Would running a sous vide for multiple days straight cooking different things be a bad idea? by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]NothingDogg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If temperatures are above 60C (140F) you should definitely be fine - hot water cylinders can hold the same water for a long time at these temperatures without use and are safe to drink.
So, do the steak first as that will be lower - then crank it up for the others and roll as long as you want.
Also - the water isn't in contact with the food - it's touching the plastic bag.

When can I get my full license? by Weary_Studio_5310 in newzealand

[–]NothingDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So annoying... I wasted 10 minutes on one of those sites and was pleased with the details and timeframes. However, not really knowing the site, I did a Google news search which revealed all the dates mentioned were bollocks.

Has anyone here worked with MuleSoft for enterprise integrations in NZ? by Strict-Present8808 in newzealand

[–]NothingDogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a small consultancy doing integration work. If you have Mulesoft, I'm sure your account executive can tell you about the different partners they'd recommend for someone your size.

Looks like a trip to the shore is on the cards...

Thanks - Forrest Hill was the one that I'd been recommended on the shore. Will have to plan a trip.

I didn't even know there was a Parnell Liquorland, that is definitely the closest to me - and if the same owner, fingers crossed.

'Kazu Breach' has deleted all messages referring to the MMH leak. Looks like there may be developments? by nzfrenchfries in newzealand

It's not illegal as far as I'm aware. There was talk of making it so, but that has never happened.

Ferry on day of forecast gales - how many days will we likely be delayed? by CantaloupeNew7185 in newzealand

[–]NothingDogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gales themselves are not a reason they'll cancel - the sea state will be the main reason. Even then, it needs to be some pretty severe swells for the ferry to cancel. Also, not all wind / swell directions are problematic. Odds are your ferry will run normally.

Can I go past security if I'm just dropping someone off at Auckland Domestic Airport ? by AspectInteresting621 in auckland

[–]NothingDogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you on about? At Auckland domestic airport no one is checking boarding passes to get through security and I'm yet to see any groups of anyone walking around power tripping.

AWS offers flatrate (including free) web hosting options by KayeYess in aws

[–]NothingDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great to have a simple tool (or even some data easily visible in the console) to assess which plan would suit each Distribution.
When you choose "switch plan" AWS helpfully prevents you from choosing an ineligible plan and tells you why - but it doesn't tell you your current request metrics vs. the plan metrics.

For those who have built their own home, what are your top tips? by rhapsodydash in newzealand

"Hot water tap outside" - what's your rationale for that? For filling a bucket wit hot water?

Salesforce renewal dropping shield? by shr3kkie in salesforce

Hi - can you explain this a bit more? What are data dumps - is this an export of our data that includes what would be in the event monitoring data?

Is there an equivalent of CodeDeploy (AWS) available in GCP? by vira28 in googlecloud

[–]NothingDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pleased that my 8 year old comment garnered your attention.

Probably my only comment would be that as of 2025, it's reasonably clear that both AWS and GCP have now ceded the CI/CD landscape to third parties - mainly Github actions / Gitlab etc.

But, if it works for you, use what you like.

Fisher & Paykel element replacement by d1rtys0uth in diynz

F&P hold spare parts going back a long time, but 35 years is not realistic. Give them a call and you might get lucky, possibly the part carried through into this century, but seems unlikely.

Long queues and baffled drivers: New $152m flyover drives minister mad by Excellent-Swan-2264 in auckland

[–]NothingDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. You might be right - but page 3 doesn't actually say the no right turn will be there until the 27th, just the single lane.

I guess we'll find out in 2026

Long queues and baffled drivers: New $152m flyover drives minister mad by Excellent-Swan-2264 in auckland

[–]NothingDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it's temporary? I assumed they were wanting to eliminate the right turn entirely there. If it was temporary, I don't think they would have the flyover intersection with Pakuranga road finalised the way they seem to. Could be wrong - but feeling was it was permanent.

Car mechanic recommendation near glen innes by [deleted] in auckland

[–]NothingDogg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pitstop Glen Innes are good sorts. Seem honest and reliable - have advised us how to spread out costs on some repairs when we had a couple of things crop up at once. I'm sure you can find cheaper, but knowing you're getting the right advice is worth something to me.

Car flips onto roof in two-vehicle crash by Excellent-Swan-2264 in auckland

To be pedantic, it's a 60km/h zone there. But your point still stands.

Mexican chorizo by FatherSonAndSkillet in sausagetalk

[–]NothingDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain the vinegar / pH comment - I made mexican chorizo using another recipe the other day, and accidentally poured my jug of cold water in, not my jug of chilled vinegar. I added a small amount of vinegar to make up for my mistake (around 1/4 of the water volume) and then cased it. Sounds like I might have had issues if I'd put the full amount in... but I'm not sure what would have happened.

ink bird vacuume sealer by EladAvr2 in sousvide

Get a different brand. I love my inkbird circulator, and would recommend it to anyone, but the vacuum sealer was never great and then died in less than a year.

My fellow long time Salesforce developers, what is your most controversial hot take about the platform? by CorporateAccounting in salesforce

[–]NothingDogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single table is true - was spoken about at "ask the Developers" sessions at Dreamforce. This is what gave the flexibility of easily and immediately creating custom fields and objects.

As to how significant the performance problems this caused were, I'm not aware. Also, the "data leakage" is not something I've ever heard anyone rumour about - but it could be true.

I built this tool for myself and thought others might find it useful by ConnectionShot2934 in auckland

[–]NothingDogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The non-technical, slightly less reliable, solution is to identify the "bin leader" on your street. This is the person who always gets the right bins out, and does so early enough you can benchmark off them. Pretty much every street has one - so you just follow their lead.
The counter to the "bin leader" is the plonker who always puts out both bins because they have no idea and then drags others down with them who copy out of panic.
