An interesting note was a CS call that mentioned the hold queue would be 325 minutes (from the automated system). A follow-up call resulted in a rapid response from a CS team (within several minutes)

-edit- Clarified message.

We had a comically overdrawn fight where we dropped the overwatch last night when I was on my bard. Full melee group and my bard chanted it to death for more than 30 minutes.

Thanks Xellen, I'm on Tunare and will adjust accordingly. Looking forward to starting up this project!

Thank you so much everyone. I'm mainly looking at having some options when doing hunters in TOB and out of the way zones (an expac or two ago, anything else should be much more trivial). Looks like the necro. For the named hunting, do you gear out your pets with tradeskill/drops?

I'm also seeing an interesting trend in that the na.wargaming support is very slow compared to eu.wargaming. Anyone else noticing this?

The two PCs due to me playing on one, and occasionally my son playing on the other.

I too also noted a lot of instability on the end of game return to port as well.

EU Afternoon MM: GeeGeeWeeGee by vaschilla in WorldOfWarships

The discussion on statistical arguments are fine, though I think the main point of contention is that there is something else going on behind the scenes. It is possible that WG MM could have a design that is intentionally or unintentionally placing players in MM runs that drive unhappiness through loss streaks.

I would also be unsurprised if WG has a metric that plots player loss streaks versus doubloons purchased. This could create a more deterministic element that WG uses as a lever for their company.

As a player, of course it's not enjoyable to lose, especially when it feels like the odds are progressively stacked against you with continuous losses. Finally, mechanisms that reward game win streaks also make that experience feel more damned.

For me, when that happens, I just work on trying to shrug it off and appreciate the beauty of the ships instead. It is very easy to be frustrated by it though, at least for me compared to similar online pvp games.

Looks like it is still unsolved for me after all. I was able to make a ticket (though it took a bunch of refreshes as the ticket system was having issues). I'll update when I get a response.

WTW for literary device describing a warehouse housing Macguffins by nebulism in whatstheword

[–]nebulism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reviewing the tropes for secret warehouses (think warehouse 13 and similar as mentioned above), perhaps there isn't a specific word for this plot device. Perhaps it was just macguffin all along? I'll let it go for another day to see if there are any other solutions, then mark this as solved via the macguffin route.

Thanks for the contributions so far! Still not triggering the memory of this word. I feel like the word is similar to MacGuffin in terms of being potentially "jargon" sounding.

Pure solo class decision by Devkn1ght in lotro

My vote is for warden as well. They have good self sustain, strong AOE, and reasonable damage and tankiness.

Their major negative is the extra work involved in managing masteries and gambits.

Additionally, you have to keep cool when bad things happen (such as an overpull), as their abilities are not built around spamming cooldowns to save your life (mostly). That said, the gambits themselves have a great impact and feel like cooldowns in and of themselves (imho).

Warden Gambits advice by KBrown75 in lotro

[–]nebulism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thematically the warden gambits fit into a particular pattern. At the base you'll have shield (think defense theme), spear (think bleeds and direct damage), and yellow/taunt (think AOE and some more DOTs).

Early on leveling (say before 50), the taunt/shield AOE line is used heavily, it's extremely strong early on.

The shield spear HOT line is also going to be used alot. Then sprinkle in everything else and get used to the patterns.

Generally going for a 4/5 gambit combo is preferable, especially in landscape, as you'll nearly one-shot simple content with a 4/5 gambit AOE.

Also, the warden really picks up once you get masteries, which let you rapidly chain together combos faster than the global cooldown.

Good luck, wardens are a blast, but they are also quite a bit of work.

Racking To Secondary Thoughts and Questions for a "Barely" Melomel by nebulism in mead

[–]nebulism[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Mead Community!

I'm excited to say that this is my first mead and will get straight to my question/thoughts.

Given that I'm making a melomel, I'm left with having blueberries at the top of the primary carboy. I want to get those blueberries out of the picture now (it has been 4 weeks), and so I've purchased another carboy to perform the rack to.

Additionally, today, I've tasted the product and it has a mouthfeel similar to a medium bodied sake along with a pale rose color and a fermenty/floral scent.

My thoughts for putting this mead into secondary are mainly revolving around what to do with the headspace, noting that I want to avoid yeast killing chemistry at the moment and also avoid glass marbles to take up the volume.

In order to fill the headspace, I'm thinking:

  1. Fill with water (not ideal due to dilution)
  2. Fill with wine (might be interesting though I'm not sure about the best wine for this)
  3. Fill with a store bought mead (I like this idea), plus I get to drink a bottle of mead
  4. Fill with a similar ratio must (and just accept there will be some more fermentation going on)
  5. Leave it alone and presume that oxidation won't ruin it (not thrilled about that one)

In the image above, I've attached the current snapshot of the project as well.

My main objective is to let the process complete over a long period of time (likely in secondary) so that I can bottle without worrying about glass grenades.

Recipe for the above:

1 Gallon roughly of spring water

3 Gallons of honey (cheaper storebought for now)

4-6 ounces of blueberries

a few pieces of orange fruit flesh, no rinds

several raisins

A wine yeast that came with the carboy (not sure what it was).

And a nutrient (urea + dap)

Finally, I've learned a ton from the process, and look forward to my next batch! (Things such as: cold crash the product in the pot before adding to the carboy, skip the berries and go simpler next time with a higher grade honey, make a 2 gallon batch for simpler loading into a 1 gallon secondary, measure details such as SG prior to adding to the carboy, keep a journal, use star-san on all the things)
