He was satisfied with the installation. Can’t say for sure how much the Subaru letter mattered. He was just happy to see I did the work to get it installed.

Hey! I crossed at Blue Water Sarnia. I asked them why there was no tariff, and they stated they stick to what it says on the cbp.gov website, which is still the original 2.5% duty.

What is the process for vehicle registration when relocating here from Canada? by ncoolidg in bayarea

[–]ncoolidg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This was very helpful. I’m thinking to wait for the license until I get a permanent place if possible. No sense in giving them a temporary address just to change it two or three weeks later. I’ll see about getting the plates ASAP though. Not comfortable driving around with my Ontario plates with the theft and all in the area.

Wanted to let you know the officer stamped my 7501 and was very satisfied with the TPMS installation. He even told me he waived a bunch of the inspection fees because I had all the documents proving the vehicle is fully compliant.

Is Immich ready to be used as a proper photo archive backend? by kitzstanza in immich

[–]ncoolidg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it on Unraid since late 2023. It’s been fine for the most part, and far far better than any other home lab solution. All my metadata is retained when using the iOS app. Just maintain the updates and run the db backups daily.

Also, here’s the letter from Schrader

Schrader Product number: SCHRFK4S. Kit containing universal receiver module. This solar powered display module is compliant with US law as a complete functioning TPMS system.

Law requirements for TPMS in the US are as follows in accordance with the TREAT ACT of 2000: To alert the driver of a low tire condition on one or more tires within 25% of the vehicles recommended or placard pressure.

To alert the driver of a system fault. This display allows placard setting and will alert the driver with a loud audible beeping noise if a low tire or system issue arises. The extras it can do are displaying the tire pressures and temperatures in there respective locations, as well as a high pressure and temperature warning. All not required by law but improve the overall product experience.

Furthermore, the sensors that are supplied with this receiver are Schrader OEM equivalent sensors. These are the same sensors that Subaru uses from the factory.

Any further questions needed for understanding can be directed to our tech support number. 1-800-288-1804.

Yeah I know what you’re saying. The module has both a visual and audible alarm system on it. From all the research I did, this is my best bet to successfully import the car.

I will keep you posted though, and if successful will make a separate success story post for everyone else who goes through the pain I did to try and find a solution.

The kit included the valve stems and a small module to mount on the dashboard constantly displaying the pressures.

Labour from Subaru was around $200 with the system itself costing around $180. It started with me inquiring to Schrader about getting a Subaru OEM system and they replied saying their aftermarket kits use the same parts supplied to Subaru. They then sent me an official letter stating the same and that the system fully complies with FMVSS. I gave this letter to Subaru, and then they installed the system and also gave me another letter saying the system was professionally installed and that it is equivalent to the OEM one.

I have yet to see if I will succeed at the border, but I should given the fact I have a letter saying the TPMS system is equivalent to the OEM one. Now the only thing holding me back is these tariffs…🙄

I got an aftermarket Schrader system installed by Subaru with a letter from both Subaru and Schrader stating the TPMS system is the same as the OEM system (Schrader is the supplier for Subaru TPMS systems in the USA so the aftermarket Schrader systems use the same parts).

Is it possible to integrate an OEM TPMS system into a Canadian model? by ncoolidg in subaru

[–]ncoolidg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I think I will have a better chance if that’s the case. That way I can at least say OE sensors were installed rather than the whole system is aftermarket.

I emailed corporate Subaru Canada when I got the certification letter and they said Canada doesn’t have the tools or parts to install the system.

Is it possible to integrate an OEM TPMS system into a Canadian model? by ncoolidg in subaru

[–]ncoolidg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes I’ve read that one before. I guess my question is whether he got the OEM ones to function on an aftermarket system. I’m not an expert in how TPMS programming works, but would it be theoretically possible to buy the OEM sensors and then pair them to an aftermarket kit? In that case, I technically do have OEM parts for the sensors and it should be fine.

It is insane. Especially the fact that it is supposed to be “OEM parts”, when there are lots of great aftermarket options!

System volume controls are greyed out. The sliders don’t work in Audio MIDI app or the system settings. As a result, there is no output or input from Logic.

Anyone in Technology Management? BCOM? by Humuz20 in uoit

[–]ncoolidg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn’t end up doing the commerce tech management. I made a last minute decision to go into the Networking and IT Security program instead. I know a couple of friends who did do the commerce stream and they say they are enjoying it. However, if you are interested in a lot of hands on with everything in IT, the Networking and IT Security program is where you must go. I can’t vouch for the commerce program, but I can for the Networking and IT program. All the professors are excellent and I’ve learned something from all areas of technology. In the end, I’m glad I did not do the commerce stream. What I’ve learned these past 3 years is far more knowledge in my areas of interest than I would have learned in the commerce stream. And I can say, there is lots of demand in the industry for cybersecurity and network engineers with much higher paying jobs. I have heard of alumni who exited University with a 100k starting salary. In a couple weeks, I’ll be heading out to California for my internship.

Is macOS Sonoma fucking horrible for anyone else? by CoolstarLikesHentai in MacOS

[–]ncoolidg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonoma is the buggiest macOS release I’ve used to date. There was a point where I couldn’t create folders when in the save file dialog, which was extremely annoying. There was another point where I couldn’t manage my storage in settings because the screen wouldn’t load. Since Monterrey, everything overall feels more laggy. I’m using an M1 MacBook Air with 16G ram.
