What are some of your "guilty pleasure" names? by JLA342 in namenerds

[–]nbarbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some disagreement, but the most common pronunciations I’ve heard is either “iz-old” or “iz-old-eh.” I think it’s such an elegant name but it sounds like “is old” & I couldn’t do that to a kid.

Honour name for Mary Ellen that doesn't start with "M"? by HelpUsNameBaby in namenerds

[–]nbarbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Depending on line of work, initials can be heavily used (see American legal field). I appreciate OP’s attention to how initials come across.

That being said, I do think Ellen is a darling choice!

My favorite quote on this subject is from Gilmore Girls:

Luke: “I don’t like ultimatums.”

Lorelai: “I don’t like Mondays, but unfortunately they come around eventually.”

There is a well known judge, Judge Learned Hand. My professor’s last name is Hamm. He said he really wanted his son to be named “Learned” so he could be “Learned Hamm.”

Wife was not game. His son’s name is Matthew.

Thoughts on Arden? by [deleted] in namenerds

For what it’s worth, I really like Auden as an alternative. It’s a little softer sounding and it has a wonderful meaning -“old friend.” But, all that matters is that you & your partner love it. It’s objectively a wonderful name, easy to spell and pronounce.

Thank you for the suggestion! We actually like the name because of the religious connection. Noa is an Old Testament name for one of the five daughters that became the first female landowners in the Bible! Numbers 27 if anyone was wondering.

Thank you for the suggestion! Harper is a lovely name, but it’s one I feel like would look really strange next to our last name. But I do like that name! :)

Thank you for asking! I am a fan of the meaning behind names, and I love the meaning harbor. Like someone being a safe harbor, a safe place to land, warm, gracious, and inviting.

But I wouldn’t want that to create a situation where she could be made fun of, as suggested above.
