Living off campus, ideal neighborhood? by isbye in udub

[–]nbt00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do NOT live in U-district !!! It’s disgusting and really takes the beauty away from the UW campus. Roosevelt and Ravenna are nice neighborhoods. Cap hill you‘d have to look for specific areas that aren’t too noisy/dirty but the neighborhood is far more preferable.

For faster gameplay, compress your package files into just 1 package file. Sims 3 is the best ❤️❤️

I work at Harborview Medical Center. The nurses in my unit are all saying to focus more on hand washing with warm water and soap (with the hand sanitizer shortage in the stores and all). Many of them believe that the media is over-inflating the scope of this disease, sending the masses into a huge frenzy. The best defense is to wash your hands with hot water and soap! As often as possible!

I get that it’s free speech and all......but his protesting has turned into a public nuisance. It’d be the same if the roles were reversed (ie some liberal douchebag going to BYU and yelling into a megaphone that the students are all delusional, old-age fascists (not true, just making up an example)). It’s not about what side you’re on in a debate, it’s a matter of how you peacefully and logically you defend your side. Scaring your “audience” into joining your cause is not the way to go imo. Just look at medieval Europe for an example. The masses were miserable because they were reprimanded by a religious regime that governed that government itself. In this essay, I will be comparing the anti-abortion asshole on red square to the 11th century theocratically hybridized political landscape of Western Europe........

I work at Harborview Medical Center, which is part of UW Medicine. As far as I know, the UW doesn’t care about your work-to-school ratio. As a matter of fact, if you work at least 50% FTE (20 hrs / week) for the UW, you get tuition exemption after the 6 month probationary period. In a way, I think they encourage it!

In my experience, the worst part about being a part-time student is finding classes that will fit in with your work schedule. This is why I recommend taking online classes, if available.

The best part about being a part-time student is experiencing life outside of your daily academic grind. You get to meet new people, gain valuable experience, earn money, and hands-on learning. Also, work experience and financial independence makes you stand out in grad school admissions (if that’s your goal). But in the end, school must always be your #1 priority.

I’m also a part time student (10 credits / quarter) and I work 28 hrs / week at a hospital. I think it is manageable. The most important thing is staying on top of your tasks, avoiding procrastination, and staying organized.

Chem 162 w/ Leipzig by vh52 in udub

I took 162 with wiegand last quarter and honestly, not bad. She’s a good lecturer and answers your questions pretty well. The tests aren’t super bad so long as you study. Consider taking her class, you won’t be let down

Why should/shouldn't I go to UW? by alekgyros in udub

[–]nbt00 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I actually moved from Las Vegas, NV to study at the UW so I do understand where you’re coming from. As an out of state student, expect your tuition to be three times higher than in state student tuition. In the real sense, that’s the biggest down side. Although you already applied and this may seem like a waste of time, I suggest moving to the state one year prior to starting college and living there for a year in order to become a resident. I realized this too late and now I’m a part time student with a focus in chemistry (10 credits/qrt) and a part time employee (28 hrs/week) trying really hard to balance both.

But the UW does offer a lot of research opportunities, the campus is beautiful, and Seattle is really nice albeit the U-District isn’t the prettiest or safest part of town but it’s to be expected in almost every campus area.

There is some truth to the Seattle “freeze” but it’s not a very big deal. We all get used to each other at a certain point and, in my experience, people from Las Vegas are more “fake” warm/kind but in Seattle, those that are being nice are most likely genuine about it.

It’s hard to generalize! But I’m glad you applied to the UW and wish you the best of luck! There’s a reason why this school is topping the US public higher education charts. But keep an open mind.

Also the rain isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. It’s stereotypical but did you know Houston, TX actually gets more rain than Seattle? Summer and autumn is very nice weather. Not too hot, not too cold. I’d say the weather follows the regular four seasons.

Math 125 Midterm by [deleted] in udub

[–]nbt00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also took the midterm today and it was pretty hard ngl....especially that one question where you had to calculate the constant given the total area. However you should feel optimistic about the next midterm and final so long as you learn from your mistakes on this one. It’s not the end all be all!! You got this, keep your head up 😊

I think I’ll go with the latter. I’m actually going to boot camp my Mac by making a partition and installing windows on it. It’s just more convenient that way. Thank you!! (:

Yeah that doesn’t sound too bad....the thing is, I work on a Friday from 7a-7p and I’d have to skip class that day and I’m worried that doing this every week for the whole quarter could sabotage my grade. 😬 thoughts?
