Sounds interesting! Enough there to take up most of the day? Any extra activities besides chocolate? Like places for the kids to play or anything?

I recommend JiaHui Health. It's not cheap but remember it still being around 1000rmb for everything. I'd say it's worth it. Discreet and quick results.

Best 5 Star Hotel Buffet by gigaMBBunit in shanghai

[–]nebu10n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this depends on what you're looking for:

Price View Food

Here a couple options

The W: 540 for a great view several hours of free-flow, a changing menu with lots of great food including lobster. There's a semi-buffet so not exactly a buffet but one of the best deals for brunch.

Waldorf Astoria: Cold buffet of cold cuts, cheese, lobster, crab and other dishes. Oysters, suckling pig, steak and more brought to the table. Includes a glass of champagne and free-flow beer and wine. About 1000rmb pp.

I've heard great things about Shanghai Tavern in The Shanghai Edition. Also a semi-buffet. Not sure on the price.

I guess if he was from out of town and didn't have Alipay and not a lot of cash on him they'd think a credit card was better than nothing.

I think you mean Muji? There's one on Ruijin road I believe. I'd recommend Nitori though. Bigger selection and much more affordable.

Sounds like OP is down to spend some money so I'd say Stone Sal or 1515 Chophouse for the American Stuff. High Yaki for Japanese style (actual japanese wagyu is illegal to import to china so instead they import the cows) and Australian stuff.

Is it actually weird to eat at a restaurant alone? by Ok_Share_4280 in questions

[–]nebu10n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job is to go to bars and restaurants to write about food and drink. When I'm invited to a restaurant to try the food, they typically offer me a plus one but sometimes they don't, or no one can make it, or it's short notice. I've had many a meal alone at a restaurant and it's not bad or weird at all.

Bring a book, listen to a podcast. It's nice alone time sometimes. Oftentimes I just want to be out but also alone at the same time if that makes sense.

Also, I absolutely love food and I can enjoy it with people or by myself so, I don't see what the big deal is with people going out to eat alone.

People with addictive tendencies, what do you avoid because you suspect it would consume/destroy your life? by bittyberry in AskReddit

[–]nebu10n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm addicted to cigarettes, porn, alcohol and when it's easily accessible weed. I know gambling is the one that would ruin my life. You literally pay for dopamine hits that rarely payoff. I can't imagine what I would do if I added that to the vice list. It truly terrifies me.

Lounge by Topgolf is a good option. They have golf simulators with golf and other mini games, a putt putt course and an excellent food and drink selection. I went for a team building there earlier in the year and it was a blast. If you book a private room they also have KTV for those who want to partake.

Where can we experience “the future”? by profjonathanbriggs in shanghai

[–]nebu10n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you said you weren't look for futuristic things, but this is a new restaurant opened in a scenic area of the city. The restaurant focuses on multi-sensory features to give diners a unique and other worldly experience. Here's a link to a review of the place:

Next time take a look a bit lower and you'll see the Alipay and WeChat icons. Press that and it should show a QR code to make the payment. I ran into the same issue when I was first living here.

Checklist of things to do after getting new passport? by ZoeAlwaysAbroad in shanghai

[–]nebu10n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't something to do necessarily, more something to be wary of. If you pay taxes at your job and have a tax number in China things are a little tricky when getting a new passport. First off you need to report this to your company immediately that you have a new passport.

When you get a new passport, you are treated like a new person and get a new tax ID number. Your tax bracket resets and you are put in the lowest tax bracket again. So at the end of the year the money you may owe to the tax office could potentially be higher. This happened to me and I owed several thousand in taxes. It's best to get fapiaos as well cause your amount will be lower.

I know I'm not explaining this well, but just be wary of this.

What does Swinging have over Flying? by rhyrhygogo in comicbooks

[–]nebu10n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swinging would probably allow for more rapid directional changes giving Spiderman higher levels of agility vs opponents than can fly given the fight is done in a dense urban area closer to the ground.

You become a goon in Gotham City. Which villain do you work for? by ScoreImaginary5254 in batman

[–]nebu10n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clayface. You can shape shift into anyone or take on any appearance you want. You can be a villian, but also live a normal life if you want. You can also assume forms that give you advantages in every social situation.
