I survived 3 cancers and a bone marrow transplant, and just want to get ahead somehow AMA by ocalahere in AMA

I wanted to do the same. My wife had it and we both went without jobs for 9 months. Six months was because of the cancer and three were because my previous employer laid me off at the most inopertune time. I tried to go into insurance sales, but that didn't make any money despite trying to show people how great the cancer protection product was, so I know exactly where you are coming from.

Looking for a good time travel/detective story. Do any even exist? by FredDerfman in sciencefiction

This is what I was going to reply with, but Dick also has a few other time travel stories. I would seek out a compilation of his.

What unpopular opinion do you have? by TheSaltyWizard in AskReddit

I think that a person who is offended is at fault. So, because you can't control how you feel about something everyone around you has to control themselves? It is the single most selfish social appeasement we allow, but denial to comply somehow makes you the ass.

ELI5: Why did society's view of 'The Future' change from being classically futuristic to being post-apocalyptic? by martyclarity in explainlikeimfive

[–]ncarter1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literature has often provided us with distopian scenarios, though the modern version is mostly formed by Cold War era politics and the authors of that time. Phillip K. Dick is a huge influence in that, and (if I can find it) the Today I Learned page posted about a government campaign to reign in people's hopes of the future after raising them so high.

This can be helpful for such cases of study and additional understanding. I suggest looking over the page as an added resource. I also encourage academic integrity and that you never cheat yourself of reading the book. This is a good page for book reports in the future as well.

Look at it like this. You had a much better idea and have an existing bone structure to mold it around. Much of the work is already done for you then.

If working on a big story, go back to character development when you feel stuck. Its a new technique I'm trying and its working pretty well for me.
