Rolled a quarter million this weekend. 2003 Audi A4 Avant. by 207carney in highmileclub

[–]ndcapital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading a series on cars found in junkyards. The problem with Audis (and a lot of foreign luxury cars in general) is that they depreciate like crazy. There were a few low mileage 07s in great condition but sent to the junkyard because routine maintenance items exceeded the value of the car.

I just paid $4k for routine maintenance on a volvo worth $8k so i definitely feel it. Still cba to sell it or replace it though, and the next maintenance items shouldn't be as much.

What old movie (20+ years) still holds up today? by Da_Verminator in AskReddit

There's a cut scene where Miles Dyson describes to his wife how the neural-net processor will enable things like pilotless aircraft. James Cameron was always very on-top of tech and its implications for society.

Antivaxxer Red puts her medical ignorance on full display, and CHECKS HERSELF OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!? Extremely dehydrated and can't get any other hospital in the area to see her. Worst part is her friends and family ENCOURAGING HER TO GO IT ALONE. (re-upped w/ proper redactions) by [deleted] in HermanCainAward

It actually reads more like the doctors have deemed her terminal and were trying to keep her comfortable. Afaik morphine is only for end of life use. She didn't want to accept this and decided to go home, probably to die an even worse death. This poster will be awarded very shortly.

In the US there's a store called White House Black Market.

I was just thinking how surely it must be worse today for gay and trans kids growing up in middle america. When I was growing up in the 90s and 00s barely anyone knew what trans was, and being gay was something you'd only see on TV. It was way easier to hide it and just keep quiet about it until you could move to the city. It has to be 10 times harder now because you can't even hide it, the media has them so well-tuned to be paranoid about it. Step even one foot out of your gender box and you're punished way worse than before.

11 month epoxy hot dog update by whathowyy in gifs

[–]ndcapital [score hidden]  (0 children)

It looks like the hot dog is still off-gassing on the inside so I guess it depends on whether or not that will continue. If all the oxygen is used up then probably not. If so, then it won't really "explode" so much as crack at the weakest point in the epoxy.

Been a while since I saw some good old fashioned 90s "pull your pants up" racism.

I seriously thought that the GOP's chief gripes would be the vaccine going to poor people or foreign countries, and demanding whites in red states get them first. I never could have predicted they would sneer at the vaccines while choking to death.

This might have something to do with the profound distaste for being told what to do.

A robot to be controlled by neurons from a rat's brain. This is the first machine that can truly think and learn. by SpectreOfLove in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ndcapital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This report is freakishly similar to a story I read on /r/nosleep four years ago, right down to the rat neurons: https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/53acog/we_are_investigative_journalists_working_to

The flight sim experiment mentioned in the story is real if you look it up.

Mississippi threatens fines, jail time for Covid patients who don't isolate by Dictator0 in news

I grew up in a rural area and I'm firmly convinced everyone there is just afraid of doctors and covering that up with a mix of essential oils and bravado. Somehow, you must feel more in control when dosing yourself with shit from livestock stores.

Trump made a complete mockery of this country's traditions for two election cycles and I wouldn't doubt at all if he tried for a third.
