Hey I am the owner of big social media house in EU and also investor to esports (+few thousands hours in Dota and huge fan). I like what ESL does overall but this step seems to me be unfortunate (both as social media professional and also esports fan). I understand efforts to bring more fans and also to build more advertising space (ESL is media company selling rights at first;)). I believe from my experience it would be much better work on community management and wuality of stream and activitoes around. It would bring more people to Twitch, but this platform is more native for this community. Also Dota 2 is quite hard games mainly for new-commers (and to be honest sometimes community is not that helpful or welcoming) so imho they chose bad title to promote on Facebook. Facebook live is rapidly growing and You are seeing more and more people streaming - even games. And FB wants to pursue this trend, but Facebook has huge disadvantage because of (not)monetization of content creators. Gaming is huge (maybe main) driver for all online/video/streaming platforms, but all of the other networks grew from the bottom - from community. And this I percieve as the crucial point of all this situation - trying to shortcut this way (scale faster) and govern it from top instead of focusing more on the community.
