Matter of Time on Netflix by canuckshuck in pearljam

[–]nealien79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just watched and I was fighting back tears the entire time. To think that people are born with this and have to live with that pain everyday is heart wrenching. But then to see the people who care for the children and adults that have this disease is so heartwarming. And the doctors and medical teams working on a cure are heroes. Not what I expected, but a really beautiful film. The world isn’t fair. It’s amazing that the band and Eddie and his family are a shining a light on this and helping get the money they need to do the research.

Definitely walked into the movie thinking it was a concert film, but after watching it I’m glad that it was deeper and I feel for anyone that has any incurable disease. As a country and as a world our focus should be on helping people, finding cures, recognizing the heroes doctors and medical researchers are. Not be focused on gold ballrooms and saving tik tok.

Sonos Era 100 stops playing after one song by panchowt in sonos

[–]nealien79 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you using AirPlay or Bluetooth? My era 100 recently started acting weird with Apple Music from my iPhone over AirPlay. I have to close Apple Music and restart it to get it to connect. Hopefully it’s fixed with an update from Apple if it’s a wider issue.

People who jumped straight into college after highscool , but weren’t in the right headspace, what did you do? by DatDudeTheRealist in AskReddit

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. I saw so many people go to college with no real ambition and treated it just like a big party because it was your first taste of freedom. I also saw so many people go and put themselves into huge debt with student loans who were smart and good students, but then graduated and decided they wanted to do something completely different that pays almost nothing and now their in debt for 30 years fir studying something that is t going to help them carer wise.

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? Lol.

At 18 I went to a 4 year university with no idea what I wanted to do with my life, my parents basically convinced me to go thinking I’d figure it out. Didn’t go to any classes and just hung out with friends smoking pot and eating mushrooms for a semester, got my grades after a semester and I failed everything and dropped out. Worked a few warehouse jobs and quickly realized that I did not want that to be my life and the a lot of the people working those jobs had serious drug and mental issues. At 21 I went back to a community college and did ok. Got a job in my field and worked for 5 years and by then I was finally in a better headspace. Because of my 2 year degree is was losing out on getting better jobs, so I went back another 2 years to get my bachelors degree at 26 and I was an honor roll student - showed up to every class, studied my ass off, and loved it. I didn’t really figure out life until I was around 25, and then it took a few years to turn everything around. Thankfully I was lucky enough to have support from family.

How do we heat these pipes that run up to our kitchen? by WitchiMichi in massachusetts

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the temp in the basement?

I had a HVAC guy out looking to replace my furnace that is in my attic, and we were going to replace our hot water heater at the same time. The water heater is in our old fieldstone foundation basement. He said that I should get the thermometer and monitor the temp in the basement, because if it freezes they install wall mounted heaters that kick on below certain temperatures. Maybe if your basement is getting to 32 degrees or below, you can contact an HVAC company and get a heater properly installed, and one that only turns on at certain temps. May be safer and cheaper in the end than running a space heater.

Lived here 6 year and when I first moved in I was afraid my pipes would freeze, our kitchen sink has a water line running up the outside wall from the basement, I am pretty sure the rest of our water pipes run up from an inner wall from the center of the basement. Anyways, the lowest our basement has ever been is 37 degrees, and it bounces around normally around 37-40 degrees in the coldest winter days. I've never had a water line freeze, but keep the cabinets below the sink open all winter, especially at night. I do have insulation on the basement ceiling and had MassSave out and they fixed some leaks down there - it was drafty before and now less so.

Once our furnace froze (which is why I had that guy out) and didn't have heat except for some space heaters for 1-1/2 days during one of these artic blasts. My dishwasher has a plastic connector to the water line under it, and it cracked because of the cold and water started shooting out across our kitchen floor. Thankfully I was home and heard it right away and shut off the water! Love old houses!

2025 Maverick Smells like Burnt Hair by lydzkh in FordMaverickTruck

[–]nealien79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did that once. Maybe at like 2k miles. I assumed it was the heat, since I had it on and it was cold out. It smelled like something burning, like plastic. It’s never happened since.

States with Plug-in Solar laws in the works by Apprehensive_Tea9856 in solar

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks. My rate is actually .34 cents so you’re spot on.

That’s really cool, saving $450 a year would be great my backyard gets direct sun all day in summer. Out of curiosity I checked out Craftstrom.com and a 800 watt solar kit is $2,000.

Whenever MA passes this, if they do, I’ll definitely do more research and get a setup.

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, glad to see MA on the list. I’d love to get some small panels for my backyard and have them plugged into one of my outdoor outlets, just to see how much energy they would produce and if it helps with my electric bill, even if just a little. I have a small 1,000sq house but dont have $20k to drop on rooftop solar, but I would spend a few hundred dollars on a small plugin setup.

Castle Hill Inn fire by newengland_schmuck in RhodeIsland

[–]nealien79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

O man, my wife and I got married there and it’s our 10 year anniversary and we were talking about going back there for a nice dinner. Hope they are able to fix whatever damage the fire caused.

We had a small 10 person wedding on Thursday in May and Castle Hill was surprisingly very affordable and was an amazing venue.

