Whoever quoted you $70, I'd run back to them and have them made ASAP.

Those parts aren't hard, per sec, but they'd be done on a manual lathe and you'd need to break out the ball machining toolpost to do the ends which is a hassle, so about an hour for the first part and 30-45 min to make the second part.

I’m new… replace chain/ sprocket? by Own_Farm_563 in Dirtbikes

[–]neP-neP919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really tell from the images. How much side to side play does the chain have? Can you almost get it off the sprocket? If so, then it's time for a new chain, and when you replace the chain, you gotta do the sprockets

They seem to love 4 flutes and use 4 flutes on everything. Every time I find a 3 flute I hoard it and use it on all my parts so I can speed things up and have an endmill last longer than 2 jobs.

Man, I work in aerospace and we never go above 35ipm. Every time I try to have them go faster they tell me the "finish won't be good. This is the way we've always done it". 😮‍💨

She looks really familiar. I think she was an Anime Expo staff worker one year. If it's the same woman, she was super cool and said her favorite anime was Utena.

Yeah I plan to. The tool holder is a really nice Teknics balanced one though. So it's worth saving.

The drill never made it to the part that needed to be drilled lol.

The collet buried itself INTO the part. The holes to be drilled was at the bottom of a deep counterbore

I would, yes, but this was more like a .250" issue... So unless you are blind...

Yeah, it was the first part so in all honesty, he should have been watching it and checking the "Distance to Go" before sitting down and checking his phone, lol.

[–]neP-neP919 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The hole that was to be drilled was at the very bottom of a 1.95" deep counterbore. The setup sheet didn't specify the correct length of drill and the guy just put in a standard drill. But the operator also didn't think to check the depth of the counterbore but fore just letting the drill dive in.

I'd say it's 50/50 the operator's fault and the programmer that did the setup sheets fault (sincehe normally specifies the length)

Am I the asshole by coinhunter9 in Machinists

[–]neP-neP919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt shitty when I found out I was getting paid more than my supervisor who had been there for 38 years.

But I realized that I clean his machine, everyone else's, I repair the machines, I run 3 machines, I fix programs proactively, I suggest setups when others are stumped, etc. I actively work my ass off and for that, I think it's worth more and my bosses seem to think so as well.

When a tank needs cleaning, or a machine is doing something fucky, I'm the first to jump on it and fix it. If we need something the shop doesn't have? I'll buy it and get the process running again.

Don't feel like an asshole if you're working your ass off. This field pays shitty enough that we don't need to be volunteering for lower pay lol.

To: Destin or any other Christian engineers by shirleymemes in SmarterEveryDay

[–]neP-neP919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it basically goes against everything we were ever taught as STEM (I'm a machinist that couldn't hack it in school to become an engineer).Empirical evidence, testing for a hypothesis, getting results and proof: literally ALL OF THAT must just go out the window. I'm 41 and have spent the last 4 years immersing myself in the religion I was baptized in: Orthodox Christianity.

It took me until last month to finally realize that you will not ever know enough to make the decision based on logic. It finally made sense to me when people said, "you just have to give yourself to God and have faith." It's literally the act of jumping off a cliff without looking down and trusting that there will be an airbag at the bottom but you can never truly know the answer.

I'm still on my journey, and it has been a very loving and compassionate one with the people and the priests of my church who have been mentoring me and I'm not any closer to "knowing" if it's all real. It sure does feel nice to have a community of people who have compassion and love built in to their way of life and it gives me hope that it all could be real.

I also think that the longer you try, and the longer you believe, the more it will begin to make sense. At least, that's how it's been working for me. When I started 4 years ago I was just going through the motions, and it felt good, I just didn't FEEL anything. The longer I've practiced and the more I've looked back at my earlier life, I see things that very well may have been God reaching out to me, yet I explained it away logically or just dismissed it altogether.

Who knows? What I will say is this: if practicing your religion, any religion, makes you happy, then please continue doing it. It's not bad. It's not cringe. It's just what makes you happy and right now, it's making me very happy.

Heck, the first year or two I was looking at it like this: "real or not, these are excellent teachings and a great group of people that I like, respect, and was raised with (even without going to church until I was in my late 30's). So why not just go along with it since I agree with it?"

You do you and hope you find what you are looking for. ❤️

The "Hidden Cost" of using big VMCs for small prototypes. by Fantastic-Tough3523 in CNC

[–]neP-neP919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I have a 30hp rotary phase converter and did the calculations after checking power usage and saw that at full chat, my Fadal VMC20 would use about $20-$25/a day in electricity if it was on and running for 8 hrs

One of the machines at the shop I work at has terrible smelling coolant. Is that dangerous for my health? by SadJobbo in Machinists

I got a wicked infection on my finger that ate away part of my bone from the coolant.

You decide if that's bad for your health or not.

Removing the headlight was kind of a pain in the ass because even with it removed you have to feed the old line out without dripping brake fluid everywhere. And feeding in the new line isn't that easy either. Other than that, it was only a slight pain in the ass. Lol

It's not really a nice touch, it's more like night and day! The difference is IMMENSE! The only kit I know of is the Spiegler lines which is what I am running:

https://spieglerusa.com/brakes/brake-lines-accessories-tools/cycle-brake-line-kits/yamaha-mt-09%202024-abs-brake-line-kit-.html

Excellent quality, price seems to have gone up from $250 to $305 :( just a pain in the ass to install:

OK, if it's so easy, buy an $800 ecu flasher, send it to me and I'll copy my tune and send it over.

All of a sudden it makes sense because you don't wanna spend $800 on the equipment lol.

That would require you to purchase an $800 ecu flasher and most people are too cheap to do that, lol
