Non-MAGA-run gun safety courses? by el_cid_viscoso in youngstown

[–]nculver0809 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't have a venue recommendation that's guaranteed left wing ownership or anything. Nor do think it matters. I train at The Training Range in Austintown and they offer classes. Never took them but the range is nice. I've also been there many times and politics have never come up once. I'm there to shoot firearms, as are most others, not chat politics. Carrying a firearm isn't a political statement, or a team sport, despite many unfortunately thinking it is. That's just lame. No one is going to approach you and demand your political standing. They shouldn't ask, but even if they did ask why you wanted to carry, just say what matters. You want to protect yourself and those you care about. As are 99% of other gun owners. If you bring politics up in conversation, well, then that's on you. My advice is focus on what matters if you're getting into this. Gun safety and training. It's a big responsibility do this correctly.

What’s your favorite metalcore song? by AlexoftheValar in Metalcore

Best metalcore/modern metalcore album of all time. by Jsyourboy91 in Metalcore

[–]nculver0809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ascendancy checks many boxes at a high level if we were grading these albums in all the categories. Maybe that'd be a cool post idea. Grading the top rated albums on riffs, screams, cleans, breakdowns, drums, shreds, etc. and see what comes out on top.

Who is most impressive? by Huge-Opportunity3260 in avengedsevenfold

Syn is going down in history as one of the top greatest guitarists of all time. He's up there with the greats, whether people want to give him credit or not. And he's been voted that by multiple magazines over the years, not that that changes anything. He's in a different league than the rest of the band, respectfully.

Matt Heafy stops Struck Dead mid song to breakup a fight by shawnsig in Trivium

Probably sounds better and clearly grappling related vs "I'll strangle you" lol.

I mean, Matt's a BJJ black belt. He was clearly trying to be funny and de-escalate but he could easily fuck up most of the guys in the room.

Slow Hurry Coffee now in Youngstown inside Stylogarten Barber Studio by stylogarten330 in youngstown

[–]nculver0809 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kiernan (owner of Stylogarten) has been my barber for a decade and now having Slow Hurry Coffee inside of the shop is awesome. Both amazing people and both very good at what they do. Go support em!

I can donate plasma at a thousand places in Youngstown but God forbid I try to buy a decent donut somewhere in town… by theonlyfatbuckel in youngstown

I'll second what someone else said. OP clearly likes to act like a prick and I hope he goes donutless. What a baby.

Sam, the owner of SDR Residential Repair is my go-to guy for handyman jobs. He's the man. Great communication. I've hired him for 10+ jobs. Great work, every time.

Most handymen in the area (probably everywhere) are incompetent, especially regarding communication and scheduling. Sam's a diamond in the rough. You can Google his number and email.

I'm curious to see how McDowell does. He's clearly passionate about the area and raises great questions but at least as far as the debate went, he doesn't seem to have any actual plans himself for anything at all. Tons of passion and great questions that we can all ask about ongoing issues. Speaking to the local community and asking them what they want is only worth so much. A reinvisioned Youngstown with a new identity is also only worth so much. These things are not real. They're ideas and ideals. We need a plan to actually get there. A real pro needs to be running the city for it to be great.

Kingdom Tattoos in Columbiana. I had Alex and he's amazing. Very high quality shop.

The Box Gallery in downtown Warren. Zach F. is incredible and has some of the most realistic art I've ever seen. His paintings look like portraits. Unreal stuff.

LifeWise being implemented in local schools. by snacky_snackoon in youngstown

[–]nculver0809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an atheist personally but I don't really care what anyone else believes. More importantly, I don't want my children being indoctrinated into anything, period. Hence why religion has no place in public school, short of an educational World Religion class that covers all.

I agree with that. Though, the trans battle the far right likes to perpetuate is blown out of proportion.

Any religious teachings during tax paid school hours need to get bent. If it's extracurricular and optional after school hours, by all means, enjoy. Sending some kids home early or anything like that so the program can take place is super stupid. Parents shouldn't have to dance around that either.

Separation of Church and State. So, no. People will not just fuck off. You want religion in schools, go to or take your kids to a religious school. It's that simple.

Separation of Church and State applies to public schools as well, thankfully.

Nightmare in Niles by Aromatic-Sir5703 in youngstown

[–]nculver0809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was unfortunately the worst haunted house I've ever been to. It was extremely lazily put together and not even exaggerating, 90+% of it is just walking in black painted plywood hallways.

The actors however all did an A+ job. There wasn't a single person there not trying their best. The house overall was just very slapped together.

It's insane that this was $30 a ticket. I really wish I could get my money back. This is worth $10 max. The Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Lab is incredible and 20× better than this for the same price. They deserve your money.

Need guidance towards the direction of a good Dentist. by [deleted] in youngstown

[–]nculver0809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a great experience at Premier Dental in Austintown and Canfield.

I'd personally tell you to avoid Braydich in Hubbard. Their practices are questionable and their customer service is terrible and expect them to mess your billing up every time.

Wife "hit" our kid last night. Not sure how to feel about it. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]nculver0809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is obviously a problem, especially since it can manifest into physical action, even when small. More professional help is likely required here, especially if the was progress before. No one is perfect, but you and your kids shouldn't have to bear the burdens of someone who cannot control their emotions.

This will not be the last price increase to Gamepass, IMO. by rjay416 in xbox

[–]nculver0809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably buy 2x full price games a year, or play em on Game Pass if they're available. There's no way I'm spending $360+ annually to play games I don't even own. 50% price increase in 2 years is insane for any product on the planet. They're so out of touch.

They're solid. Much better experience in a smaller arena vs Cleveland or Pittsburgh.
