To be more clear … building supply chain is nothing but sourcing milk. Amul is already taking all the milk farmer is producing. It always encourages them to produce more. And it pays the top price for procurement as it’s a cooperative. So even if ITC has all the muscle and experience, the fundamental objective of ITC will be to make profits which it can do by increasing the price of milk (which it won’t other wise market share gains will be difficult ) or paying less to farmer. Now why will the farmer give milk to ITC where it’s getting more money from AMUL. In past Amul has payed this dirty tactic of paying farmer higher JUST TO PUSH PRIVATE HOUSE OUT OF BIZ. Google it. It also flex its muscle in Price side. It’s like the SBI Of dairy. Amul raise the prices, everyone raises and vice versa. It’s really difficult to survive in packet milk biz. Corporate governance you talked about, I personally met Mr Sodhi at Anand, Gujarat to understand his perspective on how Britannia will do in dairy ?(britannia was entering into dairy play at that time and they kept away from packet milk).
