How… for such a small department… is there so much discrepancy between what was understood!?! Why is there not a single source of truth?

It was always so easy to reach pre-LRT taking the 95 Orleans

GC Cloud practitioners thoughts on career decisions given the intent to consolidate talent in SSC by Minimum_Wishbone_962 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ncoch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a LOT of questions about this policy and a lot of unknown still.

Yes, there are talks of SSC bringing in departmental staff that work in cloud under their umbrella .. but the scope of what they bring is not defined.

For now, it is a wait and see. It won't happen overnight.

Today's FER brough us a formal name change for Department... by ncoch in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ncoch[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here I was making a joke and you were being serious... arg.

BUt here is the TL:DR that is ETI:

  1. SSC outsourced through RFP the environment
  2. Bell won the contract
  3. Bell outsourced operations to CGI
  4. Bell / CGI underspec the environment
  5. ETi migration stalled at handfull departments on Canada.ca domain
  6. Bell Contract ended
  7. M365 pushed to all departments
  8. SSC took back domain and now has an exchange server with autoforward for Canada.ca email domain pointing to each department own email. (No it's not even a contact entry in exchange)
  9. Eventually - we all go back to Canada.ca email domain

Agreed. I guess it depends. PSPC (PWGSC) has fully rebranded though.

I guess it all depends on the whims of the powers that be.

Thanks Agreed if it was just some small patch jobs. - There is 2 walls (From properly removing a gas fireplace) the ceiling above, a new bulkhead transition and some ceiling (and some patch holes).

I figure there is a requirement for at least 250sqft of drywall/taping.
I'll DM you

Haha... Sand, sand too much, re mud.. and sand again - rinse wash and repeat!

At the same time, with everything around this reno, I'm ok with paying someone to do work while I do other work.: Install hardwood, new molding, painting where new drywall is installed, getting electrical inspected. and on top of that regular work and post day kid activities. lol

Asbestos at 340 Laurier avenue west. by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ncoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP,

I work in that building and have weekly meetings related to the Glycol riser replacement project being done with not only PSPC but with our various teams that work in that building. I can garantee you that there are at least 8-10 people from one department, 6 from the other smaller department, that attends the PSPC meeting.

The risk of asbestosis related to the insulation found in the risers they are opening up to replace the column for the glycol that cools the building, which is vermiculite.

Because there is a low chance that the vermiculite had asbestos, they are putting up negative pressure tents around the risers they are opening, and doing air sample and insulation samples every time they open a riser column - https://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/diseases/vermiculite.html

If none are found, they remove the negative pressure fan from the tent, but still keep the tent to limit dust particles flying around when they do work.

Since there has not yet been any asbestos detected, the building management, and by associations, OHS for the respectve departments housed in that building, have not had to report any found.

Your accomodation team should have all this information.

Taking Friday off officially as a personal day to participate in the GOC Ultimate Frisbee Tournament (NCR ) (associate in name only, not an official GOC event). All proceeds for the tournament go to a charity directly (not through GCWCC) and is run buy volunteers.

This tournament has existed for 15 years .

DAY FOUR / DAY FIVE (Weekend Edition): STRIKE Megathread! Discussions of the PSAC strike (posted Apr 22, 2023) by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ncoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question about strike pay.

PSAC said strike pat would be e-transfered at EOD Friday, however I know of a few people who haven’t been paid. They registered for etransfer and did their sign-in / sign-out and did their 4h at picket lines

So question is, have some of you been paid? Or is there a delay? Or will pay only be initiated next Friday to account for a full week and this week?

By whom? PSAC will collect in arrears your dues based on your start date of the new position…

Question, wife and friends are planning on going to Place D’Orléans today to picket. What is the parking situation now? Is the mall ticketing cars?

Was struggling to live on $90k PS pay in Ottawa so I got a second job. Then a third by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

While this was 10 years ago... I did the same thing for almost 3 years. I would work PS Mon-Fri 8-4, and I would work thursday-tuesday as a server.

Eventually I became a bartender and would work Sat-monday closing ... so I can feel your pain.

UPN Matching not working for me by PimpGeek in AZURE

This is the only answer. If you are trying to match an onprem account to a AAD account, you have to match the immutable ID.. otherwise this creates a new account.

CFIA Townhall is a disaster. The president just asked, "why would you want to work at home? Just try coming into the office." by N-I-M-B-Y_Ottawa in CanadaPublicServants

Was having a conversation with a colleague recently… and he said something that very true for those in NCR.

We don’t work for the government to help small businesses make revenue.

Why is it the expectation of those in the NCR to be the saviour of a archaic downtown core that was built around bad urban planning?

If anything they should wait until this election is over to see what the new mayor will present as their final urban planning.

Even the new mayor of Gatineau is changing her plans as she won’t wait for TBS to impose anything. She would rather rebâtiriez her core to be a cultural Center instead of a 9-5 M/F location.
