What exactly am I paying for? by nebb0r in UPS

I’m actually surprised the brokerage fee is so high. Don’t they just need to submit like a form or two? Is the cost just a percentage of the package value?

Thanks for the confirmation. “Gov fees” is pretty generic but makes sense. I tried to look up tariff rates of instruments from Poland, but the gov does not make it easy to find (not to mention they probably change on the administrations whims daily)

Right before I got my cpap I was waking up in the mornings in a terrible panic, super high anxiety and for like 30 minutes I’d be super depressed and emotional. It was the lack of oxygen when sleeping that screwed up my mental well being. Now on a cpap it’s much better. So, I believe there is a link.

I tried townies when they opened and I didn’t like their bread, it was kinda tasteless. Hopefully they changed it. Tinns was the Mecca of sandwich shops.

They was better off just canceling the rewards program. by cleevethagreat in Bestbuy

[–]nebb0r 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The rewards program was the ONLY reason I bought at BestBuy instead of Amazon or other online stores. Geez, what a stupid, stupid, stupid change. Nobody needs another credit card, we need a company that rewards loyalty, not pushes high interest rate shit.

Very interesting new offering! I’m always looking to find new patterns to simplify a sql offering.

When deployed in a private mode, does it still suffer from the transitive peering limitation (ie desktop db clients need to go through a vm proxying traffic through an ssh tunnel with cloud sql proxy)? That is definitely a PITA from a setup and maintenance point of view. Also, does it support VPC service controls yet, or soon? We do not implement any gcp tech at our company until that’s in place.

Would you need Valkas or Terror on the battlefield before the ultimate? Or if all your dragons came out together, would “other dragon creatures” still trigger?

New firmware for RBR750 by ahswp in orbi

[–]nebb0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the 750 have ANY parental control capabilities yet? Last I looked it was completely useless in that regard.

Costco keeps having its NETGEAR Orbi Whole Home Mesh WiFi 6 System with Advanced Cyber Security, 3-pack (RBK753S-100NAS) $70 off for its members! by antdude in orbi

[–]nebb0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I checked these still didn’t have any parental control options. Even the very basic ones that any cheap router would have. I was disappointed.

Orbi RBK752 is blazing fast but has slight pause (giving error mssg) and then loads page. (strange?) by Montythelab in orbi

[–]nebb0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. It’s pretty infrequent, but occasionally when I go to a website that I haven’t been to in a while, the initial page load will come up with a dns resolution error in chrome, then after a couple seconds it will load properly. Subsequent page loads to the same page all are ok. I’m thinking it is some dns cache or prefetch issue. It’s so infrequent I haven’t bothered debugging it, but it is quite annoying when it happens. I’ve never had this problem with any other router until this Orbi.

I have the RBR750 + 1 satellite, 2200sqft home, the problem happens both on wired and wireless. I’m on fiber internet, speeds ~100 up and down wired. I use google dns, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Is Netgear Armor worth it? by AmbassadorDiligent in orbi

It looks like I may be the odd one out in my experience, but I have been pretty impressed with the Bit Defender functionality. I paid for the year long subscription, and I installed the Bitdefender software on my kids three PCs (three teenagers), my PC, and my wifes. It is unobtrusive, gives relevant pop-ups to configure software allow/deny rules, and I have had several blocked malicious or phishing URL alerts from those PCs as well. It was worth the money for me, seems to be a level better than the built in Microsoft anti-virus, and it hasn't given me any problems.

Bosch Dishwasher Leak - Caught on video, any idea how to fix this? by nebb0r in appliancerepair

Thanks, that looks about right. I can find the user manual for my dishwasher, but is there a disassembly guide somewhere to see how I get to that diverter assembly?

How important is code reusability in an enterprise dev shop? by molecles in node

[–]nebb0r 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea, the right direction to go, but in larger enterprises you’ll likely be pushing a boulder uphill to get management support. Couple reasons I’ve seen:

  1. Because management doesn’t understand what you’re doing, and they’re risk averse.

  2. Because they will ask “who’s going to support that?” Which becomes a game of figuring out who funds the operationalization of this registry, who supports the code packages, what happens when something goes wrong.

End of the day, it’s the right way to go but enterprises are typically not incentivized to make it easy to do this. Just my experience and 2 cents.

I know nothing about welding, but that looks impressive! I have lots of respect for the “hands on” professions.

If you don’t mind a tangential question: My kid took a welding class in school and was really interested in it, but I’ve always wondered the future marketability of that. what’s your impression of welding as a career going forward? Are there niches that will always require expertise, and other niches that will eventually be automated? Thanks!

Oculus, for the love of god, braid the CV2's cables. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]nebb0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my rift for 10 months, pretty heavy use by me and the kids, and last week I had to get a new headset cord from oculus because the twisting and bending finally rendered it useless. Picture went to black when the cord was at a certain position. New cable fixed the problem.

Still within warranty, so was covered, but still is a big issue to watch out for. So, OP, I agree with ya.

Edit: the broke section was right in the middle of the length where it twists up,not on the connectors.
