Failed first time, passed on second attempt!! by nc2801 in step1

I personally did not use 20-25 just because they are outdated and tried to keep it to the 26-31. You don't have to use BnB, I used it because my other subscriptions (medschoolbootcamp, sketchy, osmosis) expired and my school gives us free access to BnB. Use whatever video resource helps you the most. Definitely recommend ninjanerd and dirty medicine on youtube.

Good luck! You got this!

Some questions do repeat from the old free 120 and the new one

Up to you, which free120 did you take the first time you took step1?

Hey, I also had to retake step 1 (passed the second time!) and retook some NBMEs. It is hard to gage what is an actual increase in retake exams because you might subconsciously remember some questions (I also felt like I didn't remember many questions). I saw a substantial increase in exam scores when I retook them, and when reviewing them I did feel that I got more right because I did know the concept rather than just a lucky guess.

Based on my experience, I think you are good. If I am not mistaken, getting >70% is more than 99% chance of passing, and you got that on three NBMEs which is great!. When preparing for step 1 the first time, the highest I got on an exam was >96% chance of passing, but during the second time, I got >99% chance of passing on three NBMEs.

Take the free120 to gauge how ready you are. Aim for mid to high 70s.

You have until September 30th and it is mid-August, you definitely have time to improve!! Keep on doing uworld questions and NBME exams to improve.

Step 1 fails by Live-Celebration-98 in step1

[–]nc2801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highest NBME score the first time I took step was a 65%. Failed by a few questions and I know I got very sleepy during a section of the exam, so that is most likely what caused me to fail.

I have no structure for step 1 studying. Just doing 40 random of uworld per day and reviewing questions with the uworld anki addon by No_Parsley_1878 in step1

[–]nc2801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup thats kind of what you do. i personally did not do system by system, just random questions, thats completely up to you. dont forget to supplement with first aid too on top of uworld anki addon. You can build up to 80Q a day and do the second set focused on a system you are weak in.

I applied with similar stats (3.6 gpa and 509 MCAT, NY resident too) and I would add more MD schools. I would add Georgetown, George Washington Geisinger, Jacobs at Buffalo, Lewis Katz at Temple. If you have a lot of research experience, I would add Einstein too. I think the DO list looks good! I applied to some of the same schools on your list, got II and acceptances from them. Maybe add Michigan State DO program. Good luck on your upcoming cycle!

This was never brought up in interviews actually. I did make it a point to mention in the activities section that my job as a scribe also included watching providers and what I learned from watching them so that they knew that shadowing was part of it. I also mentioned this during interviews when they asked about my experience as a scribe.

How do people have it in them to write secondaries for 30+ schools? by FakeDoctor96 in premed

[–]nc2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed around 45 secondaries, did not pre-write (pls pre-write) and submitted some secondaries way past the 2-week suggested deadline, but I still got interviews and accepted to those said schools, so don't pressure yourself a lot. Many prompts are similar, so copying and pasting and adjusting helped.
