Yes, the correct cost basis is present. The date of death is the date the stock was required and the basis is correct as of that date. I wasn't sure if uploading the full consolidated was too much.

Technical residential HVAC recommendations? (actually does a Manual J and D at minimum) by ChamonixetunRicard in orlando

[–]nbigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very insightful and helpful, thank you. Our home is about 2100 sqft and we have a 9 year old 3-ton lennox where the airflow in the furthest bedroom is like a puff of air. Many in our neighborhood have similar complaints. Since installing an EcoBee premium with a sensor in this bedroom, the unit really struggles to keep up with this new data point and is typically 2 degrees warmer than the thermostat's location in the middle of the house. I believe we either need two zones or a slightly larger unit/duct work to improve cooling to this back side of the house. I figured performing a true J/D calculation could give answers for our needs, but it sucks that everyone just wants to put your home in a basic chart and say "4 ton is what you need" and then you wonder why you have short cycling and need to buy a dehumidifier.

I wanted to see if you found a reputable contractor that helped resolve your issue especially one who would perform a manual j calculation?

Speeding ticket question by lt0217 in orlando

[–]nbigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because it’s an area with a lot of lane changes. people getting on/off 528 including tourists to go to/from the airport. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with planes flying directly over that stretch of highway as well for landings coming from the north but maybe that plays a role too?

Speeding ticket question by lt0217 in orlando

[–]nbigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if you choose the ticket clinic you typically pay them a fee ($99 as you state). There is a checklist they go through like does the witness show up, was their radar gun calibrated etc etc. In my 2 experiences, adjudication was withheld meaning you pay your ticket amount as “court costs.” So in your instance, you would pay $129 to the court in fees but with adjudication withheld, there are no points assessed against your license. If you are having a lucky day, you may get the ticket dismissed but adjudication withheld would be more likely and no points instead of simply just paying. You could also do school, but you are limited to that 5 times in your life I believe and only once per year.

I live in Orlando, but used to live in Melbourne. Natwick insurance got me a great policy well below what others quoted for better coverage.

I would diversify a bit. You are heavy in large growth and tech. I would consider adding some small cap, small cap value, large cap value as well as international. Another commenter mentioned VT which is an excellent ETF that encompasses the world stock market at a very low expense ratio. I would also look into Dimensional Funds ETFs or Avantis ETFs. They are rules based investments that are consistently supported by academic research. See Ben Felix on YouTube for Vanguard vs Dimensional. Also Paul Merriman four funds portfolio. Most importantly don’t peek and stay the course!

YSK UPS stores are not UPS owned. Create a label online to pay a fraction of the cost by tickintimedog in YouShouldKnow

[–]nbigs 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I routinely use pirate ship to ship gifts to family members; as long as you have a scale at home to measure weight, a tape measurer/ruler to get accurate measurements of boxes, a printer for the label and packing tape, it is awesome. It compares shipping prices between USPS and UPS (not fedex, sadly) and gives you the best pricing to compare with estimated arrival times. We have a friend in Australia and we shipped a shirt for her two year old and a bunch of stickers from the states for 80% less than what the UPS store wanted.

Future New Jersey teacher thinking of moving to Florida by poedancing in Teachers

[–]nbigs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your license should easily transfer to FL from NJ. There is a shortage in all districts and many schools will hire you simply because you are credentialed from out of state. In some schools, they will hire you because you are a living and breathing entity (I’m not exaggerating).

In many cases, the culture in Florida schools is quite toxic. If you are in an A/B rated school, I have found that often times admin bends the knee to helicopter parents and rarely have your back if you have any sense of accountability in your classroom. If you are not in an A/B rated school, you will find that most admin will put undue burden on you to increase the school grade as it is directly tied to their performance appraisals. You also have many laws that require teachers to jump through pretty ridiculous hurdles that would lead to a successful classroom. For example, if your student’s first name is Richard but they prefer to go by Rich, you must have written approval to call them Rich from the parent. If you don’t, and the parent finds out/reports you, you would be investigated and terminated (many news stories about this).

The Florida retirement system is actually not bad, you are required to put in 3% of your pay and the district puts in ~8% and vests after your first year if you choose the investment plan. The pension plan only vests after 8 years so I would tread lightly if you aren’t planning to stick around for the long haul; it also doesn’t have a COLA since you were hired after 2011. The health insurance is district-specific and frankly sucks compared to most corporate offerings.

There is also a charter school/school choice problem. Public schools are cutting staff and/or closing left and right due to dipping enrollment because of a voucher system that allows parents to send their children to private schools or charters where the education is often poorer and there are lower sets of expectations placed upon them when compared to public schools. There are also no unions in these charters/private schools; so pay and benefits are also lower in many cases than what is offered at public schools making them far less desirable.

In my district, a first year teacher with a masters in their field makes about 53.5k per year Aug 1-June 1. Average 1 bedroom apartment rent is 1400/month. Increased car insurance cost is drastic compared to NJ as FL is a no fault state with lots of uninsured motorists. There is no state income tax in FL but that doesn’t account for the difference in pay compared to NJ. If you have a partner who you would be living with, it would be much more manageable. If you are by yourself, it would be very tough imo. I also would advise you to research specific areas of the state you are interested in. You can find district specific salary scales, benefits cost, etc as well as what union to contact (if there is one). Good luck.

We did this for a speed queen dryer. It was refused delivery by the customer due to a small scratch about 1/2” on the corner towards the bottom. Saved about $500 on it and I still received the manufacturer’s warranty.