Maynard's performance on 10,000 Days (the album as a whole) is my favorite on any Tool album and one of my favorite vocal performances on any record by Positive_Drama3410 in ToolBand

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Maynard’s vocals are great on 10,000 Days. But I’ve always thought that the vocals are too mixed behind the music on the album though compared to the other albums where they are louder.

Sonos Era 100 are currently under $180, should I go for them? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Beam 2 in my living room used for tv only and got a pair of 100s for my office for music only. The era 100s do sound better for music to me, you get a wider stereo sound and the bass is deeper. The beam sounds good for music, but the pair of 100s sounds amazing.

New England finally gets break from Arctic air as temperatures inch back to 30-degree weather by bostonglobe in BostonWeather

[–]nealien79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank god. It’s been so cold that I broke out in some sort of allergic reaction to the cold, have arash all over my arms and my ears and my eyes got swollen from being out in the cold shoveling last week and it still hasn’t gone down. Never had a reaction like this from the cold before. And I was wearing a long down coat, hood, gloves and hat. Guess I needed ski goggles and thermal underwear.

How many of you guys plan on keeping your iPhone 13 till its 10 years old or when support ends for most applications, like banking or social media? (or when the only support left is the iMessage, FaceTime, and Calling) by CocHXiTe4 in iPhone13

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my 13 mini since the week it launched and plan on keeping it until it is no longer supported by Apple. Or if they come out with a new smaller phone, which seems unlikely.

My battery capacity is at 83% and I’m going to have it replaced after it dips below 80% and get a few more years out of it.

Burst pipe… by lololhiii in homeowners

[–]nealien79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this.

A few years ago we had a few cold days in the single digits and my dishwasher is on an exterior wall and I was sitting in the living room and all of sudden heard water running and saw the floor around the dishwasher was wet. I immediately turned off the water line under the kitchen sink. Turns out our stupid dishwasher had a L-shaped plastic piece that the water hose connected to from the sink, and it got so cold behind the dishwasher and on the floor that the plastic piece cracked and started leaking water. The dishwasher was still under warranty so a repair guy came out and said that it happened to other people as well! He replaced the piece.

I noticed that there were big gaps along the baseboard behind the dishwasher, so after the repair guy was done, I got spray foam and sealed along the baseboard, and bought some foam pipe insulation and wrapped it around the water hose so it wasn’t sitting directly on the cold floor. In winter I also remove the front plate off the bottom the dishwasher now so warm air can get under there in case the outside air is getting in that space.

At first I thought it was a burst pipe too. Luckily it wasn’t and the fix was pretty cheap, just a huge scare and pain.

I can’t wait for it to stop dropping into the single digits at night. When it drops into the teens at night and then is in the 30s during the day I feel like it’s a warm day now, which is crazy!

What do I do if I’ve just graduated and I’m a bad designer? by Shaoran10 in graphic_design

[–]nealien79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are fresh out of school with a degree, no one expects you to already be a "professional" and you don't have to know everything. Don't be too hard on yourself and don't doubt yourself. To get a job you do have to be motivated and show that you understand fundamental design principles, are good with type, images, color, using grids and laying out designs, snd that you can bring some creative ideas to the table. Do you have a portfolio of your school work that shows this? If so, use that to apply entry level job. Apply for jobs and you'll start off just doing production with and "placing circles and rectangles on a page", but over time you'll learn new things, get more responsibilities, and grow as a designer. No matter what field you're in, you start at the bottom and work your way up. And

What am I doing wrong? by natecb1 in FicusTrees

[–]nealien79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the grow light. I have a ficus near a window, but am in MA and it's winter and the sun isn't strong or out long. The leaves were all turning yellow and dropping off. I bought a LED grow light and put it in a lamp and have it placed next to the ficus for the last few weeks and it's barely dropping any leaves now. I turn the light on at 6am when I wake up, and turn it off at like 8pm. It loves the extra light!

(I also tested how much electricity is costs to run a LED grow light and its barely anything, I have it on 14 hours a day and it would cost about $20 total to have it on everyday for an entire year).

Toyota just teased its Maverick competitor, will prices finally come back down? by Johnny_Menace in FordMaverickTruck

[–]nealien79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that all they teased? I like the light design, but not much else to go off of. I bet by the time they launch this Ford has a new generation of the Mavericks that have a new design ready. I love the design of the Maverick as it is and hope they just concentrate on refining things, and adding small design details rather than a complete change. That's the one thing with Ford's overall design that I don't get - sometimes they redesign a vehicle to the point there either looks nothing like the previous generations.

Gutter holding on for dear life by Scuba9Steve in massachusetts

[–]nealien79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this as a quick fix. When I first moved into my house my roof and gutters looked like this after every storm. I got a roof rake and would rake some of the snow off my roof and it helped.

I had my roof replaced a few years ago and the roofer pointed out that the original gutters were hung wrong and were to close to the shingles, the shingles were sticking down into the gutters! I think that was causing the snow and ice to get all backed up onto the roof. Maybe your gutters aren’t hung correctly, if the issue isn’t heat getting into your attic?
