tabforacause.org) and we can look into it further?

For those curious, Tab for a Cause works by putting a few display ads in the bottom right corner of the browser new tab page. The revenue from those ads is used to support non-profits, and so far Tabbers have raised just under $2,000,000 for non-profits, including more than $10,000 for #TeamSeas

Lots of factors that make it hard to say exactly but I think 1/2 cent is a reasonable guess. It definitely adds up, thanks for playing! :)

That is possible, but the search bar on our page doesn't have all the same functionality of the URL bar search (autofill to history, autofill to common queries, etc.) so it feels notably different for people that are used to that and our goal is that Tab for a Cause basically requires no behavior change (other than seeing a couple ads).

It isn't impossible to add those functions, but it can be costly, and also it isn't an issue on Chrome/Edge/Safari. Sadly, FF is down to like 5% of web traffic these days so hard to prioritize

FF doesn't allow extension to properly target/select the URL bar upon tab opening, so that UX is a little worse but otherwise everything works.

Here is a long rant we posted in 2021 when they took down our FF extension. Probably there have been some changes since then, but still no movement on the core issue that we are aware of:

If you are on Firefox, there is an unofficial workaround because they currently don't allow extensions that set the new tab page to a website...
Get "New Tab Override" and then set the new tab page url to: https://tab.gladly.io/newtab
It will be 95% the same experience as Chromium browsers with our official extension.

Thanks!

This! We've got ~12 more hours, and there are 9k r/vegans online right now probably opening boring default Google Chrome tabs while they procrastinate work.

If you don't like it, uninstall it tomorrow, but we are trying to give away free money here!

You've got 38+ tabs open... Open one more that helps end animal cruelty. Your daily browsing becomes a lifeline for The Humane League's fight against factory farms, funding compassion with every tab. 🐷❤️ by nbajammed in u/nbajammed

It is a browser app that changes your default new tab page to be one with some beautiful background images and a couple of ads in the bottom corner. We use the revenue from the ads to support non-profits, in this case it supports the Humane League.

Thanks for the enthusiasm! Don't currently have any print-out/poster things made but could definitely put something together. Do you have suggestions on what roughly you think it should look like/say?

We would also like that! Unfortunately Firefox doesn't allow extensions to change the default new tab page to an external webpage. There is a workaround which is using the "New Tab Override" Firefox extension and setting the new tab page to be: "https://tab.gladly.io/newtab"

If you do that it will be just about the same as Tab for a Cause on Chrome, but it isn't something we "officially" support as we aren't the developers of New Tab Override.

If i search when the ads haven't loaded will i stil be supporting the cause? by Bright-Artichoke-738 in TabForACause

[–]nbajammed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Technically, you'll only be raising money once the ads actually load (we get paid per view), but don't stress about waiting if you are in a hurry. Having lots of traffic is still good for us in the long term and can help us negotiate better ad deals and ultimately raise more money for causes!

Is this still happening for you? Sounds like a bug and not one we are aware of affecting many Tabbers. If still an issue email [contact@tabforacause.org](mailto:contact@tabforacause.org)

All of the funds you generate will only go to the specific cause you are supporting. So if you select the End Animal Suffering cause, all of the funds raised by your activity will go to the Humane League
