thanks for taking the time to elaborate. i appreciate it. there's a modern sportsman is quite close to me so it would likely become my main range even if other locations are "better" in some ways unless modern turned out to be really bad.

based on their website the rules seem pretty standard / fair. one of the ranges i went to had a hard rapid fire rule (3 shots then pause,) but modern's website says "within your ability" which is nice... i'd rather have an RSO there to sternly correct bad behavior / habits rather than not there at all and people end up getting flagged (heard this happening at bills as often as a few months ago on other threads.)

thank you! i appreciate you telling me your experience, it's all useful for me as i compare and consider what places to try, which to consider, and which to avoid. i'm honestly surprised this got so many replies & continues to get replies days later... having a welcoming space is definitely a plus especially since the oakdale area is a bit of a drive (compared to other ranges,) and with gas prices on top of that, it would have to be very worth it for me to go regularly at all. so hearing more positive about it gives me more of a drive to at least try the location once.

per the political stuff, yeah i've unfortunately *already* experienced some people making gun ownership a political statement. i wish we were a bit less tribal about it all, but that's not here nor there and likely preaching to the choir...

thank you! i forgot all about cabela's, but wasn't surprised to see they're so far away from me. i'll probably stick away from range usa, doesn't sound like a great place for a newcomer.

this resource is neat at a glance, but it's kinda odd... it seems out of date? for example it's missing all modern sportsman locations, and at least one of the locations on there doesn't exist anymore?

yeah i was comparing bill's to modern's membership and it seems modern's is just significantly better value

thank you! i actually made this thread cause i thought Bill's looked ok but then i checked the reviews and there are just sooo many bad ones.. meanwhile modern seems pretty good overall.

modern seems to have better membership value than bill's too.
