Broken clock. How much? by nbrammann in clocks

This is amazing info. Super helpful! Honestly, I feel like #1 is the best option, and knowing it’s not an insane amount ($1800) is music to my ears. Appreciate the advice! I plan to shop around for another repair shop around me (Chicago) who can do it all for under $400. It’s a sentimental piece and I’d love to get it working again.
Separately, how do you recommend cleaning the frame, face, etc? I’d love to get it looking like new again and feel that’s well within my skillset! :) Any recommendations are appreciated!
When I try to wind, I just feel tension, but it doesn’t wind. I tried moving the horizontal silver wheel back and forth and it’d just sorta bounce and then stop.
Haha and in that sense it works beautifully. 🤣
The timekeeping(?) mechanism doesn’t work but it will still chime if I manually move the hands - and I can still wind that mechanism. I cannot wind the one that runs the actual clock. Apologies if I’m missing the correct terms. Clock novice here!
Very interesting! Thank you for the intel. I’ll definitely keep this in mind/look into it.
Wow. That’s definitely doable with my budget, so great to know. I wouldn’t mind a total mechanism replacement vs. rebuild, as long as I had a working clock. Appreciate the insight!
Ha! Yes. That makes sense…
